Giudi Jezinky ESCZ 2022

All will be revealed at 20:30 CET tonight, Thursday 16 December, when both the ESCZ and Eurovision YouTube channels will premier the winning song in the Czech Republic’s national final. Until then, let’s find out who your favourites are in ESCZ 2022.

Shortly after the seven entries were first revealed, we asked you the all important question — Who should win ESCZ 2022? You voted en masse, and after counting a total of 3,474 votes we can reveal that Giudi’s “Jezinky” is your top pick.

Giudi is your favourite to win ESCZ 2022 with”Jezinky”

The ethereal songstress hoovered up a huge chunk of the vote. Her tally of 1,128 ballots meant she was just shy of taking on third of all the votes cast. Our Renske is a fan. Here’s what she wrote in her Wiwi Jury review:

““This is something else. At times, it is more a performance or an experience rather than a song. However, these types of entries have recently fared well at the contest, showing out-of-the-box thinking and progressivism. Although perhaps less accessible to the commercial market, it is possibly the most futuristic entry in the Czech national final combining the current popular spoken word art with Czech folklore. If a song as complicated as “SHUM” can deliver at Eurovision, then “Jezinky” definitely stands a good chance too”.

In second place we have We Are Domi with “Lights Off”. They’re a long way behind Giudi, although their 796 votes are not to be sniffed at — they stil amassed 22.91%, just under a quarter, of all votes cast. Here’s our Natalie’s verdict:

The only word I can use for this is magical. Sure the lyrics could probably be crisper. Sure the vocals seem a bit messy sometimes. But, the production is flawless. Maybe I’m just a sucker for this kind of music, but I never get tired of replaying this song. It feels dramatic and ethereal from start to finish, and it matches its message completely. I wish they pushed it further, added in some more effects to keep it moving, but this is golden Europop stuff, and I would love to see this representing the Czech Republic. Damn, this country can produce.

ANNABELLE takes bronze with “Runnin’ Out Of Freakin’ Time”. She managed 510 votes here, but proved to be number one with the Wiwi Jury. Lucy wrote: “Bringing pop-punk to the contest is Annabelle, really honing in on that Olivia Rodrigo popularity. One could be concerned it comes across as too obvious a choice, but Annabelle has her own individuality putting across a message of anxiety about success at her age, to an anthemic melody. To me, this is pop perfection. Fabulous work, Annabelle.”

Poll results: Who should win ESCZ 2022

  1. Giudi – “Jezinky” 1,128 votes 32.47%
  2. Domi – “Lights Off” 796 votes 22.91%
  3. ANNABELLE – “Runnin’ Out of Freakin’ Time” 510 votes 14.68%
  4. Jordan Haj x Emma Smetana – “By Now” 373 votes 10.74%
  5. Elis Mraz – “Imma Be” 351 votes 10.10%
  6. The Valentines – “Stay or Go” 207 votes 5.96%

Jezinky or Lights Off should win. Those two songs have a good chance to qualify at ESC. The rest not so much.

Imma Be would possibly struggle but Elis has nice stage presence, it’s fun and different from what we usually get at ESC, so who knows, it could work but it’s so-so.

Running Out of Fricking Time is weak, reminds me of UK entries.

Stay or Go and By Now have problem with performers’ anticharisma (and Jordan’s singing is pretty bad).

Way Down is outright terrible in almost every aspect.

I woke up expecting to see the czech winner this morning, but I didn’t realize that it’s gonna be announced later at 8:30 Prague time (my country doesn’t do 24 hour time so we just subtract 12 for p.m.). I guess I have to wait about five more hours as of the time of this post.

Whoever they pick, it’ll be better than Bulgaria

Even the weakest song in the selection is better than Bulgaria’s pick. Bulgaria dropped the ball this year

Every song in ESCZ, 16/20 songs from Eesti laul and over a half of FiK would be higher than Bulgaria on my personal list.

Guidi’s song is my favorite, but I have a feeling that the local televote will likely pick the most famous duo (Jordan & Emma), while the juries will likely pick something more mainstream (Annabelle or We Are Domi). The winner will likely be among these four, but my hunch tells me it’s Lights Off or Running Out of F. Time. In any case, Czechia will have something solid to proudly stand by.

I actually voted for lights off for the online vote, so I would be very happy if that song won. I know that if Jasinsky isn’t chosen, the fandom could throw a tantrum, but honestly I saw more drawbacks with that song than positives. But, we’ll see.

I won’t make a tantrum no matter what. My lowest rating in ESCZ is 7/10, so I don’t see a scenario in which they pick something weak. All songs have their pluses. Lights Off is a really cool tune.

Czechia always selects the most random choice. So it will be neither Giudy nor Domi

It’s funny how a lot of people forgot the selections of 2019 and 2020. Lake Malawi but mainly Benny Cristo were not the favorite to win so be careful when you say: “This one has more views on Youtube” or “This one won the poll” it’s not a clear indication especially with the vote system used by the Czech Republic.

They changed the voting calculation this year. Votes from Czech fans account only for 25% of the final score!!! 50% is international jury and 25% international fans who voted through the app/website.

What’s even funnier is that both Lake Malawi and Benny Cristo actually WERE very clear favorites to win (the Czech televote at least) from the very moment they and their songs were revealed. Some eurofans simply decided to not pay attention to it. This year it’s less predictable since the Czech televote makes only 25% of the result. If it was 50% as in previous years, Emma and Jordan would have been the most probable winners. They are best known, their song is most popular, often played by Czech radios, supported by many local influencers etc. But like this, I… Read more »

Honestly the race is pretty open. The international voters will most certainly have Jezinky as number one, but we don’t know what the Czech audience will prefer (perhaps the popularity of each contestant will also play a part) and we have absolutely no clue what the juries will go for. We could be in for a surprise when the song gets announced. Can’t wait!

Just one thing To remember, most of us will not have our favourite song win, that’s just fact, so to kind of lessen the blow. try saying something positive about every song, I’ll start. Way down- The music video where they’re really small and angry is genuinely really funny Stay or go- It’s just a love song but then they pull out the “in the cage of the postmodern age” also very fun. Imma be- Rapping is an underused medium in esc. very fun lyrics. By now- I like the line “living in a house that ain’t no home”. the… Read more »

I’d honestly be fine with all of them. Still don’t know what to think about jezinky. It really is flop or top and I can’t predict what it would do at eurovision. My own favorites are annabelle and jordan & emma.

I love how Elis got over 3 times as more votes as Skywalker and nearly double what The Valentines got yet she’s last.
