Every weekday, since mid-March, the team from wiwibloggs has brought you the latest titbits from the world of Eurovision 2021. We trawled through Instagram, Twitter and elsewhere so that y’all didn’t have to. However, from Saturday, our focus will shift to rehearsals and all the latest happenings in Rotterdam. Thus, this is the final Daily Digest for 2021. Today, Go_A and Albina get remixed, Manizha talks staging and Eden Alene covers the weekend. But first…

Eurovision news: 7 May

Jeangu Macrooy reveals that his Eurovision performance is going to have “a lot of energy”

The Netherlands’ Jeangu Macrooy has revealed a few details about his Eurovision 2021 staging. Speaking to NPO Radio 5’s Goeiedag Haandrikman!, the singer said that viewers can expect his performance to be full of energy. Jeangu said that he hopes to bring the celebration of “Birth of a New Age” to the stage. Jeangu told: “I cannot tell much as it still has to stay a secret, but it will be something with a lot of energy. I am very happy with it and I cannot wait to show it.”

Andrey Sychev to serve as director for Manizha’s performance

Russian governmental gazette Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports that Andrey Sychev has been flown in to be the director of Manizha’s Eurovision stage show. Graduating from Russia’s most famous theatre school GITIS, Sychev has been a director on Channel One’s The Voice of Russia as well as serving as the main director of concert tours for several large Russian artists. Earlier, Manizha revealed that her Eurovision staging was going to be “more dynamic, more positive” compared to her national final performance.

DJ Nana reveals official remix of Go_A’s “SHUM”

With “SHUM”, Ukraine’s Go_A have combined traditional folklore from the region of Polyssia with dark techno elements. Ukrainian DJ NANA has now made a new spin on it with a remix. Commenting on the remix, Go_A told Viva: “It is always interesting to watch how others see our art. Nana has an interesting and unusual perception of it. We hope that we will wait for the moment, when we are allowed to finally get together on the dance floor. I think that exactly there, our remix will maximise its potential.”

“Tick-Tock” remixed

Croatia’s Albina is also sending fans into a fresh spin with a remix of “Tick-Tock”. The new mix is courtesy of Stefy De Cicco. Albina herself describes it as “awesome”, saying that she couldn’t be happier with the end result.

Hurricane meet Junior Eurovision star

The ladies of Hurricane met with Serbia’s Junior Eurovision 2019 singer Darija Vracevic this week. And for a brief moment, the trio became a quartet. They perform a little bit of “Loco Loco” together.

Eden Alene covers The Weeknd

On Thursday she performed covers of Dunan Laurence, Eleni Foureira and Beyoncé. But before departing for Rotterdam, Israel’s Eden Alene also dropped into the glglz radio station to perform her version of The Weeknd’s hit “Save Your Tears”.

Tornike Kipiani talks to Eurovision.tv

Compared to the other 38 competing acts at Eurovision 2021, Georgia’s Tornike Kipiani has been conspicuously quiet. However, just before rehearsals began, he appeared on the official Eurovision Instagram for a Q&A. He begins with a cryptic message: “Nothing can make me happy and I’m always happy”. He also shares his musical inspirations and tells fans about the first CD he ever bought.

Daði og Gagnamagnið show how they made their music video creatures

Iceland’s Daði and Árný have let fans in on the secrets behind their “10 Years” music video. In a 17-minute clip, the husband and wife duo share how the monster and the robot, aka the villain and the hero, came to be. They show us all stages of their creation, from early sketches to making the moulds to using reclaimed materials.

Oh my, loving the Go_A remix – even more up my street, take me to the club now!

And why oh why oh why oh why didn’t Albina send this version to Eurovision – this is massively better – this is much more club ready and the “oh no, oh no, oh no’s” have been nicely toned down so as to not pierce my ears. This would have been a top 10 if they’d sent this version.

smh you considered that hurricane meeting a jesc singer or some random remixes of “shum” and “tick-tock” are more important than the release of the new album of hooverphonic…
