Last week SVT revealed the first 14 acts who’ll be competing in Melodifestivalen 2022. Now it’s time to meet the second half. The Swedish broadcaster today announced the final group of acts who’ll be competing in Sweden’s Eurovision national final.

The lineup was due to be revealed on Friday, however due to an accidental early reveal on the Melodifestivalen app, SVT went ahead and published the full list two days early.

Earlier this year, SVT confirmed the dates and venues of Mello 2022, and also revealed that the shows would be hosted by Oscar Zia.

While Melodifestivalen 2022 is tasked with finding Sweden’s entry for Turin, the show is more than just a Eurovision national final. Melfest is a celebration of Swedish culture, with producers careful to select a wide range of artists and genres that reflect popular Swedish music.

Melodifestivalen 2022 – other 14 competing acts

Malou Prytz – “Bananas”

Songwriters: Alice Gernandt, Jimmy ”Joker” Thörnfeldt, Joy Deb, Linnea Deb

This is Malou’s third time in Melfest. Her best result was in 2019 where she made it to the grand final with her song “I Do Me”.

Lisa Miskovsky – “Best To Come”

Songwriters: Lisa Miskovsky, David Lindgren Zacharias

Rock singer Lisa Miskovsky first competed at Melodifestivalen 2012. She finished ninth in the grand final with her song “Why Start a Fire?”

Browsing Collection – “Face In the Crowd”

Songwriters: Carolina Karlsson, Mimi Brander, Moa Lenngren, Nora Lenngren, Sandra Bjurman, Jimmy Wahlsteen

Rock band Browsing Collection make their Melodifestivalen debut. They previously competed in P4 Nästa 2019 where they finished third.

Anna Bergendahl – “Higher Power”

Songwriters: Anna Bergendahl, Thomas G:son, Bobby Ljunggren, Erik Bernholm

The Eurovision 2010 star is making her fourth Melfest appearance. She last competed in 2020 where she placed third in the grand final with “Kingdom Come”.

Medina – “In i dimman”

Songwriters: Jimmy ”Joker” Thörnfeldt, Sami Rekik, Dino Medanhodzic, Ali Jammali

Legendary Swedish hip-hop group Medina has recently reformed and will make their comeback at Melfest. The group is made up of Sami “Sam-E” Daniel Rekik and Ali “Alibi” Jammali.

Robin Bengtsson – “Innocent Love”

Songwriters: David Lindgren Zacharias, Victor Sjöström, Victor Crone, Viktor Broberg, Sebastian Atas

Sweden’s Eurovision 2017 star will be making his fourth appearance in the contest. Robin won Mello 2017 with “I Can’t Go On” and most recently returned in 2020 with “Take a Chance”.

Tenori – “La stella”

Songwriters: Dan Sundquist, Kristian Lagerström, Marcos Ubeda, Bobby Ljunggren, Sarah Börjesson Wassberg

Swedish tenors Alexander Grove and Kalle Leander make up the duo Tenori. They will bring popera styles to their Melodifestivalen debut.

Shirley Clamp – “Let There Be Angels”

Songwriters: Mats Tärnfors, Pelle Nylén, Shirley Clamp, Jakob Skarin

Shirley Clamp makes her seven appearance in Melodifestivalen. She first debuted in 2003 and last competed in 2014 with the song “Burning Alive”.

Lancelot Hedman – “Lyckligt slut”

Songwriters: Lancelot Hedman, Niklas Carson Mattsson

Swedish reality TV star Lancelot Hedman makes his Melfest debut. He has previously released dance music as part of the duo Lance & Linton.

Tone Sekelius – “My Way”

Songwriters: Anderz Wrethov, Tone Sekelius

Tone Sekelius is a popular Swedish vlogger and make-up artist who is transgender. She previously released “One More in the Crowd”, the official song of Stockholm Pride 2017.

Alvaro Estrella – “Suave”

Songwriters: Linnea Deb, Jimmy ”Joker” Thörnfeldt, Joy Deb, Alvaro Estrella

This is Alvaro’s fourth appearance as a featured performer, but he has also performed as a dancer and backing vocalist. In 2021 he competed with “Bailá Bailá”, which finished tenth in the grand final.

Malin Christin – “Synd om dig”

Songwriters: Jonathan Lavotha, Oliver Heinänen, Malin Christin

Singer-songwriter Malin Christin is the older sister of Melfest star Wiktoria. She was also one of the songwriters behind Destiny’s Eurovision 2022 song “Je me casse”.

Angelino – “The End”

Songwriters: Angelino Markenhorn, Julie Aagaard, Melanie Wehbe, Thomas Steengaard

Newcomer Angelino Markenhorn has been working on his own music, including uploads to social media. He is said to have recently participated in a Melfest songwriting camp.

Lillasyster – “Till Our Days Are Over”

Songwriters: Jimmy Jansson, Palle Hammarlund, Ian-Paolo Lira, Martin Westerstrand

The Swedish rockers made their Mello debut earlier this year. Their song “Pretender” made it to the andra chansen round.

What is next?

The lineup of Melodifestivalen 2022 is now complete, with all 28 competing acts revealed. In coming weeks, SVT will reveal which acts will be competing in each of the four semi-finals. This can offer some clues as to what the strongest entries are considered to be.

Traditionally, the competing songs are previewed in the days prior to each semi-final.

What do you think of the Melodifestivalen 2022 lineup? Which acts are you most excited for? Who do you think will win the ticket to Rotterdam? Tell us your thoughts below!

Will it be a 3rd times a charm for Anna B? She was my favorite in 2020 and she desveres to have a 2nd try after what happened in Oslo. Best of luck to all contestants.

For years I wished Lisa Miskovsky to come back. I really like her music, so I hope she’ll bring another bit of a fresh air just like she did in 2012 when she was my 2nd fav after Loreen

I do love Melfest because as a TV show it is top- notch and at least you never get songs that are outright junk. I think that people who downgrade this selection do so because it feels safe and expected. There’s a sense you’ve heard these types of songs before and they typically fit a box you’ve seen at Melfest before. It seems Clara Klingenström‘s success last year also cleared the way for more female singer-songwriter-types—lots of ladies fill this category.

So – the odds just came in. John Lundvik and Robin Bengtsson with the lowest odds followed by Anna Bergendahl, Klara Hammarström and Omar. Anders Bagge got the highest odds.

So the rumours were real. I think the winner will be a newcomer. Can’t expect anything wow from the people that competed recently. Btw, what happened to Robin B? He looks a bit different. Plastic surgery or what?

There are a couple of returning names that bore me to death, but I see the new showrunner is trying to refresh things without alienating those who were satisfied with how Melfest has been working. There are a few rock acts (one for each heat, I suppose), opera singers, rappers, newcomers that can bring a more distinct pop sound… The question is if the audience will let them move to the next round.

im actually excited this year, most of the newcomers seem to be at least partially behind their songs and seem to be acts with their own vision and artistry which was severly lacking in recent years.

I know you all want only new names and big stars like Robyn, Laleh, Agnes but they are not interested to do it. What can they do, force them? And you cant have Mello with only new names, then people would say “where are the veterans”,no one knows these people”
SVT is trying to mix it up and we have to wait for songs until we judge…

It’s very bizarre Anna said she could not do Melfest this year since she’s been busy with her studies but here she is…and co-writer of the actual song too—which means she actually was working on a song to submit and wasn’t just asked because she was given the perfect song. With that said—given the co-writers, I have to imagine it’s going to be an amazing song and she will do well. Malou’s song title and with the songwriters attached clearly point to an Ace Wilder-type song.

People acting like other people aren’t sending fast food music is hilarious. You haven’t even heard the songs yet. There are plenty of new faces. Why is there such a negative view on Sweden?

I find it useless to judge whether a national final is worth being excited about or not until the songs are released. Therefore I am keeping a neutral opinion about Melodifestivalen until the songs are out. Although I admit I am a little bit of a hypocrite on this part because I’m really looking forward to Lithuania is national final because of the broadcaster’s investment of €54.000 to help raise the quality of the songs for 2022. I took it as a sign that Lithuania is getting seriously ambitious about Eurovision, and I hope that it’s worth it in the… Read more »

I do not understand that there is so much enthusiasm for Omar knowing that in 2017 with his group they had finished penultimate, and in 2019 all alone, entry elimination .. John and Robin, finished 5th according to their year of victory and despite the fact that we can expect a pop song from them, I think it will always be effective! Omar is not good at live …
happy with the return of Anna and Malou and I hope that some new ones will stand out !!!

They probably expect major acts like Zara Larsson, Abba or Agnes to join. Thing is – they are not interested. People are so tired of Sweden doing well that they are constantly looking for flaws to calm themselves.

Now that the line-up is completed and revealed, when the first odds for Melfest will appear? We have already some odds for Eurovision 2022 so it will arrive quickly for the Melfest I guess. I know most of people here don’t like the odds for Eurovision but it is a part of the fun for me, mainly when they are wrong 😉

It seems to me that Melodifestivalen is a tv product which either no letting the fresh and interesting artists to participate. Obviously many artists they would not want to participate but I see on YouTube so much interesting contemporary talent and we stuck with artists such as Robin Bentsson or Malory or Shirley Clamp which is tv singers and liked but middle class moms. Have they seen what type of artists get good results in the last few years? Obviously many of them participate to promote themselves and their new songs and they don’t want to win Eurovision. Always the same singers and the same writers. I loved Melodifestivalen from 2011 to 2016 but now it’s boring. The people working at SVT and choosing the songs are unable to question themselves.
I hope something different from what we’ve heard for years will surprise us but I’m not too confident about that.

Exactly! Total meh! Same old same old. Where are the fresh interesting artists of the Swedish scene???? I think Sweden started repeated a lot themselves like Ireland in 00s and Greece in10s and that’s why their results are going downwards

Going downwards? Two wins, five top 5, one top 10 finish. Only this year with Tusse can be seen as bad and even he reached 14th which is decent

Yeah, I wouldn’t worry too much about Sweden yet. One time placing outside of the top 10 isn’t the first sign that a country is going downhill. It’ll probably just be a one off slip and Sweden will be hitting another top 10 position next year for sure depending on what wins melfest 2022. Now, if Sweden fails to make the top 10 again in eurovision 2022, Or has a weak selection of songs, that’s when it’s time to worry. But ultimately, I think Sweden will be fine.

I could enjoy the fact that indeed half the contestants are new comers. But the other half is still too much for me. 3 ex winners and 2 of them are from really recent edition.
It’s the same for Eesti Laul but at least Estonia tries a lot of different musical genres.

Over half of the acts this year are returning acts which is cool, but I would like to see one year where it is more heavily weighted towards newcomers. Only because some of these people have been here 3-4 times already and I’m not saying that is bad, but seeing people come several times in a row (especially after their other songs were just average) and not explore more genre and artists can get a bit tiring

She’s the only one suitable for it really but she closed SF1 and SF2 respectively in 2019 and 2020 so I’m not sure they’d give her the spot again unless her song screams winner.
The only other potential act IMO is LIAMOO.
