Over the past ten weeks, Alexandra Rotan has been battling it out with other Norwegian singers on Stjernekamp 2021. Making it all the way to this weekend’s grand final, the KEiiNO member ultimately finished as the runner-up of the competition.

Stjernekamp (Battle of the Stars) is a Norwegian TV show that challenges singers to perform songs from a variety of different musical genres. Though for the grand final, Alexandra was able to choose songs of any style.

Alexandra performs with KEiiNO for Stjernekamp grand final

For her first performance of the grand final, Alexandra brought in the help of her fellow KEiiNO members Tom Hugo and Fred Buljo. The Eurovision 2019 trio performed their new single “Venus”.

Since Alexandra is the one competing on Stjernekamp, she naturally remained at the centre of the performance. She once again showcased the vocals and passion that had brought her to the final stage of the contest.

Tom and Fred flanked Alexandra on stage, providing backing vocals and guitar/synths.

As her final ever performance of Stjernekamp 2021, Alexandra gave a rendition of “You’re the Voice”, originally released by Australian singer John Farnham.

The Norwegian singer started off softly and then let her voice soar from the first chorus onward. Alexandra gave a spirited performance that got everyone else in the TV studio singing and clapping along.

Despite two stellar performances in the grand final, Alexandra sadly just missed out on the Stjernekamp trophy. The victory went to yodeler and throat singer Bjørn Tomren. Nevertheless, Alexandra has proved to the entirety of Norway just what an absolute shining star she is.

Alexandra Rotan on Stjernekamp 2021: Weeks 7-10

Below is a roundup of Alexandra Rotan’s performances from weeks seven to ten of Stjernekamp 2021. You can review our previous articles to view her performances from weeks one to four and weeks five to six.

Week 7 – Latin pop and folk

For her Latin-pop performance, Alexandra took on “Bailamons” by Enrique Iglesias.

Past Melodi Grand Prix alumna, Carina Dahl, sang “Don’t Go Yet” by Camila Cabello.

Meanwhile, Carina Dahl performed “Om du dro fra mæ no” (“If you left now”)  by Odd Nordstoga. Both singers were declared safe and avoided the bottom two.

Week 8 – Joik and duet

Alexandra’s KEiiNO bandmate, Fred Buljo, was naturally able to give her some tips on performing a joik song. He recommended “In ge mun diede”, originally by Bárut and Inga Juuso, and was in the audience to watch Alexandra perform.

For her joik performance, Carina chose “Viviann” by Sofia Jannok.

There was a minor Eurovision connection for Alexandra’s duet performance. She sang “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now”, made famous by Eurovision 1988 winner Céline Dion. Alexandra performed alongside Norwegian-American singer Adam Douglas.

Carina sang with Adrian Jørgensen for her duet. The pair gave a rendition of “Treng dæ no”, the Norwegian version of Lady Antebellum’s “Need you now”. Carina ended up in the bottom two of the episode, but was ultimately announced as safe.

Week 9 – Big band and musical

During the semi final of Stjernekamp 2021, each of Alexandra, Carina and Bjørn were accompanied by a live orchestra. Alexandra’s big band number was the classic song “New York, New York”, originally sung by Liza Minelli but also widely associated with Frank Sinatra.

Carina Dahl performed “I Get a Kick Out of You” by Frank Sinatra and Ethel Merman. Though the song was first written for the musical Anything Goes.

Both Alexandra and Carina chose musical songs from The Greatest Showman. Eurovision 2019 star Alexandra performed “Never Enough”.

Meanwhile, Carina sang “This Is Me”. Sadly, the semi-final was where Carina’s Stjernekamp journey ended as she received the least amount of votes and was eliminated.

She should have won, her voice is fantastic, even better than studio (how she does it??) she is kind and talented, super friendly and down to earth. I am glad she is getting so much success now and attention from media!!

Alexandra is one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen, not only within the Eurovision community but also in general. And her voice is so angelic as well, one of my faves alongside Victoria (Bulgaria 2020-21)’s voice.

I wonder if the winner Bjørn Tomren might consider trying out for eurovision in 2022

She’s phenomenal. Her trophy cabinet is unfairly filling with silver.

As an Aussie I was amazed she sang You’re the Voice (not least as it is over 30 years old) and that so many in the audience were singing along. Was it a big hit in Norway?!

This is something that always amazed me. One of the most consistent singers I’ve seen in the “Eurovision universe”.

My guess is that Alexandra just missed out on the crown. Either way, she demonstrated her versatility and my god that VOICE!
