Twerking in slo mo. That’s how Serbia’s official RTS Eurovision Twitter account has described Hurricane’s acoustic performance of “Loco Loco”.

Yes, you heard that right. The talented trio of Sanja Vučić, Ivana Nikolić and Ksenija Knežević have performed their Eurovision 2021 banger in a more mellow, unplugged form during a Saturday night special on Serbian television. It was a chance to show off their live vocal and to build on what we first heard on the Ami G show last month.

Hurricane perform acoustic version of “Loco Loco”

The performance opens with a close-up of a guitar before cutting to Sanja, Ivana and Ksenija sitting on stools on an elevated platform. The disco balls from the music video still abound — a large one overhead, a few scattered behind their chairs. But gone are the crimped locks and over-the-top outfits. In their place we see women dressed for the boardroom, ready to balance their power and their poise in finely tailored suits.

Musically, they’ve turned down the electro barnstorming and instead draw on the glory of live instruments — including violin and drums. And while this is most definitely pared back, it actually overflows with sensuality. The focus on the voice draws out their inner fire — a reality written most clearly across Ivana’s face as she serves steely looks and pure passion. Our girl is feeling every note.

The women of Hurricane will be thrilled to generate discussion about their vocals. During our recent interview on Zoom, they told me that it’s sometimes irritating when people focus on the way they move or the clothes they wear rather than the music they make. After all, at the end of the day they are singers first. The ability to slay a runway is just a bonus.

The trio also performed a cover of Ruslana’s Eurovision winner “Wild Dances”, which you can watch below.

What do you think? Are you loving Hurricane in acoustic? Do you prefer the original or this? Let us know in the comments box down below.

This isn’t live . You can see and hear that the voices are pre- recorded/ playback. No hate but this is just disappointing. No serious artists doing this to sell it as acoustic live.

I’m a little bit disappointed. I expected a live version. This is an acoustic version, but the vocals aren’t live. Same goes for the Wild dances cover.

Oh my gosh, if this is considered good, their fans probably think all that botched surgery makes them pretty… They couldn’t find a serious performer in an entire country?

What makes you unhappy? I hope you have some friends who can help you out in these difficult times. There is no need for leaving comments that discriminate people only because of the way they look. It is sad that individuals equate physical appearance with talent.

Who said anything about their looks?? They’re free to do whatever they please with their appearance, has nothing to do with the song

I love this song. More importantly i bet most people who dislike it have the opinion Hurricane can’t sing live. Well girls you just proved them wrong. well done.

Mmm…much more interesting. Actually in this version there is not even one single trashy thing.

This rendition is better than the original. And the song is really catchy already

And here you see how the acoustic version let you know the actual song behind the profusion of beats: This song is really really bad…

It’ll be a challenge to perform the ESC version whilst dancing and making it sound accesible. In their NF performance of Hasta la vista , the accessibility for the non speakers was missing cause it sounded noisy.

As you’ve written, it was last year during the National Final. They have mentioned in their interview for the Eurovision Hub that back then they did not work on “singing while dancing” part and that they did have enough stamina. However, this year they work on that aspect of their performance very carefully. Hopefully it’s gonna be great in May.

I’m sad to say that I don’t find this act very believable. Having seen the English translation of the lyrics, I just don’t believe that any of these performers really want to go “Loco Loco” and as such I really struggle to connect with this song.

They are excellent performers, I just don’t feel that the song fits them. As with a few others this year, I feel like I am being sold something that is not genuine.

From all the slow versions for bops we’ve seen recently, this is the one that does a better service showcasing things that are hidden in the original.

I really liked this version. Didn’t really expect it to work, but it did!

People are sleeping on this but Hurricane absolutely have top 10 potential. If they can sing like this while giving a powerful stage show with choreo, things will go well.

Love this version!

Also, where are those who criticised Malta and Destiny for advantageous promotion. Why aren’t you also commenting here? Other countries are getting the same exposure and rightly so, but don’t spread false rumours or hate towards other countries 🙂

This is the exact reason I called them out for bias. If I didn’t call it out it was possible this would get clubbed under the “Daily Digest “.

So thankyou @Kate for acknowledging that our words made a difference. You should have also acknowledged that Azerbaijan , Portugal , France and Albania released before Malta didn’t get an article and the one released after calling out the bias did and hopefully all released now will get an equal treatment.

And thankyou to for listening to the comments and taking the appropriate action.

What ? William is praised but Esma was called ‘biased’ for her article about Malta ? Hmmm… I’m sorry Kris but I can’t help but thinking about double standard here.

I also want to precise that Esma’s article about the orchestra version of ‘Je Me Casse’ was the first she’s ever written about the song, Destiny and Malta — I checked up all her articles.

https://wiwibloggs.com/author/esmajansen/

So, the fact that people were calling her ‘biased’ towards Destiny and calling what she was doing as ‘biased coverage’ was totally unfair. People owe that author an apology.

I never called Esma biased. I called wiwibloggs biased. It was you who were putting the questions on her ! William is appreciated not for writing the article but for acting on equality and paying heed to what seemed like clear bias and acting to remove the bias. You either are younger than I assume or just to make a point you’re chosing to ignore the fact that all articles that appear on the blog are the effort of an entire team who approves the content , who decides who gets to write what and the writer itself. So it’s… Read more »

I checked up your comments on that article, and yeah, I admit it, I’m wrong actually — something difficult for you to write when you’re wrong yourself, boy proud I guess. But it felt like you were coming at Esma’s work. You’ve written ‘ I’m dazzled by how blatantly obvious bias in coverage is being shown !!’ on an article specifically written by Esma. You also wrote ‘I miss unbiased coverage’ on that same article, still written by Esma. https://wiwibloggs.com/2021/04/16/watch-destiny-wows-with-symphonic-version-of-je-me-casse-alongside-the-malta-philharmonic-orchestra/264351/#comment-1159027 It feels like you were targeting and criticizing at Esma’s work since you’ve written those comments under her articles. Did… Read more »

Excuse me if you could have felt like I was questioning your work @Esma. But you can actually read on your article that it’s not what I think. I’ve never written ‘biased coverage’ or ‘obvious bias in coverage’ under your article.

Here’s my last reply to you. You’re just an hypocrite to me now.

And since you’ve finally “got’ what you want after criticizing the work of Wiwi authors for weeks without excusing yourself for your words at least once, just be silent until the contest now.

Don’t expect me to read or reply to you, I won’t anymore.

I’m done with you now.

This seems perfect to me. To me, their sound and look are beamed straight out of Russian/Ukrainian girl groups of the early 2000s (ViaGra, Fabrika, Blestyaschie, etc.). And I actually think this may work to their advantage in picking up some votes from these countries.
