In recent days Måneskin have done their best to set Instagram on fire with a series of sensual photos. In one, captioned “Why so hot?”, we see the four bandmates naked and sweating. Crotches are covered by strategically placed knees and thighs, and in the case of Victoria, her own hand and a black star overlay. Their facial expressions read as post-coital, but also as “poised for more coitus.” Heavy eye-liner and thick mascara intensifies their various gazes, suggesting there is much more to, uh, come.
Given the visual tease, it’s no surprise that “MAMMAMIA” — the band’s latest single — doesn’t just nod to sex, but makes it the star attraction. The three-minute song is a full-frontal burst of libido, layered over pulsating rhythm and guitar strums. Damiano’s smoky vocal carries some extra smoke and plenty of swagger. You need the latter to deliver lines like, “They ask me why I’m so hot, ’cause I’m Italiano.”

Lyrically, sex is couched in terms of freedom and liberation. The song starts with Damiano stuck in a police car and being treated like he “did something criminal,” just moments after he says he feels “the heat” along with “the beat” (of the drums).
In the chorus, his figurative release, he begs someone “to spit your love on me” while explaining he’s on his knees. He’ll keep the entire affair (or exploration or transaction, depending on your take) a secret so long as he can “get a taste.” Boundaries are here to be pushed: “Tell me your limit and we’ll cross the line again.”
There’s give and take, though — and he’s willing to submit. “Give me a command and I’ll do what you ask,” he sings. “‘Cause my favorite music’s your ah, ah…”
MAMMAMIA lyrics — Maneskin
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, mamma-mia ma, ma-mamma-mia ah
I feel the heat up, uh, I feel the beat of drums
Call this police, I’ll do it, they’ve stolen all my fun
I’m breaking free, but I’m stuck in a police car
Oh, mamma-mia ma, ma-mamma-mia ah
They treat me like if I did something criminal
All eyes on me I feel like I’m a superstar
I’m not a freak, I just thought it was carnival
(Chorus)
Oh, mamma-mamma mia, spit your love on me
I’m on my knees and I can’t wait to treat your brain
I’ll keep the secret if you let me get a taste
Tell me your limit and we’ll cross the line again
Oh, mamma-mamma-mia
Oh, mamma-mia-ma, ma-mamma mia ah
You wanna touch my body, I say you’re not allowed
You wanna handle me, but I’m a bit too much
I’ll burned all the place down, ’cause I’m too fucking hot
Oh, mamma-mia-ma, ma-mamma mia ah
They wanna arrest me but I was just having fun
I swear that I’m not drunk and I’m not taking drugs
They ask me why I’m so hot, ’cause I’m italiano
(Chorus)
Oh, mamma-mamma mia, spit your love on me
I’m on my knees and I can’t wait to treat your brain
I’ll keep the secret if you let me get a taste
Tell me your limit and we’ll cross the line again
Oh, mamma-mamma-mia
(Bridge)
Give me a command and I’ll do what you ask
‘Cause my favorite music’s your ah, ah
Give me a command and I’ll do what you ask
‘Cause my favorite music’s your ah, ah
Give me a command and I’ll do what you ask
‘Cause my favorite music’s your ah, ah
Give me a command and I’ll do what you ask
‘Cause I love when you sing of love
(Chorus)
Oh, mamma-mamma mia, spit your love on me
I’m on my knees and I can’t wait to treat your brain
I’ll keep the secret if you let me get a taste
Tell me your limit and we’ll cross the line again
Oh, mamma-mamma-mia
Place your love on me
Place your love on me
Place your love on me
Place your love on me
Place your love on me
Oh, mamma-mamma-mia
I hope their next songs will not be like this. What I see right now, is what I was afraid the most that they will gradually lose their authenticity and copy paste IWYS as it was popular among the audience. I personally fell in love with this group not for this and their looks are gradually changing from really glamour rock fashionable to kitsch for the crowd 🙁
Makes me want to play “My Sharona” again
I’m sorry but this single is not at the same level than their other songs. We will see the results in the charts… I can’t believe they all have accepted this song as their next single. Noone of them saw that it’s very weak??!
So maybe they had no plans to make something serious (or in any level), for now! This is what Victoria the bassist said : “We didn’t take it too seriously. It’s a very silly, careless song and we’ve never done something like that before. It came together very naturally. We just tried to have fun and enjoy it, because [it was written] in a moment where we were experiencing a lot of things.
A bit boring and predictable.
Sad that even with this band, the woman needs to cover her nipples but the men don’t.
Nipples are nipples, downvoters, there is no difference.
Sure, but due to instagram policies there´s no way to publish them without the content being taken down =/
Cudos to Måneskin. They have expressed their experience at Eurovision very clearly. Nobody bothered to apologize for that. No wonder this song has been created just after the event and sounds angry. Some food for thought.
This short song is their confesdion after all they have been through in ESC.
I can’t blame them for going with something similar in style and substance with “I Wanna Be Your Slave”, because it just makes sense. They also capitalized on their sex appeal, the fact they’re a Italian sensation and the ridiculous accusations that took them to the headlines all around Europe, sounds like a clever move. But I hope they find a way to balance this kind of sound with ther songs in Italian, which in my opinion are way better. It’s a pity that part of their audience seems to still don’t know gems like “Coraline”, “Vent’anni” and “Torna a… Read more »
For me, it’s a “confession” song- that just had to come, after all the emotions they got at Eurovision (good and not so good). I don’t want to compare this song with others, because Mamamia is about something else.
They have their own sound, which can be traced in many songs, such as Lividi Sui Gomiti and Il nome del padre, when I start listening to them, I always confuse which one is playing. I like Mammamia i think its very catchy.
And to hear some italian songs in future would be very very good too.
The build-up of the song is very similar to IWBYS and its bridge resembles a bit the “parla” bridge from Zitti e buoni. Nevertheless the lyrical concept of MAMMAMIA is different from the other songs: In my view, it seems to explore the sudden fame Maneskin and Damiano especially experienced after ESC, accompanied with all the fake rumours that started to circulate (drugs). All in all I like the song, but I would really like to see them try something new next time. Oh and although I love Damiano’s English accent, an Italian song would be even more appreciated by… Read more »
theyre literally such an overrated fraud. Do they ever NOT steal a song that already exists lol
Always Bird Lover to come on various sites, also youtube, to spit on Måneskin. Come on. You are becoming boring.
Bro, get yourself a new comment, you’re getting boring
Love them but this is I Wanna Be Your Slave 2.0
Lyrically it’s completely different, but musically it is unfortunately
In the tv show ‘The young and the restless’, the characters Mariah and Tessa were mentioning ‘the italian band that won eurovision’.
Y’ALL TURIN WAS JUST ANNOUNCED AS THE HOST, HUUURAAAY
I personally don’t see a GREAT correlation with IWBYS, it’s just their style of music, it’s reasonable to sound familiar.. Anyways, the song is good but that’s really it. It certainly won’t be as popular as IWBYS but it’ll probs get some dozens of millions of views
Who knows, it might get a run in the Hot 100 as it’s not as explicit as IWBYS if they get lucky enough
it is a nice song, reminds me A LOT of I wanna be your slave which is disappointing because i was hoping we could hear something new. I wouldn’t choose it as their new lead single of a new era but i hope it is a hit for them!
People keep saying that, but I’m just not hearing the similarity;
