Finally, it’s here. The last song on the Eurovision 2021 playlist has been unveiled. Representing Malta, Destiny will sing “Je Me Casse” in Rotterdam. Excuse her French!
It’s an uptempo song with an instant feel-good factor, and just a hint of 1920’s Charleston.
Destiny — “Je Me Casse” (Malta Eurovision 2021)
For Eurovision 2021, Destiny took inspiration from powerful soul voices like Patti LaBelle. “Je Me Casse” is a French slang phrase, meaning “to make a quick exit” — somewhat similar to the English idiom “French exit”. As well, the French title is a nod to “Lady Marmalade”.
With the Charleston vibe, this genre marks a slight departure for the queen of soul. “Je Me Casse” encompasses various musical twists, from the uptempo electro swing feel to the poppy pre-chorus, which is then followed up with a four-on-the-floor rhythm. An unexpected twist appears in the middle of the song, with a three part section consisting of an a cappella gospel phrase, an empowering soul moment and a hypnotic drop with tonnes of attitude just before Destiny belts the final chorus.
Lyrically, “Je Me Casse” is an ode to female empowerment. It tells the story of a man who tries to get together with a woman, using cliché pickup lines and buying her drinks. But the woman has no interest and is frustrated with the guy’s unwelcomed advances. She is self-assured, and she knows what she wants. And all she wants is to have a good time on the dancefloor. Ladies, if you feel like flaunting tonight, it’s alright! (Eurovision fan theory confirmed!)
Who wrote “Je Me Casse”?
“Je Me Casse” features the songwriting talents of Malin Christin, Amanuel Dermont, Nicklas Eklund and Pete Barringer, with mixing from Jon Hällgren.
Nicklas Eklund is a multi-platinum songwriter and producer, known for working with some of the biggest artists in Asia including Zoom, V6 and Sexy Zone. He’s also had songs in Sweden’s Melodifestivalen — in 2020, he wrote Frida Öhrn’s “We Are One”. Other credits include work with Russian Eurovision superstar Sergey Lazarev.
Pete Barringer also has multi-platinum status. He’s worked on hits for Eurovision stars like Kasia Mos, Martina Barta and Kate Ryan. Amanuel Dermont’s credits include work with Alesha Dixon, Alvaro Estrella and Gromee.
Meanwhile, Malin Christin is a singer-songwriter based in Sweden. She’s worked with big names on the Asian pop scene, and is heavily influenced by pop and RnB music.
And last but not least, Jon Hällgren is known for his songwriting and production talents. At Eurovision 2019, he worked on Luca Hänni’s “She Got Me”, which took Switzerland to fourth place in Tel Aviv.

Destiny at Eurovision 2021
Destiny Chukunyere is one of the biggest stars on Malta’s music scene. In 2015, she won Junior Eurovision with “Not My Soul”, and later went on to compete in the 2017 series of Britain’s Got Talent, reaching the semi-finals. Last year, she won The X Factor Malta and earned the right to represent her country at Eurovision 2020 in Rotterdam. There, she was due to sing “All of My Love” — but sadly, the contest was cancelled just a few days after the song’s release. This year, TVM internally selected Destiny to represent Malta.
At Eurovision, Destiny will perform “Je Me Casse” in the second half of semi-final one.
What do you think of “Je Me Casse”? How will Destiny fair at Eurovision? Let us know in the comments below.
Tu te casses de la première place Arcade 2? Enough depression.
a great voice is lost in this song.
this song is nice but you can not demonstrate how good your voice is.
Agreed. Also, if you look at the male model’s face, he clearly felt uncomfortable being touched.
I usually cringe when I see hashtags.
I usually cringe when I see name puns.
I usually cringe when I see hashtags including name puns.
I totally cringe when I see hashtags including name puns that aim to feed the artist’s ego.
The song is a bop.
Fergie – A Little Party Never Killed Nobody + Jennifer Lopez – Medicine = Destiny – Je Me Casse
Wow. Vocally perfect, musically inspiring and lyrically empowering. Wow.
In light of recent tragedies in the UK, this song couldn’t be more welcomed or appropriate.
Just the kind of song we need as we head into summer and after a year of being locked away
Power to women!
Really hope Malta and Destiny win the trophy this year!!!
I’m finding it difficult to see how this could not win. Great song and amazing singer.
Totally agree!!!! And she’s now joint favourite to win!!!
Well said this is so cringy
I definitely enjoyed “All Of My Love” more than this one, but I hardly believed she could win it last year; This year, YES!!!!! *winner vibes*, even if it’s a copy (that I like)
This will almost definitely win the televoting, but I’m not sure if it can score that high with the juries.
Prediction:
Televoting: 1st/2nd Malta/Cyprus, Top 10 Switzerland
Juries: 1st Switzerland, Top 5 Malta
What I’m sure of, it’s a battle between these two.
I can see this doing well with the televoters but not so much with the jury. It’s not a winner. There are much stronger songs. Switzerland and France are much stronger than this entry. I think Destiny is much better than this song- Malta have missed an opportunity. However, Destiny looks stunning in this video and is a real star!
You said it right!
It’s not a winner, but it is a strong song. Better than Sweden or Norway for example which are generic mediocrity.
Sounds like a potential winner to me.
What a silly comment
She’s so much better than this song.
The perfect participant to deliver a modern song with some strong powerful vocals and we get this Netta cast-off. So disappointed.
Well said
A netta wannabe
which is weird, because netta always emphasized the importance of being you and not try to be someone else.
her song from last year felt MUCH more original and true for her. this is a hot mess.
Congratulations to Destiny for her amazing song, which is at this time in Youtube Trends in France which is very unusal for a Eurovision song/video, especially when it comes from another country.
I dont know why all this hype is for. A normal song performed by a talented artist with great vocals but Eurovision is not x factor or the voice. Also the music video, what is the real message behind it. Malta will never learn from their past mistakes and continue sending songs written by ‘established ‘ composer, but what they do is recycling song that they had submit in past years in other festivals. Like Switzerland and bulgaria, malta is overrated in the odds.
Winner alert! We had to wait until the 39th song to be released to find out the winner. This has the whole package. Destiny is gorgeous, sings fantastic, the song is different and catchy, it conveys a message. What more to ask. Let’s wait for the stage performance but I d place my bet on this song to win! Go Malta!
Winner or no winner, this is rather good!
Am I the only one thinking that this song loans quite a lot from Netta and her concept…? Although, nothing wrong with strong ladies.
As much as I love Destiny I think the song does not do her any justice at all. I try but can’t dig it. A mello-reject or a B-side track. It’s trying to be something it is not, and everything seems too constructed and messy. Lizzo and Medicine put in a shaker to produce something that had it not been Destiny singing it would not even be a topic of discussion. We’re going to have to wait for rehearsals to really get a realistic overview of the songs. Pretty sure there will be a big shake up coming up! right… Read more »
I love the song and i hope she won…everything would be better than the crappy song from switzerland !!
Top 3 : France, Malta, Greece
Switzerland for the win !!!!!!
Enfin une chanson avec du français qui peut l’emporter… ça change ! C’est fun !
Oui enfin « je me casse » c’est de la poésie façon Aya Nakamura…
This is an improvement from last year and Destiny is a force. It could be a top 10 in the final if she delivers (like in the 5-10 range).
There are some good parts but overall, it sounds like a song that wasn’t quite good enough for Melfest. I know Destiny is going to drag something out of this because she’s just that great but her being 2nd in the odds is more about who she is than about the song (same with Bulgaria).
I think Malta are going to look back over these two years of having Destiny in their hands (see what I did there?) and look at it as a lost opportunity. The songs they’ve given her have not really been good enough for her talent.
Love Charleston, don’t get this track at all, sorry.
Call me old fashioned but I don’t think the lyrics are appropriate for an 18 year old. People drooling after the song make me cringe.
ummm she aint a minor no more
Just because she isn’t a minor doesn’t mean she is all grown up and mentally mature (not calling her immature) to sing those hoe lyrics.
Forgot to eat your pudding, grandpa?
Lol resorting to ageist attacks just because I expressed a concern that an 18 year old is being exploited with lyrics (because that is something unheard of in showbizz)
You don’t understand this song at all.
You clearly don’t get sarcasm. I feel sorry for you.
Plenty feel sorry for you
She’s been able to vote since she was sixteen – I think she’s old enough to know if this song is appropriate for her or not.
Yeah I gotta admit that I felt uncomfortable seeing her hug that model..she’s still young..as in ‘Lena – Satellite-young’
I’d prefer her singing this now than what she performed as an interval act in JESC 2016 when she was much younger.
You are absolutely right
I’m glad Destiny has gone for a completely different song. Iceland and Azerbaijan sound like facsimiles of last years entry.
Here is my TOP 39! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdCmfAbuXso
Will check this out! 🙂
Your top is the same as mine
Well my ranking is completely different but our top 2 is exactly the same and I also have Malta in 12th place
Now we wait for the last song by Belarus!
not sure if we really do …
Zena.
Call me bitter and petty, but I am waiting for the news that Belarus has withdrawn from Eurovision. I can’t believe they tried to pull that politicized stunt with that atrocious song. I don’t trust that they aren’t going to try to slip something through again. The only right thing Belarus can do is remove themselves from this year’s Eurovision.
I would love for them to participate just to finish with 0 points. A kick to Lukashenko.
That would be glorious. Granted, you’re not gonna know where they will rank until after your vision is over, but that would be the most worthy Nul points ever. If we get an audience, there’s going to be some Booing.
what if its zena tho… that would be heartbreaking
Okay, my first comment got absolutely buried under the avalanche of the new ones.
I was actually serious. Does anyone know Destiny’s management and get clear on that horn part of the song? It’s from Jennifer Lopez’s Medicine, just a tad modified. And I’ve checked, not the same songwriters or producers. Unless it’s a licence free sample. Because it’s not from any funk classic as JLo loves to base her songs on.
I just don’t want Je Me Casse to be stopped from competing.
Honestly, I can’t see why so much hate for this song??? Eurofans never cease to amaze me
Because there are a lot of eurofans and not everyone of us has the same opinions
This is trying to be something it’s not. Try again next year Malta.
It’s not the strongest song but it is enjoyable and catchy. Her stage presence is absolutely perfect, impressive. I find the hand movements in the chorus quite of “catchy” (if that makes any sense). Overall, the whole package is strong. Definitely top 5-10 material… I don’t know about that 2nd place in the odds though.
I do think that, in general, most of the returning artists have worse songs.
Do you think this will be the closing song of SemiFinal 1?? [good choice to be IMO]
I think the song is really fun and catchy but as a woman i find the lyrics a bit cringy…
this whole comment section is musty and old and hating af. I read comments and ppl were saying bs like this is jury bait, trying to be be liek Macedonia, worst than toy lmao…
The i listened to the song and was blown away, it gave me chills. The song was a 6-7 but her voice and her presence is 10/10. Her vocals, her liveability and that end breakdown when she let rip ooofff.
Efff the old balding 30 yr old+ saddos, this is a winning song, not my favourite bcs Switzerland, but its right behind.
Easily chilled
Turn on your heating
How’s Donald doing? 🙂
We will all lose our hair, grow wrinkles, and turn 30, so perhaps try to have compassion and not make people feel bad for such things, Melania…
I’m bald, I’m 30+ but I’ve never felt more beautiful and confident. 🙂
That’s really heartwarming to hear 🙂
And why everyone be hating on bald men anyway? Have they not seen Tyson Beckford?! OR Patrick Stewart!?!?! HELLO?!
I might look like a dildo from behind but it has its perks.
And I agree. Bald guys need love too.
I might never have anyone running their fingers through my hair, unless it’s on my chest, but Pledge is cheaper than hair products. 😛
It’s just that in this song the man is supposed to be hot. I’m not saying bald men are not hot. That bald man is not hot amd not right for Destiny
Well, he’s not my type either, Candy…but he’s certainly a fine-looking man.
And as Bean says, the man is neither bald nor likely to have been Destiny’s choice, though if it was was her choice then who the hell are we to say she’s picked wrong…
I wouldn’t kick him out of bed. But to be frank, I don’t think I would kick anyone. 😛
What do you mean by “Efff the old balding 30 yr old+saddos?”
Another point to make for you Melania is that Eurovision is a family show for all ages! You aren’t discriminating against people based on their age and sex are you? I believe you will find there are plenty of acts who are in their 30s and over participating in the contest. You should also note that there are those in the jury across different age brackets who will be judging these songs making up 50% of the vote so I believe all performers would want to ensure they are getting support from across all age groups! Your comment is disgusting!… Read more »
Winner alert
So that is all the entries now .. Malta has now moved into second place in betting odds .. who knows what will happen.. think everything will change when the two semi finals take place and we see these entries live . A similar circumstance to what happened in 2014 . Also there being no live audience will impact a lot on the atmosphere of each entry . Don’t see a “bop” doing well under these circumstances
Don’t forget Belarus!
Why are you trolling? You talk about being boring and sad, yet you are trolling?
Yikes. Last year song was so good, This year they come with the wrong one.
‘Toy’ not anymore the worst winning song of Eurovision. I can’t even imagine that.
Give us mercy. Switzerland has to save us.
Amen.
Malta’s not winning, it’s not good for you to worry so much. I can name you a few songs that will definitely finish higher than Malta to calm you down. Switzerland, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, France, Cyprus.
Do you live in the future?
Here is my final Top 39!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTl4V5Pe7B8
After hearing this it could be anyone’s victory on the 22nd of May.. There is no song for me that has the potential to win without creating a mesmerizing stage act. The odds will get a big shake up once the first rehearsals are finished…..
People aren’t mad that sweden sent a black man, people are mad that he won because he’s black. No one has said “Malta send a black woman , how great.” Why are you so toxic, try to be happier.
You’re the racist for treating them differently because of their skin colour because they clearly didn’t have the best songs. Eric, dotter, anton, danny and clara were all better. Also, Russia and Poland are two of the least racist countries in the world, I’m part Korean.
So you know my ethnicity and experiences with those countries more than I myself know them?
Good one there, mate. Majority of Poland is still in medieval ages. I was 23 when I came out and I had to move to a bigger city to avoid the harassment. I eventually moved to UK because I can finally be myself here.
That’s really sad. Hope you are fine and happy now ?
You’re kinda right, people in the fandom really get delusional when their favorite does not win a national final.
I don’t necessarily think that Tusse and The Mamas had the best songs this year, but they are certainly the acts Swedes enjoyed the most and it is not because of their skin, but just because of their songs/vocals/charisma.
For all the haters: Kadiatou is a black singer too. Look at where she placed…
Acts are relying at lot on instrumentals this year.
Nobody has never said that… stop imagining things
You’re not wrong there.
And before people gang up on me, I don’t mean that they are idiots because they have a different opinion, I mean that they are idiots because they don’t respect yours without any constructive feedback. I’ve made that mistake in the past, but I’ve learned.
And then we have trolls which are in abundance on here.
Hopefully that will get limited with time all over the Web when providing a valid ID before registering on any forum, website or app is going to be mandatory according to the rumours circulating online.
I agree. It’s 2021 and people are still judged on the colour of their skin or their sexuality.
I don’t know if you’ve ever seen Micha? Szpak’s X Factor audition. The audience mocked him immediately, judges as well. And once he opened his mouth, they all got slapped back into the reality. It was fun to watch these shallow, narrow-minded bigots getting a kick in the metaphorical balls.
I was quite shocked by the amount of overtly racist comments following Tusse’s win, as well as a large number of implicit dog-whistle comments saying how ridiculous it was for Sweden to be sending him at all, etc — but I was also really heartened to see so many people stand up to it and say no to that sort of behaviour in our community.
He’s a talented artist. It’s not his fault his track is bland. I just hope his future songs won’t be compared to this dud because he’s destined for great things, I believe.
You say you don’t vote based on race, who were your melodifestivalen favourites in 2019, 2020 and this melodifestivalen? I can get 2019 by the way.
I don’t get the hype, I didn’t get Toy either…
Personally I prefer last year’s song to this. But this is a bop! Malta once again comes to slay and play. Game on Semi 1!
No, only last year was a great song, this year comes with the wrong game.
Wow… so this is a lot. The charleston, the french, the vocal gymnastics. It’s obviously a quality product and Destiny elevates everything she touches, but idk, I’m not instantly gripped. The live is probably going to be amazing, no question there.
I will say though, that seeing the video of an empowering feminist song start with the visual of a girl fondling the naked torso of a man who could not look any less interested doesn’t really sit right with me, it reeks of double standard.
I like it, not my winner but she deserves to do well! I’m only curious about what the running order will do for all the up tempo songs in 2nd half of semi 1. You have 5 obvious ones (Azerbaijan, Croatia, Cyprus, Israel and Malta) + the energy of Ukraine, which makes 6 out of 9 in the 2nd half. I don’t know if that makes it easier or harder for Belgium, Norway and Romania to do well. But sure thing is: not all these up tempo songs are gonna make it through. Staging is gonna be SO important here.… Read more »
