Which Vasil Eurovision song is your favourite?

Following the cancellation of Eurovision last year, the majority of the class of 2020 received the comeback ticket to sing again at Eurovision 2021. A massive 26 artists will return to represent their countries at Eurovision 2021. But as per the standard Eurovision rules, they’ve all got new songs.

Thus, comparisons to their previous entries are inevitable. So, we want to hear from our readers. We’re running a series of polls to ask — do you prefer the returning artists’ 2020 or 2021 songs?

Today, we’re shining a light on North Macedonia. In 2020, Vasil was set to take “You” to Rotterdam. This year, he’ll be singing “Here I Stand” at Eurovision 2021. But which song is your favourite? Vote in our poll now!

Scroll down to vote in our poll.

“You” (North Macedonia 2020)

After participating as a backing singer at Eurovision 2019, Vasil was internally selected to be centre stage as the main singer for the contest in 2020. His entry to represent North Macedonia was the tango-infused song “You”, in which he declared his desire to dance with the person he’d fallen for.

The Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — awarded “You” an average score of 5.65/10. In her review of the song, wiwiblogger Lucy commented:

“This is my biggest guilty pleasure of the year. […] This is sultry and exciting — Vasil’s vocals are smooth like caramel. His moves in the music video could have indicated similar staging, now that the delegation has learned how to put a performance on. I wouldn’t have it penned as a qualifier, but a sexy addition to the soundtrack nonetheless.”

“Here I Stand” (North Macedonia 2021)

Vasil returns to Eurovision in 2021 with “Here I Stand”. It’s an orchestral ballad that builds throughout its three minutes. For the climax, Vasil is joined by backing vocals that were recorded in Chicago by former members of the acclaimed Chicago Children’s Choir. Vasil himself is an alum of the choir and has worked with them many times since.

The song was inspired by the singer’s sadness following the cancellation of Eurovision 2020.

Poll battle — North Macedonia: Which Vasil entry do you prefer?

In this poll, you can only vote for one song — so choose wisely. And as always, you can only vote once. Let the battle commence!

I like “You” better however “Here I stand” is better for his voice

The Eurovision press always hypes nearly everyone – it is their job but they are far from the severe over-hype level of some past songs in past years. Of course, in 6 weeks that will have changed and there will be songs that have been completely ruined forever (at least me) but Vasil won’t be the act they do that with.

“Here I Stand” is a better fit for his voice and personal style. “You” was more accessible to the masses. I like 2021 better, He is much more authentic to himself and it shows.

For me ,The first entry “You” is a very beautiful song and his voice is a miracle and specially by this song he could win the Eurovision 2021

You was Okay I guess, and had some staging potential. Here I stand is dull, annoying and unpleasant. I love North Macedonia at Eurovision, I always find myself rooting for them but this ain’t it :///

Here I stand is a musical theatre masterpiece. And if I take the contest as one of varied genres and styles then this an epic song. Vasil comes across as someone with a heart and excited to perform on the Eurovision stage… and what a voice. This is my Sunday morning song, with a croissant and coffee, and if I get to open the window and stand with the breeze in my face while staring across the pavement as the sun rises then …. perfect for this song.

Both are different yet none hits the mark!
I am not saying they are awful but just forgetable and not competative at all.
I would give slight advance to Here I Stand cause of the possible grand staging and amazing vocal delivery but that’s not gonna be enough to get him to the final specially knowing there is also Ana Soklic with the amazing voice and better song as well as Destiny!

Exactly my thought when I saw the running order.

‘You’, as a song, is completely forgettable for me, the only thing I remember is the music video. ‘Here I Stand’ is at memorable, because of the over-the-top Broadway style and intense music video—I like to think of it more as an extended comedy sketch, and from this POV I enjoy it very much.

Since NM jury victory I guess there’s a lot of pressure for Tamara’s successor and in this case it’s sad that Vasil obviously couldn’t fullfil the expectations the fandom had and will probably tie in with the pre-2019 results of NM. Even if his 2021 song sounds more like him, I only get Omar Naber “On my way”-feelings and expect a similar result. I wish him best of luck either way, he seems like a gentle person.

Song-wise they did very good jobs since 2017 but we all know how it went down (especially because of the staging). I’m rather waiting for 2022 since their 2012 song was awesome and the placement decent. Hope never dies. 🙂

I guess that’s subjective but you can’t deny that Vasil hasn’t a lack of passion.
