She’s had a whirlwind year and recently enjoyed major success at Eurovision 2021 in Rotterdam. But France’s Barbara Pravi isn’t taking a well-deserved vacation. Non, non. Instead she’s kept the new music flowing and has released “Le jour se lève” — a hymn to love and the happiness that comes with creating a lasting connection.

The title means “The Day Is Rising” or “The Day Begins”, and it might as well be about Barbara herself. She only recently recovered from Covid, but since then our girl has appeared on a Spotify advert in New York’s Times Square and rushed to the studio to finish recording her new album, which will be available in a few weeks.

Faced with the impatience of her new audience, the singer has decided to unveil the new track “Le jour se lève”. It’s the second part of a triptych in three parts, of which her Eurovision entry “Voilà” is the first. The third part will be called “L’homme et l’oiseau” (“The man and the bird”). Taken together, the three music videos are intended to constitute a short film.

Barbara Pravi releases “Le jour se lève”

Barbara has been having fun teasing her audience on Instagram for a few days. In fact, several mysterious Insta Stories teased the first notes of the new song on piano. The very cinematographic teaser immerses the viewer in the room of an old house on the edge of the Bay of the Somme in northern France.

Barbara’s silhouette is a divine apparition, and she gazes pensively at the horizon. Directed by Elisa Baudoin, the intoxicating clip conveys the lyrical poetry Barbara is known for. As she says in the music video: “Quand j’embrasse tes yeux, j’embrasse aussi tes lèvres” (“When I kiss your eyes, I also kiss your lips”).

“This song, it sings for over a year in my life,” Barbara says in an Instagram post announcing the release of the track. She co-wrote the song with Vincha (Vincent Brion) during an inspiring night in a studio.

It was an intimate and uplifting experience: “I cherish so much these moments of creation, inhabited by fears, doubts, joy and freedom.”

Despite its melancholic air, the song depicts a positive and pleasant feeling: that of love. More precisely, it strives to convey that feeling of being full and fulfilled when you are with your beloved. Love, Barbara suggests, drives out the fears and doubts that commonly haunt us.

Speaking to Wiwibloggs, she made it clear she wants to convey a sense of resilience and hope after difficult experiences.

“It is a love song, it is very tender, it is a little expression of when one is doing well and ‘boom’ — there is nothing else to say on that. I am not afraid anymore, I am good.”

While waiting for the release of her new album, Barbara — who gave France its best Eurovision result in thirty years — is poised to launch her first big tour “On n’enferme pas les oiseaux” (We don’t lock up the birds). Indeed, a few days ago, Barbara announced more than thirty dates in France and in Europe. Foreign fans shouldn’t panic: a hundred additional dates abroad will be announced soon.

The French public will be able to meet Barbara many times over the coming months. From Junior Eurovision, which will be held in Paris next December, to the final of Eurovision France, which just opened casting, there’s no doubt that the spotlight will find Barbara once more.
