Back in January, Eden Alene was the second Eurovision 2021 to have her song revealed. But now the Israeli singer is getting a revamp of her song “Set Me Free” and a new music video ahead of her Rotterdam appearance.
After much speculation, broadcaster KAN confirmed the revamp and video shoot with a Facebook post. They wrote:
“Now it’s official. Next week an improved version of the Israeli song will be released, and with a new clip being filmed today. In the meantime, here’s a glimpse.”
Watch the “Set Me Free” video shoot at the KAN Eurovision Facebook page.
The video shows Eden in the midst of shooting the new music video for “Set Me Free”. The video is set in a classical courtyard, filmed at night. The scene is set with lanterns, pillars and park benches — and the ground is wet, giving everything a moody glow.
Eden is seen slowly stepping towards the camera in time with the music. She’s followed by a posse of backing dancers who are moving in time with the music as well. The video’s director can be heard instructing, “Energy, everyone! Hands up!”
But as well as a new music video, the song sounds different. From the short excerpt heard in the music video, it seems that the song has a darker, more bass-heavy sound. The lighter funky tone of the original version has been revamped into a version that contrasts with Eden’s sweet vocal tones.
Eden Alene’s Eurovision journey
Eden originally won the 2020 edition of the singing contest The Next Star for Eurovision. Her song for Eurovision 2020 was decided through another show, The Next Song for Eurovision. This resulted in “Feker libi” being selected, which would have been her entry for Eurovision 2020.
After the 2020 edition of the song contest was cancelled, Eden received the return ticket to represent Israel in Rotterdam. Her song for 2021 was selected via Our Song for Eurovision 2021, where the public voted for songs based on their video clips.
“Set Me Free” won the vote, however Israeli Eurovision site Euromix later reported that the song would be revamped. At the time they wrote that “The decision was made at the request of the composers in light of the heavy criticism that was heard about the song.”
The revamped version of “Set Me Free” is expected to be released by the end of the month.
They should have given Eden a whole other new song, shes so talented!
Heard it. The arrangement is now less funky and more on the R&B and synth-pop side. Most of the song doesn’t sound too different from the old version. Biggest changes are to the “Oh, oh, oh” part which is now less annoying, and the last chorus which was dropped for Eden’s vocal gymnastics. She’s giving some Mariah Carey-esque shrieks, that sound to me very hard to pull off live. Eden is a very strong vocalist though so it is possible she can pull it off, and if she does it’s bound to wow and impress and earn her quite a few points. However… Read more »
It’s official, song reveal is set for tomorrow morning

we have to wait for tomorrow 26/3
Eden teased her Instagram followers with a few seconds from the new video.
Despite the change in the lyrics it doesn’t sound all that different, so I’m guessing it’s not a drastic revamp.

It is drastic, the styling change is very drastic for sure, finally eden at her best, i believe the coming clip will stop the fact that she is underrated right now, she is one of the best singers in the contest, go eden
The term ‘revamp’ refers to the song itself, i.e.melody, arrangement etc. Styling has nothing to do with it.
From those few seconds Eden revealed it doesn’t sount like a drastic transformation, but my guess is as good as anyone’s. Drastic or mild, good or bad – we’ll find out in a few days.
If it feels different and gives you different vibe it is different enough. Production can ruin a good song. The song is good, it was produced not good enough due to time constraint
That are good news indeed. Hopefully they pull out a “Made of Stars”-revamp. It was sad to see that with every new song that got released the support for “Set me free” seemed to sink. I hope that this will change with the new version. Eden deserves it.
They revamped the revamp? That’s funny, as it’s a weak song anyway and Israel will place low this year. It may not even qualify, as the 1st semi is a strong one, almost like a final. We shall see…
I don’t see so many strong songs this year, so everything can happen…people talked about a strong first semi-final even before the songs were released…
It seems really disingenuous to drastically change a song the people chose. Might’ve as well selected it internally…
I hope the Revamp will be good because Eden deserves better than Set Me Free.
I loooove this song so I hope they did not change it too much.
But I am a bit sad. I thought Eurovision was about artists coming to share one of their songs with the rest of Europe and bringing people together.
Not about writing 9 songs, selecting 1 based on public’s votes and revamping it before the contest without any artistic purpose but because the odds are not good.
Quite interesting to see what they can actually do with this in terms of revamp. I don’t think it’s a good song but they have a really good performer. How much can they actually change at this point? Was this always intended or was it a reaction to the standard set by other semi finalists?
It was a reaction towards the hate that set me free received
Israel knows how to do revamp so I’m excited like 2019 and 2016 are examples of really good revamps so I think that it will help along with Eden is amazing live so listening the studio version I fell like I’m only getting part of the song so I’m excited good luck the eden and Israel
I already like the original song so I don’t really know what to expect. Hopefully it will be better.
The trouble with probably at least half of the demos were the lyrics, including ‘set me free’. Not only are the lyrics empty, but the song just doesn’t feel like Eden’s.
That’s not saying we needed another ethno-pop banger, but something that feels more genuine.
I don’t think the revamp can save this, but hopefully I’m surprised.
Where are nycforever, heyok, nils, jay, dia and petitionforroxen? The people on this site with common sense. Jimmy and joe are respectful but have weird opinions. Everyone else is a bit crazy lol. Someone literally said eden is better than Ariana Grande.
Just saying you are being toxic as well since you don’t have to call people out for disagreeing with you
Well, someone must bring vinegear to you because you became really toxic, just like Sodium Hydroxide
I think that following common sense you are the disrespectful one here L O L
Amen! I was rooting for ‘La La Love’ initially, I thought it was the best song of the Israeli selection. Hope the revamp version of ‘Set Me Free’ will really be better than the original one. ‘Cause, personally, this latter didn’t stand a chance of qualifying in the semi 1.
Didn’t stand a chance? That’s ridiculous. It wasn’t a guarantee to qualify for sure but it was one of 5 songs that was equally in the running to qualify.
That semi is filled with much better female bangers. This DESPERATELY needed revamping.
I precisely wrote PERSONALLY. That’s what I think and feel, that’s not a fact. And a lot of people are thinking the same.
You could have wrote personally you did not think it should qualify. But you wrote a prediction that it had no chance to qualify. Those are two different things.
Get it. Then… I think that Israel shoudn’t qualify with the original version of ‘Set Me Free’.
Well, I can confirm that only Malta, Lithuania, Sweden and Cyprus, maybe also Russia are guaranteed qualifiers. The others will have a close race, just like in 2018
It is true that the chances of NQ were really high for Eden, but I feel that they can be a shocking qualifier, especially if the revamp improves the song
This so-called revamp is going to be a repeat of Israel’s 2001 entry ‘Ein Davar’ where the original slow rhythmic and moody song was upgraded to an ethnic dance pop number with a faster beat and additional string and brass instruments, but this was nothing more than putting lipstick on a pig because it didn’t address the unsuitability and non-competitive nature of the song to begin with. The original ‘sin’ here is that SMF was written in 3 days and that’s all you need to know about its fate. It’s mind-boggling that KAN would go ahead with a revamp at… Read more »
Bitter much?
Unfortunate comparison for Israel using a pig as example.
Take a chill pill.
I love Eden! Her 2020 NF songs were better! But I think 2021 they didn’t have a lot of time from demo to NF version. But I have every faith this new version will have Eden written all over it!!! It will be almost a totally different song!
Haha this wouldn’t qualify even with Ariana Grande making the revamp! The thing that kan should be focusing on is to get Anna Zak to agree to go to Eurovision.
I’m sick and tired of your negative reaction constantly
It’s the truth though. This Eurovision and 2020 Eurovision are just poor compared to 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019. I think they’re the worst in quality since 2006. Eden’s song is horrendous and messy. I just have high standards for this contest because I love it so much 🙂 . Also, I think I was quite positive by giving advice to kan. They should get Anna Zak so that they can win again.
i’m intrigued, what kind of music you actually like? maybe you should focus on something non Eurovision related if your in the wrong comment section and website, I totally disagree with your assumption that the quality this year is poor, there are always ups and downs, and this year is a great year because its the first year in a long time one can do a work out on a treadmill ! with so many up beat songs. Europe and beyond wants to get up and dance, be happy and appreciate good music.
As for Eden and Set Me Free it’s underrated, I love it, vocals in parts reminds me of Ofra Haza.
They don’t need to replace Eden, she’s wonderful.
If you don’t like Tusse, Jeangu, Eden, The Mamas, Destiny, Benny, and Senhit, stop commenting on posts about them.
I like senhit, tusse, benny and malta. I just think there were better options, that they’re overrated and wouldn’t qualify at a good Eurovision. I’m just saying that we need to get back on track and selecting Anna Zak for Eurovision 22 would be a huge boost.
Hahahaha
Eden Alene is a much better artist and singer than Ariana Grande
You are joking right? I mean, one is a grammy winning billboard topping artist whilst the other one is what? Ariana’s voice…sorry I just can’t wrap my head around what you just said. That actually has to be the worst take I’ve heard in a while. Just to make sure, you are joking, tell me you’re joking. Are you sane? I’m waffling. Woah. Cray.
Since you are the expert, which are the 10 countries that will qualify in SF1?
The qualifiers will probably be Croatia, Lithuania, Malta, Sweden, Cyprus, Azerbaijan, Romania, Norway, Russia and another country. If more people had taste it’d be Cyprus, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Romania, Norway, Ireland, Macedonia, Belgium, Russia some other nation.
You’re entitled to your opinion definitely but you also have to respect the opinion of others. If “people had more taste”….. seriously? You have every right to be negative but you don’t have to spread your negative thoughts and get us all involved in it, the name of your account just also shows how toxic you are. Spread love, not hate <3
Your list of qualifiers is half wrong. Your prediction will not age well.
well do better then sherlock. i really could be mocking you for thinking that israel can qualify, but i’m nice.
As long as he is disrespectful towards a lot of us, who never spread negativity, his prediction actually makes sense, he is not influenced by personal taste and before rehearsal there are like 11 countries who have most chances to qualify, the 9 he listed are among them.
