Some artists just can’t stay away from Eurovision. And this time, the number of returning artists is higher than ever. Following the cancellation of last year’s contest, many acts from the class of 2020 are coming back for another shot at Eurovision glory.

Eurovision 2021 features a record-breaking 26 returning acts. Most of these acts were internally selected by their respective broadcasters as a moral decision after the happenings of 2020. But some artists had to fight their way back through a national selection process: Lithuania’s The Roop and Estonia’s Uku Suviste.

Meanwhile, for some artists this year marks their third Eurovision appearance: Senhit for San Marino, Natalia Gordienko for Moldova, and 2016 soloist Sanja Vučić as part of Serbia’s Hurricane.

And now, it’s over to you. We want to know which is your favourite Eurovision 2021 entry from a returning artist. There’s a massive 26 artists to choose from, so remind yourself of their songs and then vote in our poll below!

Scroll down to vote in our poll.

Improved: Greece, San marino (most improved), Ireland, Australia, czech rep.

Got worse: Lithuania (sad about this cause I loved on fire), UK, Iceland (also sad about this), Spain, Austria, North macedonia

Same level: switzerland (my 1st last year and 1st this year), Malta, Romania, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan (love it this year too), Ukraine (love it this year too), Serbia, Belgium, Moldova, Latvia, Israel, The netherlands, Slovenia, Estonia, Georgia

Seeing how 2020 was cancelled I dont think those should count as returning artists. Since they never performed…

I have another interesting question – which potential returnee from national selections (who wasn’t a part of a 2020 group, but earlier) had the best song?

  • Nina Kraljic (Croatia)
  • Tony Cetinski (Croatia)
  • Mike Trapp (Denmark)
  • Juri Pootsmann (Estonia)
  • Koit Toome (Estonia)
  • Tanja (Estonia)
  • Ivo Linna (Estonia)
  • Laura Poldvere (Finland)
  • Ermal Meta (Italy)
  • Francesca Michielin (Italy)
  • Vilija Matacuinaite (Lithuania)
  • KEiiNO (Norway)
  • Ketil Stokkan (Norway)
  • Eric Saade (Sweden)
  • Charlotte Perrelli (Sweden)
  • Jessica Andersson (Sweden)
  • Arvingarna (Sweden)

KEiiNO were absolutely amazing and Monuments was epic, but I think Spirit in the Sky had the whole package.

I don’t know why you guys are such haters. You only talk about Greece and that Stefania shares the poll with her fans, which doesn’t mean that all the votes are from Greek people. Also, I made some research myself, and I found out that other participants of esc shared the poll asking for votes. Think about it.

Improved: San Marino, Czech Rep., UK, Belgium, Spain, Greece, Estonia, Slovenia, Moldova
Did not improve: Iceland, Lithuania, Israel, Serbia, Latvia, Georgia, Austria, Ireland, N. Macedonia
About the same level: Bulgaria, Netherlands, Azerbaijan, Malta, Australia, Ukraine, Switzerland, Romania

These are my personal opinions though. They’re all pretty even.

Ireland’s near the bottom of my ranking. I just find it really boring, sorry. I think Spain improved because Universo felt manufactured but at least voy a quedarme sounds like he put slightly more heart into it. Birth of a new age is a beautiful song with a deep message, a lot of Europeans just find it too “non-European” to appreciate (and I could use a much more blunt term than that).

Overall, I’d say I only prefer the following 2021 entries (compared to 2020): San Marino, Ireland, Moldova and Australia.
Many countries are pretty much the same for me: Switzerland, Lithuania, Romania, Bulgaria, UK, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Serbia, Czech Republic, Latvia, Slovenia.
The rest are pretty much indifferent to me.
So far as my girl Stefania is concerned, I haven’t really made up my mind yet. So I’ll leave Greece out.

Stefania hasn’t uploaded a story yet. She’s fifth in the poll after Switzerland, Malta, San Marino and Lithuania.
In my personal opinion, from those four countries the real upgrade is San Marino (Switzerland in my top 3 both in 2020 & 2021. Malta would be in my top 7 in 2020, but in top 12 this year and Lithuania top 3 in 2020, but top 6 in 2021)

Although I don’t feel good comparing the returning artists song, I feel like it’s ultimately inevitable:
Biggest improvements/growers: Romania (tho I did like Alcohol You), San Marino, Belgium and Estonia
Biggest disappointments/flops: Austria, North Macedonia, Spain, Israel

Crystal

I picked the songs I liked out of this year’s selection, no comparing to last year, in no particular order: Latvia, Lithuania, Iceland, Switzerland, San Marino, Serbia, Ukraine, and Malta. Latvia’s kind of a has a Baltic Beyoncé vibe to it, but it’s not a copy of Beyoncé’s sound…just inspired by her. Lithuania’s is just fun and should make for a fun performance. I think the music video threw off a lot of people on Iceland, but they won’t have nearly as many people on stage for the Contest. If I were Daði, I would probably work in a moment… Read more »

I think that the biggest improvements are: Moldova (29th in 2020 but 4th in 2021) and UK (38th in 2020 but 14th in 2021)

The biggest disappointments are: Austria (13th in 2020 but 34th in 2021) and Israel (but it may change due to the revamp) (7th in 2020 but 20th in 2021)

My personal opinion: (alphabetical order)

Upgrades: Azerbaijan, Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Ireland, Lithuania, Moldova, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, United Kingdom

Downgrades: Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Georgia, Iceland, Israel, Latvia, Malta, North Macedonia, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Ukraine

Btw, in some cases, there are no major differences, such as in the case of Azerbaijan, Greece, Lithuania, Serbia.. it’s just that I (slightly) prefer their 2021 entries or the other way around: Downgrades concerning the 2021 acts does not also necessarily mean that I don’t like their songs. It’s just again that I (slightly) prefer their entries from last year.

Switzerland, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Romania are for two years in a row in my top 10. Lithuania, my last year’s 11th, almost certainly enters top 10 this time around. The only other returning singer who was in my top 10 last year is Jeangu, whose new song I really like, especially lyric-wise, but am still assessing whether he’ll go as high as top 10 this time around. On the other hand, three returning acts who weren’t in my top 10 last year and will likely achieve that this year are Czech Republic, Belgium and Spain. I would call Blas and… Read more »

I’ll follow your lead on this one. Lithuania, Romania, Switzerland and Ukraine kept their places in my top 10 (also Italy, but with a new act). Bulgaria, Iceland, the Netherlands also still can keep their top 10 spots (so far, I only separated the entries in groups). Belgium lost a place in my top 10, but the new song is growing on me, they’ll still do well. Australia was my 11th last year and will get a similar position, but if Montaigne nails the live vocals, she’ll probably be in the post-contest top 10. Israel was my 12th (when the… Read more »

So far, I am far from over myself and I am enjoying the process of slowly building-up my list. The only thing I already did is I playlisted some songs I know will be on my very top. There are several of those which aren’t already there, but whose potential I see with further discovery. Some of my other remarks: Azerbaijan was, and is, a guilty pleasure. But I don’t know if Mata Hari can reach the greatness of Cleopatra’s ”so bad it’s good” status. I am still warming-up to Iceland. It’s certainly a good song, but if he finishes… Read more »

We’re in the same page about Iceland, Malta, Israel, Serbia and Estonia. I actually think Uku’s entry is considerably better this time, but it won’t help doing much better in my ranking, because I agree it’s still middle of the road. I prefer Slovenia’s “Amen”, because I feel both are aiming at the juries and Ana does a much better vocal job that Vincent. But both are between my least favorite entries, like it happened last year (though I agree that “Voda” soundes much much more genuine). Azerbaijan is an interesting case: “Cleopatra” had more charisma, but maybe “Mata Hari”… Read more »

People are used to express hate and what they dislike in the comment section of Wiwibloggs articles. But at the end of day, they don’t represent the general opinion of the readers here. Australia-upgrade but still a terrible song. Why didn’t they change artist? Austria-different style but same quality. Not a big fan tbh. Azerbaijan-absolutely love this ethnic bop! I’d even say it’s better than cleopatra! Belgium-I like it but I don’t love it. Same as release me. Bulgaria-this carries such an emotional and relatable message. it’s accompanied with a truly brilliant hook which makes it a winner contender. Same quality as tgs. Czech-its better than kemama but it’s still very average and would definitely not qualify in a good Eurovision. Estonia-same quality as his last effort. I like it more than most… Read more »

Just to tell you some things: Macedonia is a region in Northern Greece, the country that you are talking to is North Macedonia I see you complaining countries for sending back the same artists, while all countries should return with their artists because the competition never happened and they didn’t have the chance to represent their countries, something that was vital for some singers. Many of them might have even been depressed when they realised that they couldn’t represent their countries, so that statement from you is very disrespectful to the artists first of all, so please don’t even try… Read more »
