Destiny "Je Me Casse" lyrics (Malta Eurovision 2021)

For a long time, Malta’s fate at Eurovision was somewhat unpredictable. The island nation has been left in the semi-finals a fair few times. But now they seem #DestinedForGreatness. This year, Junior Eurovision 2015 champion Destiny is headed to Rotterdam to showcase the finest of Maltese talent. She’ll sing “Je Me Casse” at Eurovision 2021.

Scroll down for “Je Me Casse” lyrics.

Malta Eurovision 2021: Destiny — “Je Me Casse”

At just 18-years-old, Destiny Chukunyere is already a household name in Malta. In 2015, she brought the country its second Junior Eurovision victory, when she won the contest in Bulgaria with her song “Not My Soul”. Later, Destiny went on to compete in the 2017 series of Britain’s Got Talent, where she reached the semi-finals.

She returned to the Eurovision scene in 2019. In Tel Aviv, she provided backing vocal’s for Malta’s Michela on “Chameleon”. Then in 2020, ready to take the spotlight for herself, she competed in The X Factor Malta, eventually winning the show and earning the right to sing for Malta at Eurovision. Before the contest’s cancellation, she was set to sing “All of My Love” — which quickly became a fan favourite. And although she never got her chance to bring the soul-pop anthem to the Rotterdam stage, TVM weren’t ready to let her go — she was soon announced to have been internally selected to represent Malta again at Eurovision 2021.

What do the “Je Me Casse” lyrics mean?

The song gets its title from French slang. “Je me casse” — literally meaning “I break” — is a French saying used when making a hasty exit, similar to “I gotta go” or “I’m outta here”.

The “Je Me Casse” lyrics contain themes of feminism and female empowerment. It tells the story of a man who tries to get together with a woman, using cliché pickup lines and buying her drinks. But the woman has no interest and is frustrated with the guy’s un-welcomed advances. She is self-assured, and she knows what she wants. And all she wants is to have a good time on the dance floor.

“This song is dedicated to those women out there who in some way or another are feeling sidelined”, Destiny says. “We can do it on our own, and we really can make great things happen when we believe in ourselves and get to work!”

Je Me Casse lyrics — Destiny (Malta Eurovision 2021)

Written and composed by: Amanuel Dermont, Malin Christin, Nicklas Eklund and Pete Barringer

Babe are you hurting
Are you alright
You look like an angel that fell from the sky
And boy you keep talking massaging my ego
With your unoriginal pick-up lines (Hell no what you gonna do)

Hell no, I am not your honey
Hell no, I don’t want your money
Got it wrong I ain’t into dummies
Nuh-uh-uh-uh

So baby, it’s not a maybe
Yeah I’m too good to be true
But there’s nothing in it for you
So if I show some skin
Doesn’t mean I’m giving in
Not your baby
Je me casse

Je me casse
If you don’t get it
Je me casse
Je me casse
I’m not your baby

Boy why you putting that drink in my hand
Think if I’m drunk then I’ll give you a chance
Boy, you keep buying and complying so stop trying
Not gonna give it up ain’t changing my plans (Hell no what you gonna do)

Hell no, I am not your honey
Hell no, I don’t want your money
Got it wrong I ain’t into dummies
Nuh-uh-uh-uh

So baby, it’s not a maybe
Yeah I’m too good to be true
But there’s nothing in it for you
So if I show some skin
Doesn’t mean I’m giving in
Not your baby
Je me casse

Je me casse
If you don’t get it
Je me casse
Je, je, je me casse
If you don’t get it

Ladies, if you feel like flaunting tonight it’s alright, it’s alright
(Ladies) Ladies
(Listen to me) Listen and go right ahead
Show you’re shining bright

If you don’t get it
If you, if you don’t get it (Je me casse)
If you don’t get it
If you, if you
Excuse my French

Baby, it’s not a maybe
Yeah I’m too good to be true
But there’s nothing in it for you
So if I show some skin
Doesn’t mean I’m giving in
Not your baby
Je me casse

Je, je, je me casse
I’m not your baby

Pretty bland and generic Europop song, could’ve been sung by anyone from any country. Not what you want at Eurovision.

she has a really great voice. but the song is a single chaos of different styles and almost completely without a common thread. Nevertheless, it will do well with the jury. I don’t think so much about televote

Amazing singer, with a so so song, and with a horrible lyrics (whoever wrote them has ZERO creativity and innovation. Not being able to create something new that deserves to win – that didn’t win before, will put this amazing singer out of the battle for the victory). I guess she won’t make any revamp, and even if she do, she’ll probably stay with these bad lyrics that we have heard million times (both the lyrics and the idea behind it), so, unfortunately for Destiny, 100% out of the battle for the victory

Malta is amazing this year. So catchy. I love electro swing and “Je Me Casse” is just a perfect example of it! Would not mind if this song goes on and win it all!

Love Destiny and she’d be a really deserving winner, but personally the song doesn’t do a lot for me. More power to her though.

Sadly I am not connecting with this at all, a bit like Malta 2013. Fingers crossed we will be back to Maltasong next year with 20 or so entries mostly written by locals.

Why is everyone hating on Destiny? I do not get it. Is it because she’s the bookies favorite at the moment? This can all change tomorrow!! She is an 18 year old girl, living her dream and trying to pass on an empowering message to women and everyone for that matter (while keeping it age appropriate – remember she is 18 years old). You do you and having yourself is enough. A women (and a man) do not need neither a man nor a woman for that matter. Having a shirtless man for 20 seconds of the music video means… Read more »

Destiny is a victim of circumstance and feminist narrative, she could have said no to the whole thing but went along anyways. Whoever wrote the song and made the music video had very clear intentions. The topless man is portrayed as reverse objectification of women, and in a rather negative light, while the general idea of the song is weak and bland and like another commenter mentioned trying to hyperbolize refusing a drink to a substantial feminist battle but falls short. The energy should have been different, playful and energetic but comes off as aggressive and narcistic. That put a… Read more »

Is the shirtless man the barman from Vasil’s 2020 video? As I recall his shirt was floating down a river in one of Vasil’s later videos.

What is wrong with offering a drink to someone? I would take it as a compliment and I would choose to accept it or not based on the situation. It is just a way of approaching someone that you find interesting. But, taking something this basic and turning it into a pseudomovement just doesn’t feel right. Feminism is not about glorifying being alone, it is not about stripping a man in your video when you fight hard for the female counterpart to stop being sexualised.

I understand where you’re coming from but in this case I think you need to look at this in context and as an “unwanted advance”. Some people can be agressive about getting to know someone and slow take a hint. Or even understand an outright rejection aka being creepy and predatory. I took the reference as that.

I feel sorry for her, too. But at the same time she knew where she was going into. Majority of Russians would never accept a foreigner singing about them. Plus her ethnicity plays a role. If she was British or Italian or something like that, people more or less would accept her performance. She is Tajik, and Russians treat middle Asians, also caucasians, as a lower or underclass. So her middle Asian ethnicity doubled the irritation.

I’m sorry but what is your point exactly??! You can only name Netta’s song when it comes to women empowerment. There are severaaaaal songs on heartbreaks, love and peace. I’m not complaining as all of that is needed BUT what is the matter with having another song on women empowerments. It is critically needed even just by looking at some of this year’s entries!!!

Except this song delivers exactly the same energy as Netta’s, that’s why people think of her first. We’ve had strong female songs, 2008 Ani Lorak – Shady Lady, 2015 Georgia Nina Sublatti – Warrior. What about Latvia and Azerbaijan this and last year?? Do they mean nothing to you?

Switzerland is Arcade 2.0, that’s not shocking at all. A lot of songs get inspired somewhere, Cyprus got inspired by Lady Gaga and Rita Ora. It’s less about direct copy to copy or melody but more about general impression, the whole package. Destiny has exactly that. A hypothetical battle and aggression aimed towards “stupid boys and men”. And let’s be honest, she looks like Netta’s sister, no offence.

‘I’m not your baby’. ‘I’m not your toy’. Slightly scattered and disjointed song structure. Similar attitude and style in the vocals. Common lyrical theme. Similar climax.

Maybe the problem lies deeper; however, the song shows just the obvious problem. It may start with a man who’s certain he can ‘buy the woman’ and he won’t give up because that’s what he wants, he might not even realise he’s harassing the woman with his behaviour. Imagine some women experiencing the same behaviour multiple times from numerous men, and it goes on and on. They cannot enjoy their time in peace because every time they are seen as some kind of a prey. If they’re alone, with no partner, other guys will just try to ‘win’ them by… Read more »

Actually, Felix Sandman had a male empowerment song in Melfest 2020. The difference is that because of inequality, men and women have been wronged in different ways. If you want to empower women, you tell them they are strong, independent and not only as worthy as her looks are, because those are the things that patriarchy has been denying to women. On the other hand, men have often been denied the opportunity to display emotions and be seen as kind, nice and harmless. It’s the dichotomy between helpless, weak and incapable, but pure women vs big, strong and smart, but… Read more »

Lol ok so just because 4 words are common in both songs, then it’s a copy? Wow a lot of copied songs in the music industry.

Also, how many eurovision winners sang about love and/or peace? I’ll wait.

Just find the theme rather lame and not innovative . And it’s ok for the song as it is but not for the winner.

Destiny is wasted on this song. She is way better than the song they gave her this year. “All of My Love” could have won last year. That legitimate hype last year is what’s keeping the fire alive in Malta this year. Okay, it is a feminist song, even more so than Latvia, which is just a try hard attempt at feminism. Destiny actually delivers the feminism in a legit and powerful way, and I respect her for that. She has a massive career ahead of her, whatever happens in May. But this song, I just can’t connect with it… Read more »

the song should deliver a positive message but instead it plays aggressively on the female empowerment movement which puts a lot of people off. Latvia’s energy is different than Malta’s. the main difference is charisma

when will y’all understand that just because a song has a feminist message doesn’t make it toy. same has how just because a song has falsetto doesn’t make it arcade, and a song sung by a woman with an ethnic drop doesn’t make it fuego. get some ears people

Destiny looks a bit like Netta, can’t help it, she just does.
in Switzerland’s case falsetto has nothing to do with it, it’s more of how the song is structured and melodic movement, the chorus even has some similarities.
also, we do have ears, and it’s easy to tell these entries were to the very least inspired by previous years.
