They’re the Eurovision 2021 winners from Italy who in recent weeks have smashed the Spotify charts globally, landed two songs in the U.K. Top 40 and drawn the attention of Miley Cyrus. But the love for Måneskin — the four-piece consisting of Damiano David, Victoria De Angelis, Thomas Raggi, and Ethan Torchio — is perhaps best felt at home, as seen by their latest achievement: landing on the cover of Vanity Fair Italia.

The group are front and centre on the magazine’s special Pride issue, which is out on June 9. Considered symbols of a new generation that’s embracing tolerance and celebrating diversity, Måneskin more than fit with the themes of the cover spread. As editor-in-chief Simone Marchetti writes: “We wanted this issue to fill in the gaps in the story of who we are, of how we live, of how much better we can be.”

Måneskin land on cover of Vanity Fair Italia’s Pride issue

Nicolo Cerioni, the group’s stylist, oversaw their look on the cover. He’s the genius who gifted us their Sanremo and Eurovision looks too.

We see lead singer Damino splayed on his back with his tongue out as guitarist Thomas holds one of his legs. Damiano’s head cuts into the cover language — “different from who?” — and rests above the subhead which reads, “Måneskin, on the courage to be oneself.”

But this isn’t the Damiano show. Far from it. Thomas really pops in an orange-and-black checkerboard suit with purple embellishments, while Ethan dares to bare in an open button-up. He and Damiano both wear pearls, playing on stereotypes about gender and what’s off-limits.

As ever, Victoria more than holds her own. Resting on all fours, she’s a fashion lioness on the prowl in form-fitting trousers and a red chemise with orange ruffles near the wrists. Her oversized sunglasses may obscure her eyes, but she says a lot with her fish-gape pout — a sensual but subtle parting of the lips considered less exaggerated than the infamous “duck face look” adopted by so many cover stars.

And from those lips Vic has a lot to say, as the magazine teased on its Instagram post above.

“I’ve always had very strong ideas about how I wanted to be,” she says. “I refused things typically defined for a child, and around me they made fun of me for skating, playing soccer, not wearing skirts. I was giving myself the chance to be what I wanted. I suffered a little, but I had the courage and today thanks to that courage I know that I could have been much more hurt, or I would have risked leaving the most important decision to others: the ones about me.”

During her time in Rotterdam, the group’s sole female told me that, thankfully, she doesn’t face any unique challenges as a woman in rock. However, she says much of this may stem from the support and love of her bandmates. You can hear what she had to say in our Insta post above.

Are you loving this cover as much as we are? Does Måneskin consistently slay you with their fashion? Let us know in the comments box below!

The fact that people are still attempting to ruin their victory with those false accusations of plagiarising a song of a Dutch band is horrific

Envy is a bad feeling. They have to break down these boys who have the success they deserve with false accusations.

I said boys as in the US they say guys (including boys and girls). But yes, you are right. Boys and girls. In italian when you say ragazzi (boys) usually is the short form to include everybody. When a teacher recalls a noisy classroom, he says “Ragazzi, fate un po’ silenzio” and that includes boys and girls. I would like to ask if any of the wiwibloggs readers has started to learn italian thanks to Måneskin?

I studied Italian as small part of my degree and have dipped in and out over the years. But I’ve been listening to Måneskin since they won ESC, and wanted to understand the lyrics properly, so now back doing my Duolingo Italian course, listening to Italian language podcasts and reading simple short stories. All due to Måneskin! I might even be able to write more than “il serpente mangia un ragno.” soon!

Ethan is probably the most beautiful man I have seen from a long time. He only has a defect. He smokes. The band in total, especially Damiano, Ethan and also Thomas show too much they smoke and this is highly unethical because they lead many of their followers to emulate them. And that is bad. I hope it is not only to revive something of the sixties and seventies, that smoke is freedom, because it is not. At all.
