‘Tis the season of dancing. The latest Eurovision star to showcase their rhythmical moves is France’s Bilal Hassani. The “Roi” singer is competing on Danse avec les stars 2021 and made a big first impression with his debut dance.

Danse avec les stars (Dance with the stars) is the French edition of the world-renowned dancing competition show. Over the coming weeks, celebrities will perform a variety of ballroom and Latin dance routines with the aim of taking home the trophy at the end.

Bilal Hassani debuts on Danse avec les stars 2021

For his first appearance on the show, however, Bilal showcased a different variety of dance to the traditional ballroom and Latin styles. Alongside professional partner Jordan Mouillerac, the Eurovision 2019 star delivered a contemporary dance routine.

The pair danced to Sia’s “Courage To Change”. Dressed in white and going barefoot, Bilal and Jordan gave a captivating performance from start to finish.

Bilal began on the floor before getting up to meet Jordan. They used a series of doors as part of their routine that helped with the storytelling aspect. There was light and shade but also a steady build over the course of the performance, all of which lead the viewer on a journey.

Performance starts at 5:26 in the below video

The judging on this year’s Danse avec les stars is slightly more complicated than other versions of the show. Each of the four judges was able to “buzz” during a performance. If an act receives a full set of buzzes from all the judges, then they are immune from elimination and automatically progress in the competition.

Bilal and Jordan managed to impress all four judges and were the only partnership of the first week to earn immunity by gaining four buzzes. However, this means we don’t know exactly how many points the Eurovision alum was awarded – the scores of any act that earns immunity are not disclosed.

Regardless of what the specific score might be, Bilal has emerged as an early standout in this year’s competition. Fingers crossed he’ll able to maintain form when challenged with the more traditional ballroom and Latin dancing styles over the coming weeks.

Dita von Teese, who appeared on stage as part of Germany’s Eurovision 2009 performance, is also a contestant on Danse avec les stars 2021. The burlesque dancer will make her debut appearance in the second live show this coming Friday.

Both Bilal and Dita will be hoping to replicate the success of Loïc Nottet. Belgium’s Eurovision 2015 representative went on to win Danse avec les stars later on in the same year.

What do you make of Bilal’s debut performance on Danse avec les stars 2021? How far do you think he’ll go in the competition? Let us know all your thoughts in the comments below!

Courageous? i think the lgbt people in the middle east making their voices despite serious threats are courageous, not this Karen looking guy. Your definition of courage is sio diluted lool

Strange?! Open your mind maybe it can help in 2021, these kind of comments should not still exist, I’m done …., BILAL was PHENOMENAL, period, mixed couple or not whatever, who cares? Two men or two women, or one of each, is it so important? NO, it was beautiful and magical to see these two men dancing, they were both very good and it’s the main thing for a show like this.
And no DWS it’s not only for mixed couples, look at what happens in other countries. #OpenUp #CelebrateDiversity you have already forgotten?

Sadly, there will be many people watching with the same thought. This is because of the repressive and oppressive society they grew up in – luckily, people like Bilal are changing that and hopefully opening eyes and minds. Thank you, Bilal.

The new season of the US version of DWTS starts this week, and JoJo Siwa is paired up with a female dancer. Nothing really wrong with that

That doesn’t matter. Men can dance with men, hetero or gay. They don’t actually fall in love. It’s just pretend.

Yeah but most dances with 2 persons are actually meant as a metaphor for romance.

Because 2 women or 2 men can’t have or can’t represent a romance, come on guy you should grow up or shut up….

He was effectively very good and touching, he gave me goosebumps at some moments. Well done Bilal. He has given such a good performance and let a very good impression in this first show.
In the Voice All Stars, Emmy Liyanna, Terence James have done very very well too in their blind auditions. I’d love to see Bilal winning DALS and Emmy or Terence winning the Voice All Stars, but I’m a big fan of MB14 so let’s see, the next weeks will be very interesting.

He was the best dancer ! I hope he’ll do very well in the next weeks. I think he could win. Lots of people didn’t love him but recognized he dances so good.
