Picture: Diana Ankudinova

She rose to fame in Russia during the second season of the NTV children’s talent competition Ty super! And this year she won the final of the all-star NTV show Showmaskgoon. But despite her success, Diana Ankudinova has told her fans that she is not going to Eurovision 2022 — even if rumours suggest otherwise.

Gossip web site Super.ru claimed that 18-year-old Diana was in contention to represent her country at Eurovision 2022 in Turin.

Ahead of the Eurovision 2021 selection, the site shared a five-act shortlist of people it said would compete in Russia’s national final, citing internal sources. In the end, two out of those five names made it to the three-act national final.

However, the starlet herself has now denied any involvement in the contest…and brushed off the suggestion that she hails from Azerbaijan.

Taking to her Instagram, Diana sarcastically wrote underneath a Reel: “What news! With astonishment I found out that I am not only going to Eurovision, but that I am also an Azeri. Everybody is asking for my comments, but I myself am searching for someone who can explain it all to me!”

Russia at Eurovision 2022

Public broadcaster VGTRK has been less than transparent about the way it will select their Eurovision entry, prompting a storm of rumours in recent weeks.

Earlier, Dream Team leader Philipp Kirkorov told RIA Novosti that his team was preparing an act for a country at Eurovision. Following that, rumours pointed in the direction of him potentially mentoring Alexander Panayotov or Klava Koka for Russia. Panayotov has since denied preparing for Eurovision, although he is still eager to participate.

It is currently unknown whether Russia’s second channel will have a national final or internally select its act. The last time this broadcaster held a national final was in 2012. But experience from last year has shown us that the Russian broadcasters can quickly change their minds and organise a selection show within just a few days.

Who do you want to see representing Russia at Eurovision 2022 in Turin? Who do you think might have a chance of going? Let us know in the comments down below!

Being a popular singer in Russia must be a torture because they will be constantly hounded with Eurovision-related questions.

At this point Klava Koka seems the most possible , and followed by Zivert and Olga Buzova
I don’t consider Sergey Lazarev possibility , i hope he stays away

Zivert will not represent Russia in 2022. She’ll be touring in Germany by the time Eurovision takes place.

I’d choose Sergey only if he had an entry in Russian and if it wasn’t Kirkorov’d or Kontopoulo’d.

Exactly 😀 I’d choose everyone only if he had an entry that wasn’t Kirkorov’d or Kontopoulo’d 😀

It is highly unlikely that VGTRK would choose an NTV personality. I don’t think they will organize a national selection either, however after two successful choices of their rival (Channel One selected Little Big and Manizha) they are likely to come up with a strong act. If they are lazy and don’t want to spend much money, they will delegate the responsibility to choose an act to Philipp Kirkorov.

Personally I’d like Russia to have a national final once again, but with more acts than just three!
