North Macedonia has famously struggled at Eurovision events over the years. However, 2019 was something of a golden year for the Balkan country. North Macedonia secured a historic seventh place finish at the main contest and came sixth at Junior Eurovision. After taking a break last year due to concerns related to the Covid-19 pandemic, the country is back again looking for Eurovision glory. Enter Dajte Muzika with “Green Forces”.
North Macedonia in Junior Eurovision 2021: Dajte Muzika “Green Forces”
Since 2013, Macedonian broadcaster MRT has used an internal selection for its Junior Eurovision entry. This year, MRT has turned to one of the most popular children’s television shows in the country, Dajte Muzika. The cast of the show have released over eighty songs, two albums and have millions of views on YouTube.
Two girls (Kristina Mukaetova and Anastasija Džabirski) and two boys (Miha Gigov and Filip Popovski) will be taking the stage in Paris. Together, they will be performing “Green Forces”. The song is written by Robert Bilbilov and Robin Zimbakov, two celebrated songwriters who have worked with the group before.
What do the “Green Forces” lyrics mean?
“Green Forces” is a dance song with deep house beats and Latin-pop influences. Lyrically, it follows a recent trend that has been present at Junior Eurovision over the last few years, and directly refers to the climate crisis.
The song opens by directly referencing environmental destruction, “The snow is black, what is happening? The Earth is sick” and global warming, “It is hot as hell, the ice is melting, the Earth is drowning”.
The chorus then spurs on the call-to-action, “We have to realise that we are doing wrong, we are the green forces so let’s take control”. “Think about it, it all depends on you, on you and me… Hurry up, you don’t have a lot of time, are you with me?” Even by the standards of songs at the Junior contest these days, the song is a lot more overt in its message.
The music video carries across this strong message. It begins with the four children dancing in a studio with flashing colours and then goes on to make a strong use of overlaying imagery. The children dance amongst wildfires and melting icecaps. Eventually, more children join them in the studio and they are overlaid with images of green fields, forests and mountains. It’s difficult to get more of an obvious environmental message, but it’s sure to resonate with it’s audience!

DON’T BE UNFAIR. VOTE FOR MACEDONIA FOR THE WIN. THEY DESERVED THAT!
i have high hopes for dajte muzika, i feel like they could land a top 5 with a good stage show
I like the song. Good Luck Macedonia !!
See, it’s one thing to do a song about climate change and make it cheesy or over dramatic. What I like about this and Germany is that they at least try and do something different while communicating the same basic message. Adult Eurovision hasn’t even totally figured that out yet (except Hatari I suppose). My top for JESC at the moment is: 1. Italy 2. Portugal 3. Ukraine 4. Albania 5. Spain 6. Georgia 7. Russia 8. France 9. Poland 10. Netherlands 11. Germany 12. North Macedonia 13. Bulgaria 14. Serbia 15. Malta (Not counting Kazakhstan yet cuz I’m waiting… Read more »
Bop! This is very good 🙂 A suprise win perhaps if this is performed well:)
this is definitely a contender to win in my opinion
Reminds me of the Netherlands 2017. All solid vocalists but all nearly the same melody. I feel like they could’ve done much more with their vocal prowess
This is really a good song. I’d say top 5 for North Macedonia this year.
