Malta’s Destiny released “Je me casse” — her song for Eurovision 2021 — on 15 March, shooting up the betting table and laying claim to her status as a Eurovision front-runner.  And now, one month later, she has performed the symphonic version of the song in front of the stunning Fort St. Elmo in Valletta.

“This was one of the greatest experiences in my Eurovision Song Contest journey so far,” she says in a statement. “The fact that I got to work closely with the iconic Malta Philharmonic Orchestra is in itself a great achievement but creating such a rendition and giving me and everyone a different side to ‘Je Me Casse’ gives me goosebumps. I hope people will enjoy this version as much as I enjoyed working on it.”

Destiny performs the symphonic version of ”Je Me Casse”

The acoustic performance of “Je Me Casse” takes place in a very special setting. Destiny performs at Fort St. Elmo, a historic bastion in Malta’s capital. Once a defence to hold back attacks from the Ottomans, it now offers unobstructed views of the glorious harbour and surrounding towns. It’s also home to the National War Museum.

During the performance, Destiny is accompanied by The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. Its musicians wear masks and maintain social distance as the 18-year-old singer stands tall and proud. She wears a gorgeous dress that looks like it belongs on stage at the world’s great opera houses. It also seems to honour Malta with its gorgeous shade of red.

However, the setting isn’t the only thing that draws your attention. Destiny, who is currently number 1 among bookmakers, presents an impeccable version of her Eurovision song. Destiny is known for her powerful voice and her ability to hit those notes flawlessly. She more than lives up to expectations. The performance conveys Destiny’s message of empowerment and, as with the original, she brings just as much soul and power.

In a recent interview with Wiwibloggs, Destiny said she fell in love with ”Je Me Casse” at first listen. “I started believing in the song from day one. I was like, ‘I need to have this song.’ It literally describes me as a person, everything about me, it fits perfectly to Destiny,” she said. “If there’s true love in music, I fell in love once again.”

Destiny isn’t letting the pressure of the bookies get to her. In fact, the buzz inspires her to give it her all. “These things keep me going. Knowing that I have a nation supporting me and waiting for the day to arrive, I can’t wait to perform,” Destiny explained. “The positive reactions are helping me to work harder and deliver the best performance ever.”

What do you think of the symphonic version of ”Je Me Casse”? Let us know in the comment section down below!

Nice arrangement. Great vocals. but the style of song doesn’t fit with the orchestra. sorry

Also very interesting: to make the acoustic version appealing they had to put this overproduction of string… it still amazes me how such a banal song is having all this clout… on her vocal strength and technique are indeed superb, but zero on real emotion

Loving her work. I was not a fan of Junior Eurovision but this year i have seen her really connect the music to who she is. Im loving this version as it shows just how amazing she is and im loving her entry this year and the change of style and energy and knowing the song is in capable hands of a charismatic, talented and enthusiastic proffesional.

When I wrote my original post I wasn’t referring to you, it was very general. You took it personally and replied like I wrote it specifically at you. The comments ranged from perhaps legitimate criticism to the song or the singer, to how fat she is, how old she looks, how she’s buying her 4 million views on YouTube, and that Wiwibloggs writers are somehow giving her coverage favouritism. If you can’t see the vitriol you’re obviously blind to it.

The comment you’ve quoted was a comment on her styling team who are doing a bad job . It said they dress her like a 50 yr old. It’s not a comment on her. Its a comment on the dress. I found that funny.

Well, she can certainly sing. But to have this particular song in an orchestral setting is a bit ridiculous, it doesn’t have the emotional weight to be performed like this. On top of that, her stage presence seems a bit cold: more technique than feeling. I think she will be a jury favourite that gets killed in the televote.

Delusion, convince yourself.

Is that a fantasy of yours ? Cause I can tell you now that no, you’re not living rent free in my tiny little mind. There’s no place place there for you and you -12 brain cells. I just have enough place for my favourite Eurovision acts that I’m imagining getting great scores in Rotterdam. I can’t wait for living that fantasy lol

Why isn’t it live? Anyway.. it’s a good version but i prefer the original one! Also, even if malta is my #4 i am starting getting a little bit tired of it and i have the feeling that the middle part of the song is really boring and makes you feel like you are listening to it for so long.. so i hope they have a good staging cause i love destiny and i want her to do well!

I’m not crazy about that version — never been fan of orchestra versions — but Destiny is still slaying it.

Great views of Valletta and what a voice! I really don’t like the song though, would love to see Malta and Destiny win but with a song that’s not so manufactured. If the American tv channels who produce the Holiday Xmas movies could write a Eurovision song, this would be it.

It’s disgusting to see the ESC official Youtube channel doing promotion of a particular song. I doubt they will show us every other countries song symphonic versions.
Do it but on the TVM channel
And it’s not even a live version. It’s a studio version, there isn’t even any microphones near the instruments. FAKE.Outdoor live can’t sound like this.

They(The ESC youtube channel) did publish all other countries’ other versions too- Albania , Azerbaijan , France and Portugal.

You can read about these versions on the “Daily Digest ” Articles on wiwibloggs cause they didn’t deserve a standalone Article on wiwibloggs.

They shouldn’t for any country. The ESC youtube channel should be neutral and only feature the officials video clips or NF performances.
And the worst is that I am pretty sure that some countries are paying the EBU to promote their song that way on the official channel.

People here also have to understand that this is also a blog and not a professionnal news website. Every author is free to write their own articles on the subjects they want to deal with. If I’m not wrong, only William is a professionnal journalist. But that doesn’t mean he has to be neutral here, Wiwibloggs is a blog where everyone can express their opinion and show their support on songs, and that includes the Wiwiteam in charge of writing articles. If you want neutral articles posted by ‘unbiased’ journalists so much, just go read the ones of the official… Read more »

You can be neutral and objective. Ireland is my 2nd favourite song.

All 4 singers had more points from juries than televote. And sometimes to open final is privilege not disadvantage .
Amber semi final 84 points from juries, only 32 with televote
Ira final 137 from juries only 16 from televote
Claudia semi final, 55 with juries , 0 points from televote
Christabelle semi final 93 points with juries , only 8 from televote
Michaella final 87 points from juries , only 20 points from televote

Wiwibloggs gets articles by people who use their free time, if there would be something about everything every artist does, there would be like 3 pages of news every single day. Also everyone has life to live, I doubt anyone Robyn, William, Esma, Padraig etc. can just throw everything in their personal life away just to write articles. Give them a break!

I didn’t ask for each of those to also get a separate article. I asked for this to not be treated specially. I asked for this to be clubbed Under the daily digest just like all other countries’ versions were.

Since the writers have to do this “FREE”lance , they need not make a special article for just one country. Try to Treat all equally.

You can ask that question directly to Padraig since he’s in charge of the Daily Digest. And also to Esma since she’s the one to have written that article.

The video was released after he published the Daily Digest article. Maybe Esma wanted to publish this article cause she was interested in this subject and wanted to deal with it before an other wiwiblogger ? Just an assumption. No offense here.

We can only ask her the reasons she had for publishing this article in particular, while its subject could have indeed been clubbed with others.

This will 100% win the jury vote, and I dont care what fans of France and Gjon say or how much are going to downvote this.
How can someone have such a strong staging presence and such a good vocal technique at 18, amazing.
And the song couldnt be more jury friendly, clean, with swing elements, nice message. I just cant see any way in which Malta wont be #1 in the jury voting.
I suspect Destiny wont top the televote, but her televote score is not going to be low either.
At this point, its Maltas to lose.

Juries backing up Malta would be going from Sweden to Sweden 2.0, it’s a good song but all in all the swedish involment makes this just a bought out thing.
Swedes know what they do and they do it well, but if you can’t beat them with your own thing is this the way to go, to just buy everything from Sweden to get some success? I’d prefer more Maltese involment from Malta, even if it wouldn’t reach those hights Sweden gets.

The last entries Malta sent that were “made in Malta” were Claudia Faniello 2017, Amber 2015 and Firelight 2014. Only Firelight made it to the final and ended up bottom of the scoreboard anyway. Yes Christabelle in 2018 had a foreign production and she still did not manage to reach the final but that entry was a mess to begin with. While Malta can produce a lot of great singers I believe we are light years backwards when it comes to production of songs. PBS did a public call for songwriters this year – if the submissions were not up… Read more »

I can see your point and you’re not wrong, but if Destiny wins, is it really a victory for Malta or for Sweden’s music industry? Probably both, but still Destiny had an amazing entry for JESC 2015 and if I remember it was 100% made in Malta, so there is talent to be found! Anyway, it’s a good entry to go by and a possible contender for the win, stage shows really seem to be the big possibility to any entry this year so I wouldn’t call anyone a winner yet.

Fabulous. What’s great about this piece is that Destiny has the vocals to match an orchestra, which seems to elevate what she can do with the song here. She looks fierce and radiant. There’s a winking, sassy Bond-like quality to the performance. I think I might prefer this version, and could more easily see her winning if she performed Je Me Casse like this in May, but I think it’s more of a statement of intention. Whatever arrangement the song has, Destiny will Dami it up and slay the house down with a winning powerhouse vocal.
