Go_A have gone live! On March 16 the group delivered a live performance of their Eurovision 2021 song “SHUM” on the Ukraina TV channel.
Even without the dramatic visuals of their video — snow, jeep, fire, Chernobyl — Ukraine’s ESC act still managed to captivate. Lead singer Katya wore an all-black outfit, including knee-high boots, a tight top and a matching leather jacket with metallic embellishments. Despite only having a mic stand and some large earrings at her disposal, she still managed to serve “deity of the forest” fantasy with attention-grabbing shoulder movements and piercing eye contact.
Her bandmates added to the atmosphere, working guitar, recorder, keyboard and computer to great effect as a clip of their video played in the background. Vocally this was as on-point as ever.

Go_A’s “HALLO, Євробачення!” vlog
Separately, Ukrainian broadcaster UA:PBC has launched a series of vlogs under the title “HALLO, Євробачення!” (HALLO, Eurovision!) on its digital platforms. They’re meant to bring viewers closer to the group as they prepare for their big moment in Rotterdam.
Here’s what vlog host Anna Tulieva has to say:
“We started the vlogs ‘HALLO, Eurovision!’ to reveal more about the preparation of the Ukrainian participant for this year’s Song Contest. The viewers can expect a separate story of each member of the band. We have lots to show as each of Go_A members has a unique story that is worth knowing.”
The first episode covers the music video shoot, taking you behind the scenes as they bring spring to life. We hear from the band members and also the video’s director Maksym Tuzhylin.
In the second episode, front woman Kateryna Pavlenko invites you to her home for some lentil soup. Among other things, she discusses her childhood dreams and how she discovered music.
The series has English subtitles and new episodes will drop on Wednesdays on the UA:PB YouTube channel, as well as on Instagram and Facebook.

Love it! One of my favourites this year. I was worried about the revamp because I love the original version and I had it on repeat. But I got used to this version pretty quickly and I love it, too! But can we take a moment to admire Katerina’s beauty? I love her look! She’s inspiring me to cut my hair short!

I just realized how beautiful Katya is, and it hit me like thunder. They should style just like this.
Wonderful! Go_A bring something really special and unique with their style of electro-folk. I love how their sound has both an ethereal, ancient quality, and a modern, punkish, industrial tone—and that the softer and harsher tones come from both directions, rather than a cliche of soft flute and hard guitar. There’s a depth to the musicality of the song, and all its sounds, that’s just perfect for storytelling and I hope that translates to an epic stage performance and production. It’s Ukraine’s first entry completely in Ukrainian, and one of Ukraine’s best entries.
Incredible live vocals from Katerina and the synchronization of the whole band. It’s such a special, powerful song and they certainly get my vote in the semi! Ukraine is one of my winners this year!
One of my winners too! Top 3 for me last year, Top 5 this year. Part of the special power of the song for me is the vividness and vibrancy, it’s like a painting. There’s something otherworldly about Shum, which they make into dystopia in both of the music videos. I loved Solovey last year, still listen to it, Shum is good too, I liked it more before the re-write but the new version is still good. I hope they qualify but something tells me this might actually be the shock NQ of the night. I hope I’m wrong though.
I’m worried it will be like Telemóveis – completely unappreciated by juries and televote because of how different it is.

I had Telemoveis as a potential winner, I was shocked when it didn’t get through.
Go_A gives me the same feels.
telemoveis was my personal winner and shum is up there this year, really hope we won’t be disappointed
I have the same fear that you guys have (and the same high level appreciation for both “Shum” and “Telemóveis”). My hope is that Ukraine uses their usual staging skills to make this more a Hatari than a Conan situation.
I may be proved completely wrong but I think Shum has a lot more accessibility than Telemoveis. The trance-esque nature of Shum will prove very popular with a more mainstream crowd. I always appreciated the artist value of Telemoveis but I always felt that the song and the presentation was more avant-garde in nature. Shum is a more straightforward dance track with ethnic elements, which rather than being obtuse I think will actually attract votes from certain parts of Europe. But of course I could be cataclysmically wrong!
Which would be a shame.
“Telemóveis” was indeed more avant-garde, it was even hard to categorize it in any genre, it mixed a lot of different influences to the point it sounded Portuguese, African, Middle-Eastern and Eastern Asian at the same time (Conan brain should be studied!). “Shum” on the other hand has folk elements, but with a clear foot in electronic music, which maybe will make it more palatable to a wider audience. Can’t be shock NQ since odds give them NQ for the moment. I wished they would bring back the two lovely back-singers from last year NF that would add real value and not that post-echo awful mix like in this pseudo-live.

She just has outstanding vocals and charisma.
Live according to new eurovision rules. meeeeh. Eurovision is dead. Technology killed real live singing. We can have now winners that would have been a total mess with real live.
I’m pretty sure these rules are temporary and were created because of the pandemic. They are supposed to help out those artists who can’t bring backing vocalists with them, and whatnot.

If you think that I’m questioning her ability to sing then you are very wrong. But you can compare your video with the one linked in the article and see that the latter is definitely not live.
nope, singing in a studio is way easier than singing on stage. Expecially with the audio issues ukraine tends to have.
