On Friday we’ll know the first 14 acts competing in Melodifestivalen 2022, but until then the rumoured acts keep coming. Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet says that rock band Lillasyster, Wiktoria’s sister Malin Christin, Idol judge Anders Bagge, singer Cornelia Jakobsdotter, and an unnamed dansband star will be part of the lineup.

Lillasyster ready to rock Melfest again

Swedish rockers Lillasyster (or Little Sister) made their Mello debut earlier this year. Now the band is said to be returning for another go in 2022.

And following MĂĄneskin’s win at Eurovision, there appears to have been a lot of rock songs submitted to Mello. Aftonbladet’s source told the paper, “There seems to have been quite a lot of rock submitted and as I understand it, there will be at least two rock acts. The most famous for Mello viewers is Lillasyster who is back again.”

Lillasyster competed earlier this year with “Pretender”. They made it to the andra chansen round where they were eliminated.

Wiktoria’s sister Malin Christin due to make her Melfest debut

Malin Christin Johansson is the big sister of three-time Melodifestivalen star Wiktoria Johansson. But now she’s stepping into the spotlight herself, performing as Malin Christin.

Malin Christin is already an established songwriter. She was one of the songwriters behind Destiny’s Eurovision 2021 hit “Je me casse”.

She’s also started to launch her career as a performer and has collaborated with other artists. Earlier this year Malin Christin also released the EP Kär i kärleken.

Swedish Idol judge Anders Bagge tipped for Melodifestivalen

He’s best known as one of the judges on Swedish Idol but now it appears Anders Bagge is ready to make his Melodifestivalen debut. This casting may come as a surprise to some. Aftonbladet’s source said, “Yes, it is true. He’s in it. I could not believe it at first when you asked, but it is actually so.”

Anders Bagge got his start as a songwriter, writing for such pop icons as Janet Jackson, J.Lo and Madonna. He was also involved with the production of Azerbaijan’s Eurovision 2010 song “Drip Drop”.

While he had avoided pursuing a performing career due to stage fright, Anders made a splash earlier this year on The Masked Singer. Performing as Sjöbjörnen (The Sea Bear), he proved himself a solid vocalist and finished fourth in the competition.

Cornelia Jakobs will make solo Melfest debut

Another artist debuting at Mello 2022 is Cornelia Jakobsdotter Samuelsson. She’s the daughter of Jakob Samuel, the frontman of Swedish glam rock legends The Poodles.

Cornelia has previously competed at Melodifestivalen 2011 and 2012 as part of superstar producer RedOne’s group Love Generation, but both times they didn’t make it out of the semi-finals. She’ll be kicking off her solo career with Melfest.

Also in the lineup will be an as yet unnamed former dansband star. The male singer has also had success performing in revues. Aftonbladet’s source says the song will be in a similar vein to Hasse Andersson’s 2015 Melfest hit “Guld och gröna skogar”

And while Idol star William Segerdahl was previously mentioned for Melfest 2022, Aftonbladet has removed him from their list. Sources say he will not be involved this year.

Melodifestivalen 2022: What we know so far

The Melodifestivalen tour is set to return in 2022. Semi-finals are due to kick off in Malmö on 5 February 2022, with the grand final due to take place at its usual home at Friends Arena in Stockholm on 12 March. The shows — which will take place in six cities and towns around Sweden — will also have a live audience.

Melfest 2022 will be hosted by Oscar Zia. The three-time Melodifestivalen contestant and one of the 2021 hosts will be the main show host this season, however he will also be joined by other stars, still to be named.

According to Aftonbladet, we already know 22 likely acts for Melodifestivalen 2022. They are Robin Bengtsson, Liamoo, Klara Hammarström, Alvaro Estrella, Angelino, Lance Hedman, John Lundvik, Malou Prytz, Theoz, Cazzi Opeia, Medina, Anna Bergendhal, Linda Bengtzing, Tenori, Niello, Faith Kakembo, Omar Rudberg, Lillasyster, Malin Christin, Anders Bagge, Cornelia Jakobs and a dansband star.

The first 14 acts of Melodifestivalen 2022 will be announced this Friday, 26 November.

What do you think? Which other artists would you like to see competing in Melfest 2022? Who should Sweden send to Turin? Tell us your thoughts below!

Anders Bagge was also one of the writers of Azerbaijan’s 2012 entry, which was maybe their best.

Pretender was SO underrated! Good luck to Wiktoria’s sister as well, I hope the talent was passed to her by her big sister..

Interesting announcements actually. Rock is definitely needed even though we swedes never let the genre end up in the top scores of the final. Anders Bagge has stage fright. That’s why he could be behind a mask singing. I wonder how he suddenly got the courage to stand in front of a big crowd. Will it work though? He’s worked with the big names including Celine Dion. I think he should sing a song he wrote himself. I’m not so sure about him making a EDM flavoured Schlager to be honest. It doesn’t suit him. Also they have room for… Read more »

Same here, her song was awesome but I think her nerves got to her sadly. She would be more experienced if she competed again

I loved her song but sadly she’s not that good of a vocalist. I watched some of her Idol performances. She was constantly pitchy and lacked breath support. Same as last year. She could be good because she has a nice tone to her voice but she would need a lot of serious work and coaching.
