Forget the red carpet. Tonight at Eurovision 2021 it’s all about the Turquoise Carpet. The bold colour celebrates the Netherlands’ rich history with water — and it just happens to be in the shade of Moroccanoil, the official presenting partners of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Tonight, acts from 34 participating countries* will walk the carpet in their best Eurovision eleganza. As ever we’ll be on the carpet with our cameras to get all the fashionable tea. We will also be updating our Instagram non-stop, so keep an eye on our Stories and main feed.
We will also be live on YouTube, so be sure to tune in to wiwi.tv for live commentary.
*Please note: The acts from Poland, Iceland, Malta and Romania will not be attending this evening’s event following positive COVID-19 test results within their delegations and/or hotels. The Australian delegation did not travel to Rotterdam in light of travel restrictions.

What do you think of tonight’s turquoise carpet looks? Who wore the best outfit? Let us know in the comments below.
Some scary lips from Serbia and Latvia.
Not a good look ladies, less is more.
you should take less is more to heart, regarding your comments
Totally agree. It shouldn’t have been asked, and certainly not asked again after that same host had already put the question to James in his press conference.
This rude host could go on a contest with the horrible orange carpet hosts from Tel Aviv. They all deserve to win.
And on another note, though I think Brexit was one of the stupidest things the UK has done in recent history, there is no excuse to mistreat the artist. NO EXCUSE WHATSOEVER! And that goes for any other artist from any other “problematic” country. If we start giving it legitimacy, ESC will collapse.
BTW Kateryna is naturally left-handed
BTW, I think Vadiotas from Lithuania is SUPER hot. Such a sexy man. I’ve been in love from the first moment. So yummy!
100% agreed
Absolutely! I totally would.
And twice on a Sunday too
He’s gorgeous
Lol Darren, sounds like it’s been a long lockdown!
Wayyy too long Jimmy haha
Eden looked stunning! She’s really beautiful.
Eden makes me laugh – she seems great fun!
Totally agree! Embarrassing and stupid!
Kateryna Pavlenko of Go_A….is identical with Trinity from Matrix !!!
Let’s hope nobody tested positive today before jury show, we need all of them healthy and perform live on stage, please stay safe,
greetings from Ukraine
Does anyone know if the Eurovision youtube channel will be streaming the Semi’s and Grand Final like they did last year?
If they do stream on youtube, I hope the geolock is lifted for fans living outside of Europe and Australia. Otherwise, I’ll just watch Eurovision on an iPlayer that is playable in the us, like SVT or RTE.
Lots of hugs, a traffic jam of people, no masks…they’re walking on thin ice.
If the whole thing gets cancelled the last minute they’ll know why.
Given four countries were quarantining back in their hotel I thought a lot more restraint would have been shown.
I wont be surprised if other delegations have to quarantine over this week.
If it turns out that there are more positive cases it will prove that some people are a bit too relaxed and not paying proper attention.
Efendi looked like a Princess. stunning, definitely my favourite look on the carpet. Such an amazing day filled with so much joy.
Indeed! Efendi, Anxhela, Tix, Uku, Vadiotas and Jendrik look so very cute and adorable.
Say what you will but my fashion moments front the carpets are Italy, Bulgaria, Spain, Israel, Greece, Serbia, and Ukraine
Am I the only one who felt a bit sorry with Tornike? Idk why but I just had the feeling that he was a bit lonely there, like as if no one really paid attention to him. One can kinda also see that he somehow doesn’t feel quite comfortable with all this Eurovision experience, but yeah, as I said, I kinda feel sorry for him. I wish he could’ve participated with Take me as I am cause that song had the potential to shine on the stage. You, on the other hand, is a cute song, but it’s just not… Read more »
I hope Tornike does enjoy his Eurovision experience. I’m certainly glad the 38 can all be in Rotterdam! He is obviously not a frontrunner this year but it’s impressive that he went from a harder rock song last year to this more soulful blues entry, which has a nice Joe Cocker-like quality. Considering he wrote and composed both songs himself, it must be hard to not get the reaction and response one would hope for – obviously some delegations have more resources to support their artist, develop their media training, and project the image they desire. After the last 14… Read more »
it was painful to watch the ceremony. Artists were too far from the journalists so they had to scream, elena was cold and had to scream to be heard, if they dont catch covid their throats must be damaged. It should have been cancelled.
Yeah, and the press was very close to one another so there was a block of noise around everyone.
wiwi sorry your sound tonight on the carpet was poor. couldn’t hear responses from participants. assume it was due to social distancing. that said William Suzanne your banter and coverage has been wonderful and has cheered my heart.
Off topic but Voila is currently charting in 5 countries on itunes with number 1 in Malta
In more exciting news for me , Arcade is at number 11 on Spotify in india 🙂
The Roop boys .. so creative, so beautiful, high fashion 🙂 <3
Certainly high on something
don’t need much more than watching my beloved hooverphonic wearing their lovely johnny cash t-shirts
IKR!!!
Oh, we are. Albina is a sweetheart, and an amazingly talented singer. 🙂
Have you seem her interview with Nikkie? It’s like they knew themselves for years, both of them are so natural.
By the way, it wouldn’t bother me if Nikkie became a permanent addition to Eurovision’s Youtube channel every year. Everybody gets so comfortable around her, that’s a rare skill to find.
I have and I agree. Nikkie is a natural at making people feel welcome. She should come back for further editions. Maybe in some collaboration with the EBU, regardless of who’s hosting.
Totally this. Nikki and the LookLab will be a great permanent fixture going forward.
Just leave out the rehearsal clips, please – I don’t mind reading about them, but apart from some photos, I try not to actually see them. Maybe that’s just me…
I’ll see what I can do.
Thank you. Other than that, top marks.
Fair enough. For you that don’t like spoilers this week must be a difficult one, they’re everywhere.
Croatia is going to surprise with how well they do in the Televote
Omg how cold was that interviewer towards the United Kingdom on the turquoise carpet , I feel sorry for James and the uk !! U are really disliked by Europe
I felt that too. James is a great ambassador for the UK- so happy all the time. That presenter also loved repeating’ kick ass ‘.
Thanks Marc ,I thought it was me
I dunno, James seemed to be drunk during the interview, I don’t blame him to be honest.
Twat
No his name is James
Thank you for noticing that. I was never one of those brits who said “Europe hates us” but i have noticed alot of double standards recently. People saying “europe doesnt hate Brits” but yesterday when james vocal wasnt spot on everyone went crazy saying how bad the UKs vocal was but others have had bad vocals in the past few days and for them it was like “oh well its just a rehearsal, its nerves they will be fine on the night, or they are saving their voice for the live shows. Also, and i never believe anyone should be… Read more »
Nonsense
Excuse me, which part is nonsense? You were the one who said Europe doesnt like the UK, i was partly agreeing with you and now you say its nonsense!!! Go figure.
As body-shaming women was historically more intense and more damaging, sadly I believe that body-shaming men goes more under the radar nowadays. That might be the difference between the reactions of how James and Destiny’s unwarranted comments were treated. Still, there were some people rightfully pointing out how James should be respected too. But aside that… yeah, I can see how some people have low expectations from the some countries, and that sometimes transfers to being incredibly nitpicky when it comes to finding faults in their songs. Even in cases when other artists get a pass. I agree, it’s annoying.… Read more »
Much love for the UK and this amazing singer! He is fantastic.
Exactly. The UK isn’t the only country with a recent bad track record. Countries like Spain and Ireland say hi
You invite someone to party only to tell them they are not very popular amongst the guests! Just plain rude – the interviewer should get a serios scolding by his boss and the sponsors!
Happens when you sh.t where you eat.
Did I hear someone say James ( UK ) said he will have pyros? Sorry I’m
Late to the ? party
Too bad there weren’t any hot messes of presenters on the carpet this year; those always make these things more fun to watch. Remember the drunken female host from Israel or that brown chick from Ukraine who talked over the interviewees and spoke some really horrible English?
The awkward presenters is the main reason why I remember the opening ceremony in Kyiv, “stay tuuuned!”
the one who kept calling tamta “tamata”. Legend
which chick from Ukraine? Do you remember her name?
Whoever was commenting horrible stuff about Lesley and what she was wearing in the Wiwibloggs live feed is actually disgusting and you should take a long look at yourself. Even Suzanne had to say it to stop.
Lesley looked exquisite! She also seemed the most relaxed and comfortable she’s been since arriving to Rotterdam, which was great to see. I’m totally rooting for you Ireland!
Definitely! She is stunning inside and outside. She was enjoying her moment and she deserves it.
Just some people are genuinely sickening like
In all fairness, Ireland deserves to qualify this year. It’s a *super tough* semi, but I think that Ireland is still in my personal top ten. It’s a cute, vibrant song, and Lesley’s personality is absolutely adorable. 🙂
PS. Yes, her co-writer Philip is really good looking.
He is a handsome chap. I hope he represents us at some point in the future as lead singer.
Is he also a singer?
Yeah he’s her backing vocalist this year as well as co-writer
Yes, he has his own band who are actually pretty good- Normandie. Check them out on YouTube.
I will. Maybe RTE can indeed put his name under consideration for further projects. 🙂
Probably now that you mention it
But if he wants to represent us I’ll not complain lol
He is Swedish but I think his accent sounded very English. His sound with his band Normadie is very different from Maps- definitely not Melodifest material. It is more alternative rock than pop.
She looked cool! I was even thinking it would have looked good as her semi final outfit.
Totally!
It’s green, not black… at least to me. Maybe it’s both.
I totally see green too, green corduroy? I suppose it could be green lighting reflecting on black.
I don’t see anything wrong with how Lesley looked, at least she didn’t look like she was at a hooker’s convention.
Jesus. Who could dislike Lesley or anything about her? She’s such a sweetheart and very classy.
Did ya’ll see Damiano’s (Italy) earrings? I thought they were beautiful.
Damn Kirkorov has captivated Natalia. There is no other reason for seeing him always together with her
He looks creepy.
Yes it was more toned down than previous years but I still enjoyed it. Artists, hosts, countries spreading love, positivity, having fun and enyojing each others company. Which is what ESC is all about after all!
The male backing singer/composer with Lesley Roy was gorgeous! They all looked very stylish but he was hot!
I was thinking the exact same!
Darren, I’ve just been Google stalking him ever since.
Insta follow him lol that’s what I’m about lol
It’s weird seeing The Roop not wearing yellow. And of course they bring yellow tulips haha I love them
Black-white-red were their On fire colours!!! Not sure if that was on purpose but their outfits were amazing. However Vaidotas seemed a little sad/off today or is it just me??
He looks like he accidentally bought some edibles lol
Jokes aside I did notice that too. Maybe he just didn’t get much sleep.
Love him anyways!
I’ve never read a more accurate description of someone lol
Albina must have even lower blood pressure than me. She’s always wearing duvets.
Found it kind of inappropriate how Stefania’s dancer touched her on her hip… like boy, she is only 18 and you look like over 30, pls don’t be creepy
Anxhela from Albania is looking absolutely stunning!
–
I also get why some had issues with the majority of artists not having masks, but I look at it like this: They were in a big, airy space, and not for that long time. The reporters were distancing from the artists (and aside from the main hosts, were required to weak masks). All PAs were wearing masks too. Any chance that a transmission would come that way is minimal. The only danger came from people packing together in the same delegation, but think of them like temporary members of the same household – they spend a lot of time… Read more »
It sends out completely the wrong message but I understand why most artists did what they did. I just wanted to call out Tornike because he obviously made a proactive choice, and I think it is a very commendable choice in the circumstances. He gets a lot of grief from Eurofans but it is so refreshing to see him sticking to his values, it makes me like him even more!
Of course, shout out to Tornike and some members of The Black Mamba for being additionally cautious! I probably would’ve done the same thing. Also, a smaller (but still valid) shout out to Ana, Gjon, Victoria, Vincent, and Uku for travelling alone, and distancing.
I was just trying to say that, by what I saw, the distancing was pretty okay, and that the transmission which could have happened on the carpet (fingers crossed that it didn’t), is the same one which could have happened in the hotel, as these people travelling in pack are sharing rooms.
Yes, most people were being respectful and I don’t begrudge anyone for losing themselves in what is an exciting environment after all, but I definitely felt uncomfortable at times, people were shouting, sometimes singing, which is proven to expel up to 20 times more virus into the air. We are not quite where we need to be just yet and as significant influencers it would have been nice to see a few more people take their responsibilities a bit more diligently.
It’s also very hard to judge space and spacing without being there in person, so all we can really do is trust and hope that they were all being responsible.
That’s true. But my experience with the camera says that it’s more likely the space was wider than shorter. And that’s also what I hope for, considering all the safety declarations the EBU, and The Dutch broadcaster are claiming.
PS. Tix. Tix was also alone, but his big coat felt like another person beside him, lol. 😉
It’s only Covid where 98% make a quick recovery ; it’s not smallpox or the Bubonic Plague FFS .. drama queens and mass hysteria is part of the postmodern zeitgeist, unfortunately
Vasil exudes confidence and positivity. Love it. Gosh he’s so handsome…. Thirsty Ellen is back again lmao
His boyfriend is cute too. They make a lovely couple.
Ok but why is Senhit so iconic tho?
I must say I love Tornike. I think he is the only artist to wear a mask so far. It can’t be good for his image but it’s so refreshing to see that image doesn’t matter to him, he is more interested in doing what is right. A real gentleman, love him!
I agree,
also his song is very underrated
Most of The Black Mamba were wearing masks.
Two out of thirty-four is not a great ratio is it?
I really like the carpet colour 🙂
But this opening ceremony is a little bit below previous editions, especially in comparison with 2018
I know all this situation with corona virus is compromising, and i really hope there will be no problems about it!
Good luck to everyone
I could feel the positive energy among all the participants. So much love and happiness. So many hard working and nice people who really waited a long time to be here. I wish them all a lot of luck, and especially good health. I wish that all of them are able to perform live, in health and peace. And regardless of the result (sadly, only ten can qualify) that they achieve the level of performance they hoped for. Sending you all hugs. 🙂
Yes, a lovely spirit and atmosphere! And a hug back to you, Colin 🙂
Hugs, Jimmy Smit. 🙂
Shoutout to Georgia’s singer for being the only one with a mask.
When styling is more important than health for others….
Appologies if someone wore one too after him. I stopped watching. But majority is acting dumb.
Forgot to take your meds today psycho?
HOW does this comment manage to be posted but when I posted a review of a Eurovision song with entirely neutral words it is ‘pending review’. it’s laughable
Omg loved the guy from Czech Republic he is so funny!
It’s weird how such a charismatic and likable guy can appear as such a non-entity when he’s performing onstage.
exactly my thought. he is a big performer in Czech Republic and in general he’s talented but the rehearsals have been disappointing unfortunately. no energy at all, boring staging and he looks nervous.
I think it’s mainly because of no audience in the arena. Benny is a real performer for people, so why would he give all his energy out during rehearsals when it’s not important? I’m pretty sure he will be energetic af during the jury show and semifinal when audience will be in the arena and it will actually matter.
Samanta looks absolutely effing fabulous. Love that wig, Elsa Queen.
Wise choice by Iceland to avoid the opening ceremony, no point taking that risk being pregnant.
None of the Icelandic team is attending.
Exactly! I’m glad they stuck together.
It’s not because of the prefnancy, it’s because somebody in their delegation was tested covid positive.
“It’s twerky and sexy”
-Sanja Vucic, 2021
Sanja is iconic. We stan! <3
Just realised that the Portuguese guys are really handsome.
Good luck to everyone! All look nice!
ehmmm, well Kirkorov always trying to take center stage – blah!
Kirkorov talking all the time and overshadowing Natalia who is the representative. Typical Kirkorov. #freenatalia
Same thing with Ukraine and DJ. Bi*ch you are here because of Kata’s voice, let her talk.
If you’ve seen their other interviews you would know that he has the best English in the band and often acts as the interpreter.
They are a group. All four of them. The middle-height blond guy is obviously the most proficient in English, so it’s okay. Kata looks like a humble person who doesn’t like overexposing anyway. I truly got the feeling that it was arranged that way.
Kirkorov, on the other hand… yeah, he feels like he’s on an ego-trip. Natalia should have been the main focus.
If you watch looklab you can see that she is obviously annoyed with him taking all the questions
No she is not, what are you talking about. He’s the only one talking because he understands English well. When other members got asked questions they could barely roll out an answer. He’s doing them a favor.
If you follow her instagram you can tell that her english is good. Pronounciation is nothing to die for but her english is good. Ihor and the other guy not so much but they are not the face of Go_A
Dig deeper
no, Robert… the real boss is definitely Kateryna, but she is not yet fluent in English, so Taras just helps… when the interviews are in Ukrainian (I saw it many times!) Kateryna is always the main speaker of the band…
The Nightmare Team
Haven’t watched any of the interviews this year so I had no idea Natalia is such a sweetheart. It’s just a shame she has that creepy Svengali-like Kirkorov
with her all the time.
