Austria’s Eurovision 2021 hopeful Vincent Bueno is set to leave for Rotterdam very soon. There, he will sing his song “Amen” in the second semi-final of this year’s contest. However, before leaving he visited ORF’s talent show Starmania to perform his song live for the first time on TV.

Vincent Bueno performs “Amen” live for the first time

The performance was not planned and was meant to surprise the show’s contestants and the viewers at home. Sitting behind a grand piano, the Phillipino-Austrian star brought a vocally flawless performance of his song.

With firepits surrounding the piano, it quickly looked like a proper Eurovision performance. However, Vincent told Arabella Kiesbauer that he is not planning to sit behind the piano in Rotterdam. He explained to the Eurovision 2015 host that the piano was only meant for his performance on Starmania.

Although seven is his lucky number, Vincent also told Arabella that singing fifth in the second semi-final is fine too. When asked whether he had watched his fellow competitors, Vincent answered:

“A little bit. I love music, I think the music gets more interesting and cooler year by year. I try to focus on that right now.”

Back in 2008, Vincent himself won a talent show at ORF. Then just aged 21 he won the final of Musical! Die Show. Therefore, he strongly sympathised with the Starmania contestants . He said:

“Here up, there is always this feeling of dying before the judgement comes. I think you do it so great and just continue doing that.”

When Arabella asked him whether the “feeling of dying” was really strong back then, Vincent asked, laughing:

“Yes, it is this bad, isn’t it?”

Loving Vincent’s look and the staging. I think this is going to surprise a lot of people in a few weeks time.

I wrote a comment one hour ago, but I see it’s not uploaded. I just wanna say that this song, in terms of quality, it’s just amazing. Production, voice, message. I think the hate comes from another extra-musical stuff. I don’t know. I would be surprised if it Does not finish in the Top 3 by the jury in the Second Semi-Final. There are a lot of weaker songs. Maybe this song is not made for dance, like the “eurofans” want, but it sound more expensive than 33 songs at least. Same producer of “Tout l’univers” (the best production this… Read more »

As songwriter, this song is very interesting. Raw and smart lyrics, with a great production and combination of instruments, it’s dynamic too. He has also a great voice. Technically amazing.

In terms of quality it’s easily better than 33 songs. Borderline qualifier? I think there are only two proposals in this semi-final with a “probably” higher potential than this by the jury: Switzerland and Bulgaria. And I think the crowd will not react as some “eurofans” groups.

Really good song.

Bulgaria and Switzerland are more immediate and they are not randomly doing well in betting odds. They have strong teams behind them and talented artists.

About Amen: it gets repetitive to hear Amen a thousand times, plus it’s such a cliche word in general. However, i have a feeling the staging will be very emotional and give us the story behind this song.

Yet another underrated song. Deserves to be recognised as a borderline qualifier and worthy of the final. Good luck from the UK

I really like this performer and song, he’s almost on point, he can hit the high notes but needs to improve the deep tones. He seemed a little nervous but without playing the piano I’m sure he’ll sing much better in Rotterdam.

I just don’t think his voice or this song suits him sitting behind a piano. It feels like it doesn’t come naturally to him some how?

Can you record a video that day? I was going to vote for Switzerland, but now I’m going to vote for Austria. I’m not kidding.

I am sorry to say this but I don’t like his voice in this rendition of the song. It sounds a bit forced to me.

This is qualifying I believe. He has great live vocals and if the staging is reminiscent to the video clip it is going to be amazing and impactful. Good luck Vincent!
