Norway TIX First Rehearsal Eurovision 2021

Norway’s TIX has taken to the Rotterdam Ahoy stage for his first rehearsal of Eurovision 2021. Did he take us to heaven? Let’s see.

Norway’s TIX “Fallen Angel” — Eurovision 2021 first rehearsal

Oliver: This isn’t quite as impactful as some might have been expecting. But maybe that’s because we’ve seen it before. TIX’s staging is almost a direct cut and paste from Melodi Grand Prix, but with less demon dancers and a slightly different (but equally fabulous) outfit. As well, there’s now a very pretty warm pastel cloud effect that rolls across the LED screens during the final chorus. Vocally, he was on point, if a little hesitant — but that’s to be expected with first run-throughs. The camerawork certainly needs some perfecting to hit TIX from all the right angles during the song’s climax. Very pleasant performance, but nothing remarkable.

Padraig: Like Lithuania and Sweden yesterday, Norway has basically taken its national final staging and ramped it up for the Ahoy stage. In TIX’s case, he’s blinged up his outfit even more… who knew that was possible? Now, beneath his massive faux-fur coat, he’s wearing a bejewelled top and bottoms. Even his handcuffs are glittering. Although, his lucky dice are gone. It all appears to be going very smoothly. The delegation even had time to squeeze in an extra rehearsal during their allotted time.

The best compliment I can give this is the last time there were tons of female pop bangers that everyone thought would do really well was in Belgrade 2008 when a cheesy dated pop ballad from a super popular singer in his home country and an overstuffed staging won the whole thing

I really like Norway this year, one of my favourites like Ireland. I’d prefer both in the final, although some fans aren’t so keen on them, but both Fallen Angel and Maps are final worthy!

i’m confused by his act, it’s incredibly tacky but he serves zero energy

I was hoping this one would get the “Zero Gravity” treatment, by keeping the concept and refining the visuals. But sadly it didn’t happen. Since the stage is way bigger this time, I guess even part of the “WTF is happening here?” impact got a little lost. I would avoid wide shots here.

Would rather be a pretentious plastic monument (whatever that is) than be an artist and sing that horrible song on stage to embarass my whole nation xD

Sorry but i can’t take this seriously. The song is totally generic, and the staging is absolutely ridiculous.

I like tix and his message but always thought his song was generic. His staging seems better for a small stage.

I’m sorry but everyone saying the wings have a purpose, the headband has a purpose, the dice has a purpose.
Can we get back to the fact that this is a song contest and not a metaphor contest? It’s like some kind of quiz show, oh the “wings mean this…” “the way he smiles at 2:50 means this”
The average viewer at home won’t know this.
Can we actually talk about the song?

Wish it was in Norwegian ? my first experience with the song was after it won MGP, the song is nice (probably not on my Q list though).

Staging makes me cringe though and I’m sorry I just can’t.

Exactly. In the videoclip, you can understand all these things properly, they did an amazing job there… but here? If you don’t know the story, you’re not going to understand the meaning of all these things. Casual viewers are going to think that the headband says TIX because it’s his name and that’s it, and this applies to all the details.

they will need a huge televoting push, because the juries will crucify this…

Oh, thank God he dropped the dice. It looked really tacky. This outfit looks a lot better than the national final performance.

I was hoping that they would change the staging and make it a little bit more interesting. This now has huge chances of being a NQ.

Very kitsch (they didn’t get the message) and boring compared to Cyprus and Croatia.

This will struggle and now it’s 100% sure.

NQ. This staging looks so so stupid, I was hoping they would change it. Too many good songs in this semi for TIX to qualify

Biggest question mark for me in this semi. This can either do extremely good or extremely bad xD. As of now I lean towards the extremely bad category but I really don’t know how this will fare with the televotes. Juries will on the other hand not like this one.

I don’t like the song but I think it is a mustake to underestimate Norway. It could qualify and I wouldn’t be surprised.

Same staging as Nor. final with small improvements, very good vocals, safe choice.
In the mortalcombat zone. 2 fallen ones doesn’t fit easily in gf. One of them probably will fall.
Hope at the end Norvege to qualify. Actually, his personal adventure (tour. syn.) makes him special anyway.

Was hoping Norway’s staging could help change my mind on the song.

It didn’t. I’m sorry there is just way better songs in this semi.

I didnt expect a very different performance. Norwegians are known for not changing their performances, just elevating them.
Vocally – okay fine, but he can do better. Let’s see on Wednesday.

Following Cypros (based on the reherasal clip and her vocal) – I think Norway should start packing! It’s juvenile (in my opinion) and got its fans. But is it enough? And will the juries be manipulated by TIX’s efforts to promote his personal story in a song/staging that in many ways seems unrelated? I have a feeling that they won’t!
