Poland in Junior Eurovision 2021: Sara James with “Somebody”
Polish broadcaster TVP hosted a national selection Szansa na sukces to find its Junior Eurovision participant and song for 2021. Sara James, a musician hailing from Ośnie Lubuskie on the Poland-Germany border, won the national final on 26 September 2021.
Playing the piano since the age of 6, Sara James has been developing her vocal talents for the last four years at the Słubice Municipal Cultural Center. When not honing her talents, Sara James is showcasing them on national television, participating in the National Film Song Competition in Poznań and winning The Voice Kids Poland in early 2021. She wowed the judges with covers including Demi Lovato’s “Anyone” and “Husavik (My Home Town)”, from the film Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.
What do the “Somebody” lyrics mean?
“Somebody” is an upbeat pop track with lyrics and music by Dominik Buczkowski-Wojtaszek and Patryk Kumór (who composed both the JESC 2018 winning song “Anyone I Want to Be” and Poland’s 2020 Eurovision entry “Empires”); Tom Martin (composer of JESC 2017 winner Roxie’s follow up single “Half of My Heart”) and music producer Jan Bielecki.
The song’s lyrics talk about patience, commitment and letting those around you know that they are worth it, even when things may seem hard. “Somebody” is a song about empowerment through dark times, knowing your support network, and being there for others.

What do you think of “Somebody”? Will Poland be able to get its third victory in the Junior Contest? Let us know below.
4th year in a row Poland sends a fantastic song (yes, Poland 2020 was my personal 3rd place). I live everything aboutvthis song. My nr 2 rhis year.
Sounds kinda a mash-up of Soldiers of Love and Someone You Love, but this is actually another great entry form Poland
Italy, Ukraine Russia, and Armenia this year. Good luck to all.
Hey gurls, this song is really good and Sara’s voice it’s amazing! Good luck Poland!
I like the song but for me it’s not a winner, It is in the same style as the winning songs from Roksana W?giel and Viki Gabor, I like to hear songs in a different style and not always the same.
Poland really do know how to do Junior Eurovision right. I love her voice and stage presence, in fact she probably has one of the best voices of the competition this year so the juries are going to rank this very high. I do find the song a bit too generic though so still not certain if it’s a winner but with good staging it should come top 5 for sure, if not even higher. Good luck Poland!
This is one is my personal number 2. I Hope that Sara Slays.
Mine too!
Good luck Poland
Sarsa is the Best
It’s a nice song and she has a beautiful voice. Probably top3. I wish Poland with the same level in Eurovision…
This is a pitch perfect Eurovision production that has quite generic music. It reminds me a little of “X My Heart” (Azerbaijan 2018) from the main contest. The challenge will be to replicate the magic of the video with the magic of a live performance. Best of luck. 🙂
(See, I can take JESC seriously if I want to!)
Just to be clear: I like generic Eurovision music videos. 🙂
Definitely the best song this year
mmmmmmmh, I think Armenia, Albania, North-Macedonia, France, Italy and Russia are super strong too.
Yes they are i agree. It is a very strong Year overall but this one stands out for me. I think Georgia will do very well too.
It’s so baffling to me that Poland can win JESC twice in a row and send songs like these, but can’t send anything above average to regular ESC.
ABOVE average? That’s really optimistic xd something average would be quite refreshing
The production and her voice are great, but I don’t think it’s the winner a lot of fans seem to think it is.
Top 5 for 100 % – maybe TOP 3 …..but I don’t see this as a winner. My winner comes from Armenia or Italy this year.
Armenia is overrated. I don’t think juries find this type of song appropriate for 12 year old girl.
Finally someone agrees. The song goes literally nowhere.
Italy just might take it. Their song is original and strong. Stands out from the rest.
It’s a good song but not a winner
this feels more like a JESC theme song rather than an actual entry but i still really enjoy it and sara is probably the most charismatic performer this year
