After the release of three singles that form a music video triptych, France’s Barbara Pravi is ready for an even bigger release. She’s revealed the cover art and release date for On n’enferme pas les oiseaux — her debut album, which is the result of six years of hard work. It’s dropping on August 27, 2021.

Barbara shared the news with a mysterious image on Instagram, which showcased the young singer’s silhouette in shadows. that Barbara’s public was able to catch a glimpse of the horizon of her new album entitled On n’enferme pas les oiseau (You don’t lock up birds) will included her recently released tracks “Voilà”, “Le jour se lève” and “L’homme et l’oiseau”, among others.

As usual, and with a few poetic words, Barbara revealed the creative process behind the album, accompanied with some archive photos. The project was born in Italy — in Naples to be precise — during a summer holiday. The singer admits that at the time she had no idea that she would have become so successful two years later.

“I dreamt about the story of the bird and woke up in the night to write it down on a piece of paper. At the same time, I drew a creepy picture (ahah). I had long hair, and I don’t think I could have imagined what those words would become two years later.”

“On n’enferme pas les oiseau”

With her hand on her hips and her head held high, Barbara poses proudly on the cover. Dressed in a white bustier with an endless neckline, she breaks the blue of the sky and recalls the mystical figure of the white dove. The visual was produced by a team of Italian photographers.

Why that stance? “Because nothing is more majestic than the spreading of one’s own wings,” Barbara said in a moving Instagram post.

The guiding principle of the album seems to lean toward self-expression — a feeling of freedom despite the judgement of others. In short, Barbara uses the album to finalise her own renaissance, which began with her Eurovision journey. Now an accomplished artist, she is no longer afraid to move forward and take risks.

“Because it’s terrifying to jump into the void — because it’s not serious. You fall, you get up again. You jump, you change. Because there is faith.”

On n’enferme pas les oiseaux will be released on August 27th. In the meantime, Barbara continues her European tour, noting that she will pass through London and Dublin on the 1st and 3rd of March 2021.
