Fans of Greek mythology were given a special treat during Stefania‘s Eurovision 2021 music video for “Last Dance”. In one of the most memorable moments of the video, Greece’s star jumps off a building and onto a black Pegasus. Later, she encounters Atlas with the world in his hands. Now, despite rumours swirling in Dutch media and beyond, Stefania has confirmed to Wiwibloggs that her stage show will NOT feature a winged horse, created from the blood of Medusa, or the Titan condemned to hold up the heavens.

Greece’s Stefania confirms there will not be a Pegasus in Eurovision 2021 staging

Stefania spoke with me on Tuesday from ERT studios in Athens, where she’s currently rehearsing with her dancers.

The 18-year-old — who is this year’s youngest contestant — has a clear perspective on “Last Dance” and its meaning. “If something ends, something new starts,” she says. “There is never an end. If you have a bad dream you can make it your own fantasy. It’s what you see in the video….I turn my dream into one of my best dreams ever.” And in that dream we see the teen star jump off a building before landing on her Pegasus. The director had her film it several times to get it just right: “Kostas said, ‘Sweetie you have to jump and you have to make it beautiful — the jump of your dreams!”

Among other things, Stefania says she can’t choose between her two Eurovision entries, which she describes as her “dream songs”. She loves the ethnic vibe of “Superg!rl”, and the “80s vibes” and “Dua Lipa style” of “Last Dance”.

Stefania also adores the songwriter behind them — Dimitris Kontopoulos. “He has a lot of ideas — every time we are in the studio he has an idea….He really knows me as a person, so that’s making it really easy to work with each other.” Apparently he also helps her with her Greek.

And what of stage director Fokas Evangelinos? “He inspires me…he is a really open person,” she says, noting that he’s encouraging her to make the most of her Eurovision moment.

Stefania also discusses her excitement and surprise over the betting odds, her stage outfit from noted designer Vrettos Vrettakos (“It’s like a dream outfit for me”), her Dutch-Greek identity and her love of Greece.

“They are so kind, so open,” she says of the people she’s met. “The vibe here is so nice….maybe I will live here. I am obsessed with Greece, I am obsessed with Athens!”

At times she has to pinch herself to believe it’s all real. “I have a career in Greece,” she says. “This was my dream. Last night I was crying because this is my dream. People in Greece know me.”

Are you loving her warm vibe and infectious laugh as much as we are? What do you hope to see on the Eurovision stage? Let us know in the comments box down below!

Thanks God for not having a Pegasus or Atlas. I am Greek, seeing a Pegasus/Atlas in music video ( with great visual effects) was really cool but not suitable for Eurovision. Probably it would seem as cheap as “swimming Demy” in 2017, so better without Pegasus or Atlas. I can’t imagine what Fokas Evagelinos has prepared but I hope it will be as great as possible! PS: Stefania, our little star, gives me Kalomoira’s vibes. I mean, she is friendly and happy but at the same time she is shy and girly with a bright smile. As Kalomoira sang back… Read more »

Last time Greece made top 10 was back in 2013 with “Alcohol is Free.”

I think Stephania has a really great shot at comfortably making it into the top 10, provided she’s able to deliver a good live performance.

Also, as many have been saying, she has the same youthful energy Kalomira had. Note that she’s six years younger than Kalomira was at the time, and also the youngest participant in the contest this year (Note: Kalomira was not the youngest that year).

Kalomira was my totally winner together with the rest top 4 Ukraine, Norvege, Turkey and Israel….but Russias entry was a must win….big fish eat the smallest ones always…

Kalomira was the nation’s sweetheart long before ESC and radiated good cheer and sheer joyfulness. She also played the Lolitta part perfectly. Somehow I don’t see Stefania in the same vein. She may be a better singer but that’s it.

I am quite disappointed but I am expecting a bigger and better alternative.I would like to really see her push the envelope in relation to her stage performance.

It would have been a disaster.

Remember Demy’s “goddess” image that they projected onto that waterfall? Yeah, as embarrassingly bad as that.

There’s a lot of hype around the greek staging.. Let’s hope for them that we won’t be disappointed when we see the rehearsal.

I dont even know why the pegasus rumour got so big, how did everyone expect them to do it??
Since horses ( animals ) arent allowed on the stage… Just how? It would look so tacky and cheap in every way!

she is so sweet and stunning. Like a 2021 version of Kalomira but more talented (love both!)

I think Greece has a very good song but even though they did not get massive hype in the beginning, i think rehearsals will boost this entry. I hope they won’t mess it up like previous Greek entries (2017, 2018, 2019).

This promo photo is the worst one I’ve seen of her, the face looks very odd. There are far better photos of her than this, also one thing that bothers me is that young people seem to be pushed to that adulthood more and more and young girls are made to look more mature than they are.

I agree with you that the cover pic is so bad! But you got me lost after…
“young girls are made to look more mature than they are…” this statement has nothing to do with Stefania. It’s exactly the opposite. Maybe you got confused with Destiny?

Sorry maybe a wrong choice of word from me, I meant mature as in sexy and such, usually kids and young adults are almost forced to have a sex appeal.

actually i like it because she looks more mature than last year’s schoolgirl Sabrina the witch.

She looks like a model in that photoshoot and it’s quite different.

I remember seeing a comments somewhere on the internet, where people were talking how sexy Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) is made to look and how creepy it was when older men, well men in their 20’s and 30’s, were drooling all over her and fantazising to have s** with her! Talk about creepy, and back then she was like 15, while those men commented how good “rides” they offer to her.

In 2015, Greece was my #12, Cyprus my #34

In 2016, Greece was my #41, Cyprus my #24

In 2017, Greece was my #15, Cyprus my #31

In 2018, Greece was my #16, Cyprus my #1

In 2019, Greece was my #10, Cyprus my #5

In 2020, Greece was my #5, Cyprus my #31

And this year, Greece is my #2 and Cyprus my #6 (for now, this might change with staging).

So, did I always have Greece or Cyprus in my #1? No, only once, when Cyprus ended actually 2nd!

LOL. If you can’t see the stigmatisation of Eastern/Southern Europeans in such behaviours, then you are probably too naive or blind. Cause as Måns said, when Sweden does it, it’s good taste 😉

Partially you’ve many points…but it’s very bad to generalize things, building up stupid stereotypes.

I’ll vote for Iceland cuz I like the song…A country that has given….4 points in Greece in the whole esc history. So ?

If somebody stigmatizes countries on purpose is bad for him. There is no need to argue falling down in the same level.

She is cute and talented and I am happy that ERT really makes an effort this year and they wanna improve our tragic results the last years. I mean, Stefania gave wiwibloggs an interview from the studio of the main news program of the broadcaster and they even made this background just for the occasion.

well it doesn’t really mean anything, it’s all about those 3 minutes on stage and not the location of your interview.

They wanted to do well in 2019 as well but the staging was a mess and the live vocals just didn’t work.

There is a different team in charge this year. The previous was chosen by the former government who thought eurovision was trash and initially wanted to withdraw but they didnt due to high ratings.

actually they should NOT make it more complicated on stage just like they tried to do it with Greece 2017 and failed completely. Take the song for what it is, a fun pop song with 80s vibe and just let the girl dance and have fun. No pegasus or mythology.
