Daði og Gagnamagnið launch Think About Aliens mobile game

They’re the “10 Years” hitmakers who will sing for Iceland at Eurovision 2021. And now, Daði og Gagnamagnið are venturing into the video game world. Iceland’s Eurovision superstars have launched their brand new video game Daði & Gagnamagnið: Think About Aliens.

The mobile game is now available to download for Android and iOS systems.

Warning: this article may contain story spoilers!

The development team behind Think About Aliens consists of lead programmer David Gundry, animator Gabriel Kuklinski, game designer Philip Cal and lead artist Eric Gardiner. Daði Freyr and Gagnamagnið member Jóhann Jóhansson — also known as Jói — wrote the game’s story together. Also, Daði himself composed the soundtrack — which features 16-bit versions of hits like “10 Years”, “Is This Love?” and the game’s namesake “Think About Things”.

“The game is made by a small team of six guys who’ve been working hard since December on making this Gagnamagnið video game dream come true”, Jói told wiwibloggs.

Daði & Gagnamagnið: Think About Aliens is a 2D Metroidvania-style platformer game, inspired by the old school Super Nintendo titles from which Daði draws much of his aesthetic inspiration.

In the game’s opening scene, Iceland’s Eurovision stars are abducted by a fleet of evil music-hating aliens. Then, Gagnamagnið are imprisoned, leaving frontman Daði with only one option. He sets out on a noble quest to free his bandmates and defeat the evil aliens once and for all.

Each level ends with a boss fight. In a Guitar Hero-style battle, the player must help Daði hit the right notes and use music to set Gagnamagnið free. And as the party reunites, they are unlocked as playable characters each with a unique ability. Hulda shoots music note bullets in a 360-degree arc, Stebbi shoots long range powerful lasers in two directions, and Jói attacks enemies with his confetti cannon.

But who exactly imprisoned Gagnamagnið? How will they get back to Earth? Will they make it to Rotterdam in time for Eurovision 2021? You’ll have to play the game to find out! Eagle-eyed Eurovision fans might also spot a few song contest secrets, scattered throughout the alien world.

Daði og Gagnamagnið at Eurovision

In 2020, Daði og Gagnamagnið won Söngvakeppnin and earned the right to represent Iceland in Rotterdam. A favourite to win Eurovision, their song “Think About Things” went viral on TikTok and found its way into charts all over Europe.

Following the cancellation of last year’s song contest, RÚV invited the band back for Eurovision 2021. This year, they’ll sing “10 Years” in Rotterdam. The song is an ode to Daði’s wife Árný and the duo’s love that continues to grow stronger every single day.

At Eurovision, Daði og Gagnamagnið will perform “10 Years” in semi-final two at position eight in the running order.

My favourite power is Joi’s…

Also, I’m dying of laughter every time I find an Icelandic artist/easter egg

Me, who had already pre-ordered it after Dadi’s video on Youtube:
I am 4 parallel universes ahead of you

I am honestly not a fan of his songs, but this game looks genius. I’ll definitely download it if I don’t forget about it.

I haven’t downloaded a single game in a while, but this might be something I could try and play. Nice to see new ways for artists to promote these days!
