Ana Soklic Eurovision 2021 Slovenia Amen

Disciples of Slovenia’s Eurovision 2021 singer Ana Soklič have been treated to two bits of good news — an a cappella rendition of “Amen” and confirmation that she will sing a slightly different version of her entry in Rotterdam. Let’s begin with the latter.

Ana Soklič to perform new version of “Amen” at Eurovision 2021

Speaking to local media at a press conference organised by broadcaster RTVSLO, Ana revealed that she will be performing a slightly different version of “Amen” in Rotterdam next month. “A fragment has been added to the song, and a piece of this gospel work, which was just an addition to the recording, we then decided to place it in the song itself, in the performance itself, which will also be presented in Rotterdam, ” she says.

At the press conference, it was also confirmed that the “Voda” songstress will be joined on stage by the vocalist Karin Zemljič. This will be Karin’s fourth time at Eurovision — she has previously lent her voice to Maraaya, ManuElla and Lea Sirk.

Ana Soklič “Amen” (A capella version)

Fans will have to wait a few weeks before they can listen to Ana’s stage version of “Amen”. However, there is an aca-mazing rendition that they can hear right now. Coinciding with the media event, Ana released an a capella version of “Amen” in collaboration with the world-renowned vocal group Perpetuum Jazzile. The video was filmed in Bled, a Slovenian resort town in the foothills of the Julian Alps, set along the glacial Lake Bled. A “Making of” video has also been released.

What do you think of the a capella version of “Amen”? Are you excited to hear what Ana sings in Rotterdam? Let us know in the comments.

This is how to revamp a song, it went from a 2 to a 9 for me, it really is very special as this gospel song. I don’t know what the final version will be like, but if it’s more like this, it stands a great chance to pull a Tamara Todevska out the bag.

Perpetuum Jazille aren’t going to Eurovision. This is a bonus version not the revamped version.

Ohh, no. My favorite part is gone. I loved the big climax in the instrumental part towards the end in the first version. Anyways, good luck. I cant wait to hear Ana live on the stage. She will give goosebumps to many people.

What a nasty thing to say! I don’t think that sounds as well-meaning as you may think it is.

A part of me is uneasy with these super-late revamps, as my list has already formed. For a song I like, this potentially could be bad. Still, if there was one song I felt like it needed a revamp, it is the Slovenian Amen. Her voice is still amazing, but the backing track feels so much richer now. I would NOT rate this song with a 3.5. She should have released it earlier. Now I just wonder how ”slightly” different the Rotterdam version will be. Because if it’s closer to this, then the number of potential qualifiers from one of… Read more »

Nevermind, just listened to it. Song got like 10 times better. It actually has a chance (little but still) of qualifying. Due to juries mostly.

What have you listened to? They’ve not released the revamped version.

a cappella one, isn’t it “revamped” one?

No, the acapella one is just a bonus video – like other countries have been doing acoustic versions of their tracks. This group also did an acapella version with Maraaya in 2015. I don’t believe she’s releasing it until Eurovision.

They did a great job with this version. Ana was strong as usual, but Perpetuum Jazzile’s presence made things sound more empowering than preachy. Maybe their final version will find a middle ground, by adding this kind of vibe to the climax of the song.

What a dumb ass thing to say! First of all would it matter? Secondly she sounds nothing like a masculine voice.

I don’t get why some people get upset for the song being inspired by her religion. If we tolerate people of different skin color or sexuality, I expect everyone to do the same for people of different faiths.
Anyway, Ana is fabulous! I am really hoping she can make it to the Grand Final!

I love her voice but I can’t see any version of this song qualifying

Yes, it did bother me at the beginning that she’s deeply religious and has all the conservatives of Slovenia behind her… But she’s also an LGBT+ ally and I overlooked how conservative people like her are actually extremely important when it comes to spreading the idea of equality and acceptance.
I find it disappointing that the fandom can’t see that/if her PR were better she’d be among the favorites.
I’m actually kinda proud to have her as our representative

Any evidence that she is an LGBT ally? Also, I just don’t feel comfortable with religion being brought into a song.

Yas definitely the gospel part should be adjusted to be inside the song, because it’s EPIC!

Surely they would not be so crass as to make her perform 2nd once again? Moreover as there will be a shedload of more “suitable” candidates.

I saw the new Eurovision CD in shops just yesterday. I don’t think it’s allowed to change even a little thing on the song once the CD is out. At least it used to be like that.

Until when are they allowed to revamp song? I thought that they were obliged to use the same version from now

They likely submitted the changes a while ago to the EBU and only now are they releasing the details. I think they’ve done that in the past as well

I’m not sure if this is really the case, but I read once that a fine has to be paid if changes to a song are made after the deadline and the song performed on the eve of the contest doesn’t match the album version.

Not only I’m excited to hear what Slovenia will bring to Rotterdam but I’m also delighted to see that they shoot the video in Bled, a beautiful place and also my last travel destination in February 2020 right before the whole mess begun. I hope the change will increase Slovenias chances!

I’m sure her vocal will be impressive however the song is delivered. Hopefully she finds the arrangement she’s most happy with, to have a great Eurovision experience in the semi final.

Well, if that happens, she will have exceeded all of the odds, especially from the dreaded spot 2, and what an exciting shock of a moment it would be. I think all of us here would be cheering in unison for her! You have me thinking of the pure joy and emotion of Michaela, when Malta was the last to be called in SF2 2019!

Is this allowed? Not a problem if it is, but isn’t a revamp or even a minor change at this late stage acceptable by the EBU?

Jimmy Smit

Reply to  Darren

Allowed, I think. My understanding has always been that the song itself cannot change but that there is flexibility with the arrangement of the song.

I’m sorry how’s this actually allowed, like first Spain said they were doing it and now slovenia. Even Israel revamped their song quite late but still quite some time before the competition began. I think it shouldn’t be allowed and its incredibly unfair for country’s who already selected their songs.
