Mika and his team have already flatly denied that he’ll be hosting Eurovision 2022 in Italy. But another weekend has brought another statement from the British-Lebanese singer.

It came last Sunday in an interview published by the French newspaper Le Journal du dimanche, where a journalist asked Mika once again if the rumour is true.

Mike is clearly over it. He said: “I really don’t know what you are talking about. You must have read wrongly — change your glasses!”

Mika denies Eurovision 2022 hosting rumours

It is, of course, a predictable outcome given Mika’s negative opinion about Eurovision. On the current edition of X Factor, Mika reinforced this sentiment several times, once calling a singer’s choreography “too Eurovision-y” — in a negative way.

The “Grace Kelly” hitmaker was even worried about competitors on his team choosing Eurovision tracks — yet another sign that his opinion on the song contest has not changed since he previously told French journalists that “most of the songs sent to the competition are shameful, they are pure s**t!”

Rumours about the Eurovision 2022 hosts have been spreading for months now.

One of the most talked about names has undoubtedly been Mika. He is, in fact, a great candidate, given his international background and close ties with Italy, where he’s been a judge of X Factor for five editions.

Mika’s staff already denied the rumour months ago, but last month the radio presenter Gabriele Corsi dropped the bomb that Mika had the hosting gig.

Speaking on his show Chiamate Roma Triuno Triuno, he said: “Big success for Mika who is going to… He’s going to host Eurovision!”

He later said that he was just joking.

He can have his opinion about Eurovision but what he said is simply not true. Eurovision offers great music and VARIETY every single year so there are every year good AND bad songs. If you see what quality Eurovision brings every year.. he’s clearly stuck in the 2005-2008 area

What this episode has taught me is how disappointing Mika’s singing career has been after such a promising start. I thought he’d made more records but instead he’s in the niche of a reality TV judge.

Can you please stop posting about this guy. We get it. He insulted Eurovision and he’s not gonna host. Please post actual Eurovision-related news, like updates on Junior Eurovision, which Wiwibloggs has pretty much neglected so far this year.

Stop posting about Mika, this isn’t news. It’s promo for a nobody like him. A total has been.

Can we please criticise his views on Eurovision without insulting him? After all these rumours started because he is still very much beloved in Italy (I don’t know about France)

He could be lying due to the contract but then again Isn’t The Voice airing on the same period as Eurovision rehearsals/live shows?

I hope it’s not him, PLEASE. Why would that italian dude mention him as a host though? My only concern is that EBU might want someone fully fluent in English and French and he ticks the boxes but i hope they can find Italians..

Mika’s most streamed song
233m streams

Duncan’s most streamed song (eurovision winning song)
556m streams – Arcade

Maneskin most streamed song
701m streams – Beggin’
237m streams – Zitti E Buoni (eurovision winning song)

Now talk about all these sh*tty eurovision songs as he stated outselling him lol. The irony

Mika this Mika that, we all know his opinnions about anything Eurovision related and to be fair he is allowed to say no. I just hope that “no” won’t turn into “yes”, it would be quite a change of mind – after getting money and publicity of course. The latter one been given him already with articles such as this.

I think this rumour was created only to embarrass and to annoy him knowing his aversion for Eurovision and to make the eurofans talking of him and hating on him again more and it works. He has his point of view on the contest that I don’t share, millions of people are like him, saying even worst things about esc, unfortunately the contest has not good reputation for everybody and everywhere but you can’t blame somebody for not liking something you adore, that’s life. If you ignore all of this, he would have done a good host because of his… Read more »

The rumor probably started because Rai 1 director Stefano Coletta likely thought of him as 1 of the possible choices for hosting the event since he has already hosted his own variety show here. But that’s probably where it stopped, I don’t think he was ever actually contacted by Rai about the job.

I find articles and rumours like the embarrassing. The man doesn’t like Eurovision. Leave him alone. Let the rumours die. Ultimately it just brings negative attention to Eurovision.

Having said that if there is any truth to then I will be disappointed.

As others have already stated let’s cover Junior Eurovision where there is some verifiable news rather than publishing stories you know are irritating us.

I find it amusing that we again come back to this, while having scant coverage of the upcoming Junior Eurovision Song Contest. But then that’s the history of this place with hardly any JESC coverage until about a week before.

The junior contest is for children. I’m happy with the amount of attention Wiwi gives it, it’s just right for me.

Now that you’ve had your answer (again), will you please stop pushing someone if they aren’t interested? You’ve been doing the same with Steps and it’s getting a bit annoying.

They don’t want to participate/host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022 and in future editions. End of story.

So now that Mika’s denied the whole thing once again, can we please just leave him be and move on?

Sounds like his opinion of Eurovision hasn’t changed much at all throughout the years. I’m glad he’s denying the rumours himself, Italy’s got plenty of competent television people to choose from so I never really thought they needed to bring in an international star.

How many times do have we go through this again? If Mika says he doesn’t want to host Eurovision, he doesn’t wanna host Eurovision. End of story right there.

I am not a fan. But your comment is pointless. Clearly Mika decided to develop his career in a different way, he doesn’t make just music, but also he works on different music programmes. In France he has been a judge for the Voice, mentoring also Gjon’s Tears. In Italy he has been a judge in X factor for many years, also in Italy he had his own tv show, which won the European award for entertainment (an international awards festival managed exactly by EBU). So I wouldn’t call him nobody, just because he doesn’t get much attention anymore from… Read more »

The negative comments about Mika are more likely due to repeated articles on this site suggesting his involvement when there is no substance. The same as we keep getting articles about Steps and Frock Destroyers. It’s off season and there isn’t much to talk about right now. This is a great website but this time of the year publishing endless rumours devalues the website.

Aw, he’s not that bad. I like all his five albums. His opinion of the contest is totally wrong, but he probably hasn’t even seen the contest since the Terry Wogan days when Scooch burned themselves into his brain.

Hmm true, but I mean him being mostly associated with a series like x factor nowadays it’s kinda ironic that he’s shading on eurovision.

True. The X Factor even deliberately includes terrible performers, laughs at them, and then pushes them off a cliff.

True he might not be making hits but that does not mean he is without merits. In parts of Europe he is huge. He still has a career, getting frequent airplay and his five albums are good. He is a very quirky camp unique artist that would be perfect for ESC if he chose it…

If he doesn’t like Eurovision he shouldn’t host it. Seems strange that giving his disdain for the contest he should choose to be a judge on a show that most people would regard as a lighthearted singing competition with wannabe performers singing cover versions of songs.

An Italian website reported that due to budget cuts, the chances of RAI choosing hosts that are not already under contract with them is not very high. Michelle Hunziker works for Mediaset, so I don’t think they will choose her over their own people.

At this point, I guess it’s safe to say he would face some major backlash from ESC fans if he really were to host it.
It would be like Salvador Sobral competing with an entry penned by Kirkorov.
