On Thursday they revealed that their new single MAMMAMIA” will drop on October 8, leaving fans to wonder whether it’d be a cover of the ABBA hit, an Italian-language banger, or something else entirely.

And on Friday afternoon Måneskin gave us the answer by releasing the first snippet of the song on TikTok.

Fans of the Italian rockers will recognise the terrain. The song is loud and in-your-face, and sets Damiano’s raspy vocals against hard-edged drumming and guitar.

@therealmaneskinOh MAMMAMIA a little sneak peak for you 💝♬ MAMMAMIA – Måneskin

Måneskin tease MAMMAMIA lyrics and sound on TikTok

Brash and brimming with bravado, Måneskin’s “MAMMAMIA” lyrics punch hard. They portray someone who knows they’re hot stuff — so much so they need to issue a warning.

“You wanna touch my body, I say you’re not allowed,” Damiano sings. “You wanna handle me, but I’m a bit too much. I’ll burn all the place down ’cause I’m too f*cking hot.”

Some of the lyrics seem to hit back at those who wrongly thought Damiano was snorting cocaine in the green room during the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. As he sings: “You want to arrest me, but we’re just having fun. I swear that I’m not drunk and I’m not taking drugs, they ask me why so hot? ’cause I’m Italian…”

Damiano previously hit back at allegations during the Eurovision winner’s press conference. The frontman firmly told media, “I don’t use drugs,” as you can see in the video I filmed above.

The rumour had started on social media, where a clip was published showing Damiano bending over, with his head near the Green Room table.

On closer look, it is clear that Damiano’s hands were held at his sides, clenched in fists — an unlikely pose for someone about to snort drugs. The singer explained that bandmate Thomas had broken a glass and he was leaning down to move it. He also subsequently passed a drugs test.

MAMMAMIA PRE-LISTENING PARTIES

In any case, you can still register to attend a series of pre-listening parties around Europe. They’ll be taking place on October 7 at 21:00 CEST in the following cities:

Berlin Istanbul New York
London Zurich Moscow
Helsinki Oslo Amsterdam
Milan Tallinn Warsaw
Rome Riga Madrid
Paris Vilnius

For your chance at attending, you need to visit this link and pre-save the track on Spotify or pre-add it on Apple Music. Then fill out the form, read the rules and keep everything crossed.

The graphic shared via the Måneskin Instagram Story says that folks in Oslo do NOT have to pre-save or pre-add the track.

With all respect to Måneskin, MAMMAMIA is really generic… I liked IWBYS and of course Zitti E Buoni but this? Nah

Unrelated question, regarding Italy…Do we ever find out in this lifetime which city will host ESC 2022?

I don’t know. At this point, I’m trying to not get obsessed with when the host city is going to be revealed Because it’s no use getting all wound up and impatient over it. I think it will be revealed at some point, but I think maybe it’s taking so long because They don’t want to just announce the city but maybe they’re trying to figure out dates and a logo so it can all be announced at once. The last country to have such a late announcement was Germany, which didn’t announce its host city until October 2010 so… Read more »

For the host city I think they’re waiting for administrative elections that are going to take place tomorrow in many Italian cities, some potential host cities included (Torino and Milan for example).

I didn’t realize elections are coming up in Italy. That might explain why there’s a delay in announcing the host city. It wouldn’t be good timing to announce the host city and Accidentally make it political. Let’s see by Tuesday after elections are over if we actually get an announcement for the whole city

I care less about the host city and more about which countries will be competing

My best guess is unless nobody withdraws that participated this year and if Armenia returns, will probably get 40 countries

It will be Turin the 10th, 12th and 14th of may. Are you happy now? Thank you for waiting for so long. Germany in 2011 announced the city the 12th of october, but no one was so nervous.

it’s just cause they’re both funky songs with a strong drum beat.
