Barbara Pravi recounts her trip to the newsagents

Barbara Pravi was the focus of a special feature in the Friday edition of France’s Libération newspaper. And while subscribers to the publication can read the article here, it’s Barbara’s trip to pick up a copy in the newsagents that’s made us smile. “I ran and bought Libération this morning, frantically opened it before I even paid”, she writes on Instagram. “And seeing the photo the kiosk kindly said, “Hey, is that you?”. I blushed like a tomato and gave him a big smile because on top of that I had a really funny face this morning with my mask and my big scrunchie in my hair”. She continues, “I finished reading in the subway and admit that I held back my tears… How lucky I am. It is full of joy, strength and tenderness. I don’t know if it looks like me because I don’t have the necessary perspective and then a little modesty too, but it seems that yes, it looks like me, since my little sister cried, and a friend of mine too”. And sales of the paper will most likely be up today — “I have already received messages from my mother in all our whatsapp groups asking the whole family to buy her 3 / 4 copies”.

The Black Mamba sing “Fuego”

The Black Mamba went live on the official Eurovision Instagram on Thursday night to treat fans to a live set for almost one hour. They performed much of their repertoire, including “Love Is On My Side”. But they also dropped a couple of treats for Eurovision fans. In amongst their usual songs, they gave covers of Eleni Foureira’s “Fuego”. You can hear at about 24 minutes in.

Senhit and Rafał perform together

Yesterday, we reported that San Marino’s Senhit had jetted into Warsaw to sing with Poland’s own Rafał. We won’t see their performances on Jaka to Melodia until mid-May. However, behind-the-scenes footage of them performing “The Ride”, “Waterloo” and “Adrenalina” are already available to watch.

Senhit releases “Adrenalina” tutorial

And Senhit is making sure that we’re not idle while we wait for her Polish performances to hit TV. The singer has released a TikTok dance tutorial for “Adrenalina”. The official San Marino Eurovision account writes: “Wanna learn all the #ADRENALINA dance moves in time for @Eurovision? Here’s all you need to smash it!”.

Jeangu Macrooy performs in an empty concert hall

The Netherlands’ Jeangu Macrooy performed a set for the weekly Empty Concertgebouw Sessions. Accompanied by Patrick Rugebregt on piano, he played a short acoustic set in the Main Hall of the iconic Amsterdam venue. He closes with his Eurovision 2020 effort “Grow”.

TIX’s MGP win nominated for TV moment of the year

TIX’s victory over KEiiNO at Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix 2021 will live long in the memory of many Eurovision fans. And now it’s been recognised by TV industry experts. The “Fallen Angel” hitmakers win is nominated for “TV Moment of The Year” at the annual Gullruten awards — Norway’s answer to the Emmys. The country’s Head Of Delegation Stig Karlsen marked the occasion on Twitter, congratulating all those involved with the MGP production as well as other nominees.

Hurricane to perform “LOCO LOCO” on Saturday

Serbia’s Hurricane won Beovizija 2020 with a barnstorming live performance of “Hasta La Vista”. However, we’ve yet to witness their 2021 effort live. That’s set to change, as the three ladies will appear on Serbian TV to perform “LOCO LOCO” and some other songs on RTS’s Studio on Saturday night. Croatia’s 2012 singer Nina Badrich is set to appear on the same show.

Daði Freyr covers “Arcade”

Iceland’s Daði Freyr shared on YouTube a cover of Duncan Laurence’s Eurovision 2019 winning track “Arcade”. The Gagnamagnið frontman’s version sees a shift in genre to include more electronic elements the Icelandic star is known for. He also showed off his vocal range — from deep bass notes in the verses to powerful soaring high notes at the chorus. (Oliver A)

The moves and choreo of the Polish guy! Was that a joke or he really meant it? Somehow reminds me of Poland 2018 Gromee cringe dancing…

Really enjoyed Dadi’s cover—it was taking me back to early Coldplay.

Black Mamba’s song isn’t one of my favourites this year but the guys seem really nice and a lot of fun…it seems very unlikely that Portugal will qualify but after watching their takeover, I really do hope they enjoy their Eurovision experience.

Black mamba sounds great!

Rafal from Poland on the other hand doing a cringe dance at 1.18, I really hope for them it’s not their ESC staging … it’s like an uncle “trying” to be cool

I don’t like TIX’s song at all, but he seems like such a genuinely good person, which I like a lot. It’s nice to see.

The Black Mamba might be a quite likely qualifier, they do know how to perform well. It’s very authentic!
