During the French delegation’s last press conference before leaving for Rotterdam, the head of the delegation Alexandra Redde-Amiel celebrated the success of the national final and confirmed that Eurovision France: C’est vous qui décidez would return in 2022.
And now France Télévisions has officially opened the submissions and registration process for the next edition of its selection. Aspiring candidates will be able to submit an application from 21 June 2021 until 24 October 2021. The rules stipulate that, among other things, you must be at least 16 years old, and that the songs and compositions entered must be mainly in French and/or regional languages, including those spoken in France’s overseas territories and departments. That means Reunionese, Shimaore, Futunan, Nengone, Guianan Creole and other tongues are welcome.
As in the previous call for applications, the first phase of the casting will lead to a physical audition for an undetermined number of candidates. They’ll perform live on a Parisian theatre in front of the entire French delegation led by Alexandra Redde-Amiel.
The purpose of this intermediate selection is to determine the 12 candidates who will compete in the Eurovision France selection, where the public will select its representative during a live broadcast.
In 2021, the French HoD sought to present a wide-range of acts that cut across style and genre and who, collectively, represented the current French musical landscape.
Eurovision France 2022: C’est vous qui décidez
The summer won’t be easy for French broadcaster France Télévisions. First, it has the immediate challenge of planning Junior Eurovision, which it will host in Paris this December. And, most relevant to our current discussion, they need to find a new representative who can match or even surpass Barbara Pravi’s Eurovision result — a silver medal that marks the country’s best finish in over thirty years. That takes poise, prowess, voice and more. Mon dieu!
The ambition and resolve are clearly there. Prior to Eurovision, at a press conference devoted to Barbara Pravi, France Télévisions welcomed the very promising ratings of Eurovision France and confirmed the broadcaster’s desire to make Eurovision its flagship programme.
The group’s management promised to maintain and renew the show for 2022. Although changes could still be made to the format, the current voting system is based on a 50/50 split between a public vote and a professional jury. It is divided into two stages. The first stage will be the qualification phase: the 7 songs that come first in the public vote will be selected for a final vote. An eighth song can be picked by the jury — it receives a so-called “euro-ticket” — and will be eligible for the final vote. Last year the jury saved LMK.
The vote will then be reset to zero. The public and the jury will vote once more — 50/50 — for the song that will represent France at Eurovision 2021.
In 2021 the professional jury was chaired by Amir Haddad and included Marie Myriam, Natasha St Pier and fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier. The television broadcast of Eurovision France is scheduled for the first half of 2022.

I think the French television should make a big show in an arena and not a studio if there are no restrictions.
However, i do think that Kendij Girac would be a FANTASTIC choice for Eurovision because he’s a special artist that stands out and his ethnic music would appeal to Eastern countries.
I feel so sorry for those who will apply….After Barbara everything will look and sound meh
I hope that France will send such a great song as “Voila” next year. It was my big favorite this year.
France 2 will also launch a whole new TV contest entitled “The artist”, the aim of which is to discover young songwriters and performers. As in France “The Voice” belongs to a rival TV channel (and private channel), I think it will be a way for them to find diamonds without going through the official casting of “C’est vous qui décidez”. That would be the dream. I don’t know if she would ever consider it but I would love to see it. She’s so good, super talented and seems to be an amazing human being.
This year’s C’est vous qui décidez was amazing and so many interesting exceptional acts were presented imo… Philippine, LMK, Casanova, the-girl-with-the-emotional-song-but-not-emotional-enough-to-top-Voila, Pony X, the guy from French Polynesia, I swear so many participants were memorable enough for me to think that the French NF was at least better than MF this year
Voila was the only option this year. The others were not even competition.
Hope they get a more competitive final next year, something like DE 2018.
We will never know what the other songs would have done. And anyway the goal of a NF is to select one song. Not two or three. So as long as a NF has one song that manages to reach top5, we should be happy.
No. If there’s only one good song, there’s no point in even having a contest – they’re just wasting our time.

You have a mistake in the article: the dates to submit songs. As the pdf with the rules says the submission window starts on June 21th and closes on October 24th.

The article talks about the voting by using the future but we don’t know how it will look like in EF2022. When Alexandra confirmed EF’s return, she confirmed that there would be some small improvements as well, so maybe it concerns the voting system.
French national finals are so qualitative that it could only be great news. It worked very well this year leading to a superb final product and a very respectable 2nd place. I even hope Eurovision France will be able to take another level if they go for what was initially planned for this year by conducting the contest in an “arena” or simply an extended “salle de spectacle” in a regional city as it will probably increase involvement and interest from local public. To the French on here: Could France now become a Eurovision powerhouse like the Netherlands?
It’s about time finally. But better sent the question to people outside because I think the proof is here since 2016 now. The team in FTV who works on Eurovision seems to be fully motivated and regularly interacts with fans. That’s really pleasant to see all the efforts made with the national selection and of course the 2nd place was really an achivement this year. I would love to see my country reaching equal results from countries like Ukraine, Italy or the Netherlands who are recently examples of regularity with exigence, diversity and mixing genres in their contributions.
To answer your question, we definitely have the potential, our HoD is super-motivated, just see how much she improved and learnt from “The best in me” to Valentina and then Eurovision France (without even taking into account the 2nd place for Barbara) which was quite a quality show, I thought.
Anyway, we never know, but personally, what I’d like is an efficient pop song à la “J’ai cherché” that could easily be played on french radios. I’d love Barbara and Igit to compose a french bop for Carla for EF2022.
I wouldn’t necessarily call the Netherlands a powerhouse at Eurovision. They’ve been solid in recent years, but nowhere near powerhouse status.
they are personally one of my fave. countries – 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020 – all in my top 10 actually, and 2015, 2017 were also great! always serving quality no matter the genre… 2021 was one of the weakest entries tho..
The Netherlands are not a powerhouse but they get better each year, (well, at least most of the times) I would say Ukraine has sent stronger entries lately
They should change their voting system though, the way they allocated the televote points was very weird. It was basically impossible to catch up with a low jury score, even with a high televote. Also lacked transparency since we have no idea what the televote percentages were.
Doesn’t really matter this time since Barbara won both, but would have been hurtful for Madame Monsieur for example.
The system from Destination Eurovision was just as bad. For example Bilal Hassani would have won regardless of how the juries voted.
Such great news for World Music Day. I hope that Barbara’s success both last January and of course most recently in Rotterdam will spread in French music scene and attract more and more talents and emerging artists. Eurovision France 2021 was so diverse and all the 12 acts benefited from this experience in their own way (Magique, On a mangé le soleil and Je t’emmenerai danser broacasted on national radios, Juliette Moraine set to collaborate with Mister Duncan Laurence or the “Si l’on chantait ensemble” collaboration between 6 of this year’s contestants). I’m here for it. Louane would be a strong pick since she’s known outside the country specially in Germany. Her last hit “Aimer à mort” is very modern and she wrote it herself. And if Yseult comes with an absolute gem like “Corps” then it’s done 🙂

I wasn’t really a fan of his song, but I agree about him returning. He seems like someone with potential.
Apart from Barbara, Cephaz is the only contestant of “C’est vous qui décidez” which knew how to make its way this year. His songs (“On a mangé le soleil”, “Depuis toi”) work well on the radio and in the charts, he is invited on television (recently “Taratata”, and on Saturday evening he was at Roland Garross for la fête de la musique with Amir, Patrick Fiori, Valentina …) I’m happy for him, and I hope to see him again try his luck for Eurovision.

That’s great news. Eurovision “vision” is really on its way to change it seems considering she’s quite an etablished artist, at least for some years ago, that’s so pleasant to see her interested in the contest. Plus, she has the potential for sure and a strong vocal signature. I love the idea!
I’m hoping that she’s really going to apply. She’s so good and her voice is so unique I would love for her to represent us. Plus, she’s established here so maybe that would encourage other established artists to join.
