Montaigne releases "Technicolour" music video

She’s the ARIA Award-winning singer who will represent Australia at Eurovision 2021. And even though she’s not travelling to Rotterdam for the big night, Montaigne has still got plenty of tricks up her sleeve. She’s now unveiled the official music video for her Eurovision 2021 track “Technicolour”.

Directed by Courtney Brookes, Montaigne’s high concept music video stays true to the singer’s hyperpop fantasy aesthetic.

Montaigne — “Technicolour” (Official music video — Australia Eurovision 2021)

Montaigne — real name Jess Cerro — says she’s extremely proud of her new music video. “It’s absolutely gorgeous!”, she told Australian broadcaster SBS. “Courtney and the team absolutely hauled ass and fully understood the vibe I was trying to encapsulate and I think it’s come off to great effect. One of my favourite things I’ve done to date.”

The video opens with Montaigne in an empty warehouse, sat on a bed dressed in green and pink pastel colours. As she sings the chorus, Montaigne is joined by a troupe of dancers. Together, they bring the dull setting to life with an explosion of dance and colour, as the world blooms around them. Overall, it’s an audio-visual delight that’s certain to please hyperpop fans.

The “Technicolour” music video comes somewhat late into the Eurovision season. Previously, Montaigne’s official video was considered to be her performance from the 2021 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, where the singer gave her song its live debut in March.

Australia at Eurovision 2021

Last year brought a pivotal moment for Montaigne as she was selected to represent Australia at Eurovision 2020 in Rotterdam, having won Eurovision – Australia Decides with her stunning original song “Don’t Break Me”. The global pandemic put Eurovision dreams on hold for a year, but Montaigne is now ready to wow audiences with “Technicolour”.

However, Montaigne won’t be travelling to Rotterdam this year. In light of ongoing coronavirus concerns, the Australian delegation has opted to use Montaigne’s backup live-on-tape recording instead of travelling to the Netherlands.

At Eurovision, Montaigne will perform fifth in semi-final one.

What do you think? Do you like the “Technicolour” music video? Let us know in the comments below.

Yay! This is so much cooler and more fun than all those songs that are being hyped as favourites. This is the stuff I love ESC for, not the whiny falsetto ballads and Gaga ripoffs.

People are easily impressed. Personally I this this is dreadful, I thought maybe it was the live performance in the sports ground wasn’t good but this is no better. Lots saying she has an amazing voice, does she really? All I hear is some trying to do some vocal acrobatics and just sounding harsh.

I agree with you, lol. I read the comments first and then, when I watched the video, I asked myself what’s so great about it, lol. It’s just a normal music video, nothing really outstanding there. There’s no storyline either… It’s ok, but forgettable too.

I’m a straight woman, who is also a perv for stating the fact. Ok.

Oh! So sorry! I wasn’t aware straight women couldn’t be pervs for focussing of a woman’s breast instead of her music or art. Man, I’ve been schooled.

Beautifully shot. This made me appreciate the song more. Now I’m sad that she can’t travel to Rotterdam and bring this to life 🙁

I needed that light brown dress to be in a different and much more bold live color.

I definitely imagined this video would be more colourful and vibrant. Just giving the message of the song and the title you would expect that warehouse to have no grey in it.

I think the music video wanted to show how happy Montaigne is in a grey warehouse as you said, especially in a time where we all need some colour in our lives and escape the moodiness…

Inside of her it’s all definitely colourful and vibrant!

No. The live performance wasn’t ever going to be used but with lockdowns here, to let a group of people together would have broken covid restrictions. The performance in Sydney was for the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and had the performers in the middle of a massive stadium and restricted ticket numbers to keep the crowds down and was held way back early March. This event is usually in the streets of Sydney with huge crowd numbers and people flying in from overseas.Prior to that we had been restricted with numbers at any inside event be it church… Read more »
