Czech Republic Benny Cristo First Rehearsal Eurovision 2021
Czech Republic’s Benny Cristo “Omaga” — Eurovision 2021 first rehearsal
Oliver: The look is great. Benny’s rocking a bleach blonde buzzcut and a gold sequin bomber jacket. Coupled with the psychadelic colour splash graphics, there’s a happy-go-lucky vibe to it all. Unfortunately, the performance falls flat. He’s joined by four dancers and there’s lots of movement on stage, but there’s no standout moment commanding attention. Not the strongest vocal performance, either — Benny mumbled a lot. However, there are some pleasant vocal flourishes in the final chorus which add a dynamic element to the song’s otherwise repetitive melody. It all needs amping up if the Czech Republic want a shot at qualification.
Padraig: Benny seemed to be just going through the motions, especially during the earlier run. While there was lots of movement, Benny lacked energy. The LED is pleasant if unspectacular. It incorporated the kaleidoscope effect from his music video, but doesn’t have the same in your face impact as Ukraine’s psychedelic onslaught yesterday. Benny himself looks very charming in his glittering gold jacket, complete with a red rose on his chest. And indeed, by the end of the last run through we saw a glimpse of the charismatic performance we witnessed in the music video. More of that please!
