This time two weeks, it will be the day after the night before. Of course, the night in question is that of semi-final one. Then we’ll be processing the aftermath, but, for now, all we can do is look into our crystal balls or examine the tea leaves.
Back in March, we asked y’all to vote for your favourites in semi-final one of Eurovision 2021 before rehearsals. After counting a total of 19,655 votes for 16 acts, the results are in.
Poll results: Malta’s Destiny is your favourite to win semi-final one of Eurovision 2021… before rehearsals
She’s rating very highly with both the oddsmakers and fans, so, it’s no surprise to see Malta’s Destiny emerge on top. The “Je Me Casse” singer secured 2,746 votes or 13.97% of all votes cast.
Though it’s certainly a dance floor filler, “Je Me Casse” has a deeper meaning. Its lyrics channel female empowerment and encourage women to pursue their dreams. “It’s not about the fact that men aren’t important in our lives,” she says. “I want to put it out there as a fact — men are important in our lives because they help us a lot. It’s more about women not needing men to be successful, to be strong, to be powerful and to be legendary. We can be powerful and we can be independent without a man.”
In second place, we have The Roop. The Lithuanian band amassed an impressive 1,857 votes. That’s 9.45% of all votes cast. “Discoteque” is already a hit at home, smashing all sorts of streaming and voting records which the trio set themselves only one year earlier with “On Fire”.
Snatching the bronze medal is Azerbaijan’s Efendi. The “Mata Hari” songstress scooped up 1,777 votes or 9.04% of all votes cast.
Rounding out the top five is Cyprus’s Elena Tsagrinou and Croatia’s Albina. The remaining five qualifiers — according to our readers — are Romania’s Roxen, Australia’s Montaigne, Ukraine’s Go_A, Sweden’s Tusse and Israel’s Eden Alene.
Check out the full pre-rehearsal results below.

Now that all semi 1 reviews are done, I can reveal that my pre-contest semi 1 qualifiers are:
1. Ukraine – 10/10
2. Romania – 9/10
3. Belgium – 9/10
4. Lithuania – 8.5/10
5. Russia – 8/10
6. Norway – 8/10
7. Cyprus – 8/10
8. Croatia – 7.5/10
9. Ireland – 7.5/10
10. Malta – 7/10
But Australia and Azerbaijan both would be among my qualifiers if they were placed in semi 2.
I still don’t get it. Why are people hyped about this song?
Lol Keino fans are still b#tthurt ?
Yes, many men many minds but…Manizha – 13!…??!!?.. Ridiculous
I heard she doesn’t care numbers, standings…but… ridiculous
It would be really funny if for once the number one in the odds don’t even qualify. Not gonna happen but still..
Plot twist: Imagine Destiny messes up during the performance. Wiwibloggs would either have a meltdown or the LOL of a lifetime.
Aren’t you tired of too much promotion about Malta…why is it necessary to say about Malta entry situation before rehearsal and then another and another advert after advert..wonder if these sites are payed commission etc…how many countries participating yet again we se adverts after adverts for Destiny…she won jesc back in 2015 that’s ok she doesn’t need to be given too much promotion over other contestants…not fair..it’s sad and boring
advert? this is a poll, p-o-l-l
Like the tens of other polls which take place every other year on this blog..
Hoping to see this same comment when Switzerland or San Marino wins the poll for second semi-final before rehearsals.
Poland love you
I think those 10 might actually be our qualifiers. My personal wish would be for Slovenia to qualify, and Australia out.
No, Cyprus will get much lower….
Some people like it, so I guess you’re not one of them (that doesn’t change the fact that Elena will place in the top5 and possibly top3)
My prediction
But my wish: Please this cheap plagiarism from Cyprus out and I don´t understand the hype because of Malta.
Swap Croatia with Azerbaijan and we have a deal lol
I believe hype is being overused here. Nobody is hyping over Malta. It’s just first in the odds which may all change in a week. But I believe there are several people who are liking the song for a number of reasons. My opinion: the song has a nice upbeat tune, the electro swing genre, it’s a banger, and obv. Destiny herself and her vocals!! She can easily pull it off and sell it to the audience with her charisma! I’m sold.
Am I the only one who thinks that Slovenia could do well by the juries? Of course the televote will be a complete other story.
I can see juries going for it yeah.
You’re not the only one actually. I think a lot of eurofans are thinking the same. Ana is one of the most talented and impressive singers this year. Unfortunately, it is just so sad that she doesn’t compete with a song better than Amen…
I think that in semi2 Slovenia would have an even harder time (and I know I’m the only person here that believes this) because of all the slow ballads, so maybe they have a chance to qualify (20%, it’s not much, but it’s at least something to have faith in)
Slovenia will be the big surprise … like North Macedonia in 2019 ????
My prediction for this semi : 1)Malta: Jury Top 3 , Televote Top 3 , Overall Top 3 2)Sweden: Jury Top 3 , Televote 6-12, Overall Top 5 3)Cyprus: Jury Top 6 , Televote Top 6 , Overall Top 5 4)Romania : Jury Top 6 , Televote 4-12 Overall: Top 7 5)Lithuania: Jury 7-12 , Televote Top 3 Overall: Top 7 6)Azerbaijan: Jury 7-12 , Televote 4-12 Overall: Top 10 7)Ukraine: Jury 7-12 , Televote:4-10, Overall Top 10 8)Israel: Jury 4-12 , Televote: 7-12 Overall: 7-12 9)Russia: Jury 7-12 , Televote:4-12 Overall : 7-12 10)Norway: Jury:7-16 , Televote:4-10 Overall:7-14 11)Ireland:… Read more »
I am not sure about Cyprus’ qualification. If Tamta (2019) placed 9th (WITH GREECE) at the semi final, i can’t see Elena making it to the final. Exept if there will be a fuego level performance (but not a copy of it)!
Also i think Belgium will qualify thanks to juries!
If Eurojury is anything to go by , Belgium may not do great with juries .
They need to be Top 5 with jury to go through .
If Tamta with a weird staging n bad vocals can make it , Elena definitely will.
Belgium: I hope so !
At least Elena has a good voice
Tamta killed the song in the semi, so an NQ was possible and fair then
I feel really sad for Manizha! Russia deserves to be in the final this year guys!
To be honest, it’s Russia, think about the possible high placement by Croatia, Slovenia and Ukraine and the most likely douze points by Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Lithuania (but will it be enough?)
Azeri’s voting for their own country is laughable, Efendi isn’t heading to the final.
Same thoughts
Seems quite fair, though I’d swap Azerbaijan for Slovenia, Sweden for Russia and Israel for Ireland tbh
Although it’s a strong semi and Malta will waltz to victory, it’s protected from its big rivals: France, Switzerland, Italy until the Grand Final. Feeling that Malta will still be waiting for that first win come midnight on 22 may.
I agree with you, although it all depends on the staging.
Malta has revealed nothing about staging and Destiny has never performed her original song live yet (other than acoustic versions) so it’s all a surprise (a good one I must admit). What keeps me very hopeful is knowing Destiny has charisma and great live vocals.
I thought Manizha would be in the top 10 of this poll. That’s surprising. And tbh, I’m also surprised to see Australia that high. I didn’t expected it.
Montaigne or her delegation probably tweeted this poll and got extra votes .
Orrrrrrr people like her song!
Probably she will win semi, but All contest sorry , no, there are much more deserving songs this year. I like her, her voice, but song ….
Let’s be honest, Azerbaijan will be nowhere close lmao
I’d say they’re borderline qualifier
I would even say Efendi might stay in semi. I hope so. Not because of her but because of this trash song. When I see fans voting for it but not for Belgium or Russia I’m really wondering what are those people listening to in everyday life.
Sorry, Cyprus is so much more trash than Azerbaijan….
Cyprus is good produced and Elena has charisma and is a good singer.Efendi has no charisma att all.
Belgium and Russia are amount my favourites
And let the hate comments start.
trash top 3 except for Malta.
Prepare to be downvoted to eternity, sir.
You don’t need to be that rude with the other entries.
REACTION TO THE RESULTS
Swap Sweden and Azerbaijan for Ireland and Belgium and that’s my perfect semi one qualifiers
Azeri entry is just overrated, I think it is gonna struggle to qualify in this compelling semi.
I think it will make it, but if it goes to the final it will probably struggle against other similar songs. I would say San Marino and Serbia are in a similar category. If all three are there, I predict one will do very well, another mid-tier, and the third close to the bottom. That’s usually what happens with these types of songs, in recent years. One outshines the others by a lot.
AZ really shouldn’t, it’s a mess in my opinion and recycling everything from last year. Countries that are fresh and trying this year shouldn’t lose out to them imo and it all be a massive injustice if that happens.
Overrated is Cyprus….
Russia is literally my favorite in this Semi. I don’t have single doubt she’s going through. Who I worry the most is Cyprus and Romania. They might be shocking non qualifiers. Giving thought to voting history and countries in this semi and running order…. we all know we’ll have some shock.
Well Russia is not my favourite. However, I hope it does qualify. I think it clearly deserves being in the final.
I doubt it. From what I’ve seen so far, they are very strong vocally live.
I think cyprus will be fine, despite not having greece in the same semi final. I’m actually more worried about Romania because I’m getting similar vibes from songs like Here Them Calling and Blackbird which were dark toned fan favorites that didn’t qualify. On one hand, it does stand out from the flood of female bops but it could hurt it too. I don’t know, we can only wait until the show.
Okay fair results, absolutely agree with Malta, but Russia is being underrated here
Russia coming 13th whilst Malta coming 1st.
Just wow.
I’m sorry but Malta coming 1st has nothing to do with Russia coming 13th.
I agree that Russia should be in the top 10 or even further up for sure!
I think Azerbaijan is heading for an NQ, so too might Australia. Replace Australia and Azerbaijan with Ireland and Israel/Russia and I think it will be more likely.
Malta
Sweden
Cyprus
Ukraine
Lithuania
Russia
Romania
Belgium
Ireland
Israel/Croatia
9th-12th place will be heartbreaking, as I predict it will be extremely close.
Sorry, but Israel or Croatia will never beat Azerbaijan.
If there is justice in the world, they should
Why so much hate?
why did no one vote for manizha? absolutely tasteless
Maybe they just don’t like the song? I’m not against Manhiza’s song, it’s just that people do have their own opinions.
Whilst I agree with the first three countries, in my opinion Russia should be much further up the list (and Ireland). Anyway, I’m sure she will be further up nonetheless.
I voted for her!
