Two weeks ago Måneskin won Sanremo 2021 and accepted Italy’s ticket to Eurovision 2021. Now the Italian rock band has released their second album, Teatro d’ira – Vol. I. They have also seen their winning Sanremo single “Zitti e buoni” enter the Billboard Global Chart.
The album has just eight tracks — but as the name suggests, this is only volume one of a larger work. Teatro d’ira opens with the group’s in-your-face Sanremo winning track “Zitti e buoni”. It’s the full version, not the Eurovision edit.
There are two English tracks on the album amid the Italian. “I Wanna Be Your Slave” is an exploration of the many facets of sex and sexuality. Lead singer Damiano sings “I wanna be your slave / I wanna be your master / I wanna make your heart beat / Run like rollercoasters” — and the ride just gets wilder.

The other English track, “For You Love” is a declaration of unbridled sexual desire. We’re going to quote the nice lyric “I wanna hold you in my arms tonight” because that’s about as tame as it gets.
Another album highlight is the rock ballad “Coraline”. It tells the story of Coraline who is “taking the pain of others / and then taking it inside her”. The band deliver the emotion of the song, with the melody having a Mediterranean echo.
The album closes with “Vent’anni” (“Twenty years”). In this thoughtful track, the group explore their own youth and face their fears as they contemplate their future. Damiano sings, “And I’m already asking forgiveness for the mistakes I’ve made / But the road is harder when you’re aiming for the sky”
All up, it’s a solid effort from Måneskin, showing off the depths and breadth of their talents as they get ready to take their rock to Eurovision and the world.
Måneskin and Sanremo acts make the Billboard Global Chart
The impact of Sanremo is being felt on a global scale. Måneskin and three other Sanremo acts have made the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Chart — the first time Italian language songs have made the chart.
The Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Chart is based on overall streams and download sales of singles, and focuses on all territories outside the United States.
At No.100 in the chart is Sanremo runners-up Francesca Michielin and Fedez with “Chiamami Per Nome”. Måneskin follow closely behind at No.106 with their Sanremo winning song “Zitti e buoni”. At No.120 is Colapesce and Mimartino‘s “Musica Leggerissima”. Madame rounds out the Italian quattro with her song “Voce” at No.146.
What do you think of Måneskin’s new album? Will more Eurovision acts end up in the Billboard Global Chart? Tell us your thoughts below!
I don’t know how much value/credibility Billboard still have left… Last year a Chinese singer/actor released a song that entered on Guinness World Records as the most sold single in 24 hours ever, and the most sold single of all times Globally few months after release, surpassing Ed Sheeran with Shape of You by a long shot. But Billboard never featured him in any of their charts because, meh Chinese.
I’m wondering how much did Sony paid to have them featured on the chart after only so little streams.
Envy all over the Place
Im soooo rooting for them! #ROME2022
This is an accomplished rock album with strong diversity, I really enjoy it. Having two songs in English was interesting, I hadn’t realized how smutty the lyrics are (perhaps they are the same in Italian?). I like smutty, it somehow makes the emotion more raw and genuine than what you often get in a Eurovision sphere. I couldn’t tell if the pseudo-cockney accent in I Wanna Be Your Slave was deliberate or not? It is actually quite realistic and I suppose it is them paying homage to their own idols and influencers? Overall, a very accomplished set of songs, and… Read more »
No, the smutty lyrics are only for the English songs… probably the same sentences in Italian for Italian listeners would have sounded incredibly strange and too direct, but in English, they just sound edgy. LOL
Wow! This album is gold! Definitely worth listening to. I absolutely love LA PAURA DEL BUIO, ZITTI E BUONI, CORALINE, I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE and FOR YOU LOVE.
I’m so happy i discovered this band thanks to Eurovision!
ESC 2021 WINNER !
Zitti e buoni is still my favorite, but I also loved Vent’anni and La paura del buio
Where are the people that say Sanremo entries are trash this year? Show thyself.
Italy isn’t good this year, just yelling.
Overrated.
I loved every single song and can’t decide which is my favorite
Maneskin are the first ones of this year ESC to be in Billboard chart even before the contest! I’m so proud of them! This album is pure art!
Seems like in 2019, Italy will be again the most globally commercially successful entry
OMG.. I love I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE
I loved the album! Coraline is definitely my favourite song ^^
Only someone from a Catholic country would do a song like In Nome del Padre.
No complains, I love the song. It’s just gives me the Catholic School Rebel Hymn vibe.
I went to a Catholic School, I know how they work.
Lmao they’re not even catholic, and the song has no religious meaning whatsoever. Moreover italy sure has vatican city in it but the number of atheists is increasing a lot, especially with the younger generation, or at worst most people will say: “i believe but i don’t go to church” which is a translation to: “my parents grew me to be christian but going to church is annoying and i don’t even care about christianity in general cause it’s boring”. Italy is a catholic place, i agree, but only for 40+ people. Having the pope in italy is also quite… Read more »
Correct. I’m Italian, I’m an atheist, my husband and my daughter are also atheists. Most of the atheists though are on the north side of the country.
Wait, but are all members of Maneskin atheists? Cause for example Damiano and Vica wear crosses…
with 11.1 million streams and 3.5k digital sales, we should say ! yes italy yes global <3
I read somewhere that Måneskin will feature in a song by The Struts and tour with them. The great thing about Italy is that they always offer us solid musical projects, with bright future. This is their strength and why they always end up so sigh. I believe this band can have an international exposure, that’s why I consider their chances of winning Eurovision concrete.
