He’s enjoyed continued success since winning Eurovision 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel. “Arcade”, has gone on to chart in no less than ten countries (reaching #1 in his Dutch homeland, where it has been certified four-times platinum, #29 in the UK, and even reaching #45 in an unlikely place like Canada, where it was certified gold). Now, Duncan Laurence will get the chance to grow his fandom on the far side of the Atlantic.
Duncan Laurence to perform on the TODAY show
Taking to Twitter, Duncan revealed that he has been given an amazing opportunity. He is slated to appear on the third hour of the US’s ever-popular (and #1 ranked) morning show, the TODAY Show, on Wednesday 24 March. “WHAAAAA! My first USA tv!”, he wrote.

Duncan’s appearance on the TODAY Show was surely spurred on by the sudden success of “Arcade” on various US music charts. In the second half of 2020, “Arcade” became a viral hit on the social media platform TikTok. This has resulted in the song reaching #15 on Billboard’s US Adult Contemporary chart, #27 on the Adult Top 40 chart, and #1 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart. The song has also spent six weeks climbing the Billboard Global 200 chart, reaching a peak (so far) of #49 last week, and still hovering at #50 this week. This new exposure will hopefully result in it climbing even higher!
In a follow-up tweet on their own Twitter account, Duncan’s record company, Capitol Records announced that he will perform his ESC 2019 winning song “Arcade” . While it doesn’t look like he will perform any of his other singles, or any songs from his first album, Small Town Boy, appearing on the USA’s #1 rated morning talk show could mean a big boost to his career. Duncan follows in the footsteps of Eurovision 2018 champ Netta, who also performed on the hit US show.

We say “Gefeliciteerd (Congratulations), Duncan!” and are confident and hopeful he’ll continue to grow his fan base around the world!
Are you excited for Duncan’s performance on American TV? Do you hope this helps more people hear his music and help his stardom continue to rise?
So proud of him! Best winner in a really long time!
I love Arcade, but still can’t believe it became a worldwide hit only due to going viral on TikTok. lol
Didn’t the same happen with “Old Town Road”?
Well, Americans love trashy things. ?????
Wow Arcade right now is more famous rather than in 2019. Especially, if Duncan had the new version in 2019 Eurovision I’m sure that he could surpass Salvador’s record
Performing on that morning show will not make your career take off. It takes more than that, such as staying in the US to record and promote your music. Netta did perform there but her career did not take off and Toy did not have any impact on charts. Even after going viral on TikTok, Toy didn’t have chart success. Arcade is rising on US radio (n15 on Adult Contemporary radio chart) which is HUGE for a Eurovision song. I think he has a lot of potential, his music is really good and radio-friendly. Arcade has universal appeal, the lyrics… Read more »
I really think it cannot be said that Eurovision isn’t commercially relevant anymore. In fact, ironically the last year, even though there was no contest, has been the biggest for a long time. Eurovision is in the mainstream which is great!
I am glad he’s getting some late, deserved attention. A great Eurovision winning entry ended up rather overlooked post-ESC.
It does seem like the runner-ups always tend to get more attention than the winning song. It also happens in X Factor and other contests, I wonder why that is
I agree, for 2 years in a row the runner-ups become hits bigger than the actual winners.
I’ll never understand how Soldi and Fuego did not win the televoting as they clearly had the potential (very good live performances and good slots in the final). Their success after the contest really proves their potential.
Tbh, Fuego as a song is nothing wow. Eleni Foureira has many many more better songs, some going high in charts, others being really underrated.
What made Fuego a fan favourite in the crowd in Lisbon (even though again Netta’s song was loved more by the viewers, that’s why she won the televote) was the STAGING. Eleni was the best performer in Eurovision, she might have also been one of the top 5 performers (if not the best) in the whole decade. Otherwise, that would easily reach a position equal to Tamta’s at best
Even better is that he’s #32 on the spotify worldwide chart
And 250 million Spotify streams for the “regular” version alone.
He’s chart on Billboard charts as well and peaked at n45 in Canadian Hot 100 chart (also certified Gold). This is BIG for a Eurovision song.
this furry chest is hot as hell
Duncan deserves it, he is a great artist.
Also, something off topic: If it means that Duncan is allowed to travel to the USA, does that mean Flo Rida is allowed to travel to Rotterdam in May?
It could be a pretaped performance.
Okay, so I can confirm that Duncan is still in the Netherlands AT THIS TIME as he was just fresh of from a live online interview with a popular music channel here in the Philippines just moments ago. So we might be in for a taped or a live from NL performance on Today.
Its a televised performance live from The Netherlands. They’ve featured KPOP artists live from South Korea in the last.
@Charli Cheer Up and @James, thanks for letting me know.
That’s the least watched hour of the show. So, I don’t think it’ll make any difference here in the States. Americans are just not into Eurovision that much.
The third tends to be their more lighter hour in terms of segments so it makes sense to have him slotted there.
As an American, I know the song has blown up on Tik Tok and lots of teens and others will know the song
they know the song, but not Eurovision.
That wasn’t my point tho, they aren’t showing the whole of Eurovision on the TODAY show, just Duncan and his song.
Americans don’t know much about Eurovision so they can’t be into it if they are not aware of its existence. Yes, there was some coverage due to the Netflix movie but most people actually didn’t get that Eurovision is an existing contest.
