Alexandra Rotan topped the televote at Eurovision 2019 with the group KEiiNO. Now the singer has put her Eurovision prowess back on full show by performing a rendition of Verka Serduchka’s “Dancing Lasha Tumbai” in the latest episode of Stjernekamp 2021.

Stjernekamp (Battle of the Stars) is a Norwegian TV show that challenges singers to perform songs from a variety of different musical genres. And what better theme is there than Eurovision.

In the sixth episode of the current season, the remaining six contestants gave two performances. Alongside a solo hip hop cover, they split into two groups of three to perform iconic Eurovision songs. Norway’s Eurovision 2021 star TIX was also on hand to give comments as part of the panel.

Alexandra Rotan formed a group with Jorun Stiansen and Heidi Ruud Ellingsen. Together, they performed one of the most well-known Eurovision runner-ups. Verka Serduchka finished second for Ukraine at Eurovision 2007 with “Dancing Lasha Tumbai”.

Wearing metallic silver outfits and with disco balls on their heads, the three Norwegian singers brought the spirit of Verka Serduchka to prime-time Norwegian TV.

Joined by a group of dancers in the background, Alexandra, Jorun and Heidi delivered a fun rendition of the quirky and insanely catchy song.

The other group – comprised of Marius Roth Christensen, Bjørn Tomren and Melodi Grand Prix alum Carina Dahl – went back a bit further in time for their Eurovision cover. They sang Germany’s Eurovision 1979 song “Dschinghis Khan”.

The three of them stood on podiums for the entire performance, as the dancers did their thing behind them and pyro fire went off in front.

Alexandra Rotan on Stjernekamp 2021: Weeks 5-6

Below is a roundup of Alexandra Rotan’s other performances in week five and six of Stjernekamp 2021. You can review our previous article for performances from weeks one to four.

Week 5 – Country

For country week, Alexandra performed “When I Get Where I’m Going”, originally by Brad Paisley (feat. Dolly Parton).

Past Melodi Grand Prix contestant Anna-Lisa Kumoji was eliminated this week following a rendition of Dolly Parton’s “9 To 5”. Carina Dahl performed Gretchen Wilson’s “Redneck Woman” and landed in the bottom three, though was ultimately declared safe.

Week 6 – Hip hop and group assignment

In addition to her “Dancing Lasha Tumbai” group performance, Alexandra Rotan also performed a hip hop song in the latest episode. The KEiiNO member took on “All I Do Is Win”, which was first released by DJ Khaled featuring T-Pain, Ludacris, Rick Ross and Snoop Dogg.

Carina Dahl found herself in the bottom three once again following her performance of “The Monster” by Eminem featuring Rhianna. But she was eventually anounced as safe and will progress to next week with Alexandra.

Other music genres that will be featured in the coming weeks include Latin pop, joik, musical theatre and big band.

Alexandra is absolutely amazing in this show and everything she does is GOLD, but i do think Bjørn Tomren is the one to beat! He is a yodler and a throat singer and absolutely everything he does turns into MAGIC.

It definitely should be Alexandra and Bjørn in the final, and if Norway really wanna stick out and win again in Eurovision Bjørn would have been a great choice!!

I agree! For me it should be Alexandra and Bjøn in the final! But I am scared regional voting might influence who ends up in the final. Alexandra is so versatile and immensely talented. Bjørn is so unique and has had the best song choices so far making every performance his own.

She seems to be the clear favourite for the win…! This show is really successful in Norway from what I hear and if this is true, Alexandra will get the recognition she deserved after the contest…

Yeah, the show is very popular. There’s a fierce battle between Stjernekamp and the Norwegian version of Dancing with the stars every fall on which show that has the most viewers. Online newspapers will often report the number of viewers and declare a “winner” between the two shows, and Stjernekamp usually wins.
