Romania received a total of 94 entries for Selectia Nationala 2022. And now broadcaster TVR has released the 46 songs still in the race.
The 46 acts will compete in the two-part semi-final, due to be held in February. For the first stage of the semi-final, the music videos of the semi-finalist songs have been posted online. The expert jury will vote to select the first 15 acts to pass to the next stage. A public vote on the Romanian Eurovision Facebook page will be used to select five more acts, making a total of 20.
“The Eurovision Romania team is preparing the filming of the songs, so that at the beginning of February you can see the artists performing them live and vote for your favorites,” they write on their Facebook page. “The top five in the public vote will go further in the contest…Good luck to everyone!”
The second stage of the semi-final will involve a live show held on 12 February 2022. The 20 semi-finalists will perform their songs live. The performances will be voted on by the jury alone with no televote. The top ten placed acts will then progress to the grand final.
The grand final of Selecția Națională 2022 will be held on 5 March 2022. The ten finalists will perform their songs live and the winner will be decided by a combination of jury vote and public SMS votes. Viewers are only able to vote for each entry once per phone number.
And then Romania will have decided who’ll be travelling to Turin in May for Eurovision 2022.

Also, yeah, I know that likes are only one of the aspects of likability, and that there are far more reliable aggregator lists. I just wanted to give some update, okay? 😉
I do not have the patience to listen to the songs. But we need to send a strong voice that has experience on the stage. Also someone that has nothing to lose nor to demonstrate. Send Dora Gaitanovici – Ana.
What I want to say is, don’t look to the songs, songs flop no matter that at some point they seem good, instead focus on sending an artist and you won’t be wrong. Don’t send returning artists, give them only one try, is enough.
Yes, your disgust is normal, but what about Michael Jackson, who is dead?! 🙂 Ours are at least alive, so they have a quality after all 🙂 🙂 🙂
1)Alina Amon – Without you 2)Cezar Ouatu – For everyone 3)Roberta Maria Popa – Indigo 4)WRS – Llamame 5)Miryam – Top of the rainbow 6)Andra Oproiu – Younique 7)Alexa – Hoodies and cold nights 8)Gabriel Basco – One night 9)Dan Helciug – 241 10)ANA – Youngster 11)VANU – Never give up 12)Eliza G – The other half of me 13)Andrea Stocchino – Avere paura 14)Stelian – Remember 15)Andrei Petrus – Take me 16)Seeya – Save me 17)ARIS – Do Svidaniya 18)Othello – You’re worthy 19)Sophia – Beautiful lies 20)PETRA – Ireligios 21)Bogdan Dumitras – Sign 22)E-an-na – Malere 23)MØISE –… Read more »
Was the song Embers in some other national selection because I think that I have heard it before?
There are a few songs that I like: Malere, Doina, Avere paura. Llamame und Hypnotized.
Scrap the whole thing and send Time Time
a risky choice, don’t you think?
The only song that grabbed my attention is Doina. Love this ethnic drop.
I am obsessed with Romania Mea.. ethnic BOP
46 different songs and none of them seem good enough to qualify. That’s next-level…
It’s tragic, more so after having Roxen 🙁
I’m Romanian and I agree with you very much.
Absolutely! I think only 3 or 4 are maybe good enough! What a mess 🙁
Ireligios is underrated.
Why have a national selection with 46 entries competing in semifinals, when none of them sounds even good for a final? Ugh.
Because something is better than nothing, don’t be so picky, because the alternative is worse: Romania to not participate
I’m waiting for the lives but for now my favs are WRS – Llamame and Aris – Do svidaniya !
I think Cesar’s For everyone can be see like “everything or nothing “, if this win it’s can be high or just flop very badly.
I’m not so sure yet!
Good luck, ROmania!
I like Do Svidaniya, but the refrain sounds nearly identical to Salt by Ava Max :/
Stop promoting that no-name out of nowhere. ARIS is awesome and she is winning this.
As I said, I do like this song. However, the similarities are undeniable, and suspicions of plagiarism had resulted in songs getting disqualified before. I’m not saying that it’s certainly going to happen, but it’s worth noting.
The biggest quality of the song is that it is Russianphobic
On first glance, I agree with Kosey: Out of 46 songs, there’s staggeringly little diversity! The Spanish selection has more diversity among only 14 of them. Overall, it’s not a strong selection by any means, but it has its good entries. My favorites here are likely Aldo Blaga, Andrei Petrus, and Vanu. Blaga has an outstanding voice, and this conventional, but good ballad does shine in his interpretation. Vanu’s song has amazing lyrics, and if he can bring that raw emotion on stage, this could be the one to watch. Among too many piano ballads, I think that Andrei’s is… Read more »
If they have only received 94 songs, why not immediately pick just 10 for a final? Can’t be that hard from such a small selection, and I can’t imagine this bunch of songs will get Romanian viewers excited to watch and vote. I just watched the recap and there where very few that managed to get me interested for a full listen. Without a thorough revamp of the woefully poor production levels, most of these don’t stand a chance in hell of qualifying.
WRS and ARIS are my fav
But…what I can say?
Cherry Red from 2020 was really SOMETHING from our country…
Even “Alcohol You” and “Amnesia” were special
Which two songwriters Una (though I could guess)
There is something off with Romania. Probably its the broadcaster that managed to make a powerhouse in eurovision to a country that produces average/forgetable entries. All these songs sound similar even though they are different genres… They need to change the team
Bulgaria is the new Romania and vice versa, haha
There are far too many piano ballads and disco songs, but if you would take the best three out of each, they’d stand out more. It’s simple – on average, the less of something there is, the more it stands out. I am fairly sure that even some weak ”bangers” will qualify to the semis here, because they still pop-up more next to so many boring or average ballads.
It is not a bad selection as most of you are saying. I do have some favourites:
Malere and Regret are great !
Multumesc (Thank you)
Lost for words.
Sadly most of the songs are generic, unoriginal and too typical mainstream ESC. I miss more original, interesting and daring songs. There are a few good expections. Let’s hope they go for something outstanding which will give them a chance to qualify
Malere is no mainstream. sorry….
I sacrificed my ears listening to all of these. Were they composed by the same person, factory, bakery? Such a mess, could not even pick a single favorite. Sad year for Romania.
but if you starving for seven days maybe you will be able afterward to sallow at least one cookie from „the same bakery” 🙂
I don ‘t like most of the songs but Andrea Stocchino – “Avere paura” is my favorite.
It´s sung in Italian ?
I like it, too
I is in Italian because the singer is an Italian woman
Andrea is a man 🙂
I feel sorry for Romania. In 2018 the public strangely picked The Humans as the winners over Feli. In 2019 an international jury was brought in that picked Ester Peony over Laura Bretan. And in 2020 ‘Alcohol You’ never got to compete. Feli, Laura Bretan and Roxen with ‘Alcohol You’ all had potential to give Romania top results. Instead they’ve had three non-qualifications in a row.
I agree with you, and my personal favourite was Bella Santiago. But nevertheless, I believe Laura Bretan was top 10 material.
Laura Bretan was toilet break material, that boring song didn’t go anywhere.
Absolutely ! I don´t need this homophobic and bigot girl at ESC…
A lot of the songs in English have such terrible and childish lyrics (especially “Ambers”, wrote by Suedes). Why ? Only because it seems to have international appeal ?
Come on, Romania. You definitely have the oppurtunity to choose better !
Of course “Malere” – this could be great on stage und bring back the dignity to Romania after so many cheap entries….
The irony of it all is that I like the only song who was not going to be permitted to compete, go for the win E-an-na or else Romania can forget the finals this year
No Romania at the Grand Final of Torino 2022. Sorry to say
I am a bit frustrated. When publicizing 46 songs in a selection, there is an opportunity to be really diverse but we have about 25 entries which are essentially the same song. If I hear another gentle piano opening I think I might throw my phone out of the window. Perhaps the other songs were much the same but at least use the opportunity to put in something quirky, offbeat or even an under-represented genre. Otherwise, just pick your favorite heart-wrenching piano ballad and 80s infused dance track (or maybe 2 or 3 of each if you must but please… Read more »
my god.
National finals don’t work for Romania , internal selections don’t work either. Also , bringing their best result performers back doesn’t work.
What this country has to do
The right decision could be to cancel the national final and to send “Malere” directly to Turin.
Bring more diverse songs, THAT’S ALL!! 😀
Roxen was pretty good, she just had a pretty meh song for the extremely competitive year. And she was even better in 2020. They need to go back to the 2020 system.
That’s what I think, “Alcohol You” was special and appealing
Gabriel Basco has a voice just like Shawn Mendes! His song One Night sounds good as well. I don’t know if anyone feel the same way that I do.
Number 8 in My Top 46
Just finished listening to every entry and I feel underwhelmed. I think it would’ve been a better idea to make a NF with the only 5-6 entries that have quality instead of this unnecessarily long route with many entries sounding a lot more like demos rather than songs themselves xd
I liked up to 10 songs but rn I only remember E-an-na’s and WRS’ entries among the ones I liked
I love :
But for Eurovision, I prefer VANU, Cream/Minodora/Diana Bucsa or ARIS !!
Wow that’s a lot of songs. I listened through the list and there were a lot of songs inspired by past decades. So many of them sounded like they were just demos. Like there was something little off or unfinished in the production.
There were a few that got stuck in my head: All this love, România mea and Llamame.
I really liked ANA’s youngster. Her voice is so unique and the song is pretty too.
I have to get back to this selection when they have less songs in the final.
there’s one positive for forcing myself to listen to all of them: it’s a great preparation for MGP songs in 10th january when they’ll release all the songs (only difference is that i expect norway to have tons more quality). this selection was a mistake. everything blends in smh, many sound like demos, im not even sure if i’d call some of these songs. clearly 5-6 songs have potential so why not make a kinda stronger NF just with these and instead force people to listen to all of these?
missing the roxen days already
MGP under Stig Karlsen has not been that impressing.
Norway hasn’t had an outstanding NF for quite a while, though
It’s safe to say Romania won’t win this year with those songs..
If I had to choose one i would take Romania mea to torino.
It is like a mockery of the country’s anthem, so false patriotic and so cheap musically…
Hoo boy, have we got a lot of songs to go through. And I thought Lithuania was infamous for having too many songs in their selection. To be honest, I have only watched a recap video featuring snippets from all 46 songs, and there’s just too much for me to process and a lot of songs just blend together. I might have a better feel once the songs are cut down to just 20, but still it’s too many. The only thing certain about Romania is that they are not a contender to win Eurovision, but I don’t know if… Read more »
I didnt know Promises by Calvin Harris was competing in Romania! (ARIS)
I mean…. Not a single song with a potential…. Amnesia was my favorite last year. I expected a lot more. Such a disappointment ?
Horrific. Not even Moldovans would vote for this.
Indeed, and they’re usually way more accessible (votes wise) than Romania’s own diaspora in Italy, Spain and the UK
It took a loooong time, but I let them playing on the background while doing stuff and these caught my attention for different reasons. ANA, “Youngster” – Loved her voice and the song is very pleasant, this one can become something if paired with the right producer. ARIS, “Do Svidanyia” – I imagine the fandom will embrace this one, but would probably face intense competition on its alley in Turin and would need something big with staging to separate from the pack. Ciro de Luca, “Imperdonabile” – Another song that has potential, but desperately needs a producer. The background track… Read more »
For those saying that it’s a bad selection or that it’s not at the level of Roxen’s songs, come on guys don’t abuse firstly there’s potential, at least 10 out of 46 songs are good, secondly it’s not even the final line up, in the final there will be only 10 songs so wait until the final then to say if it’s a bad or a good selection, thirdly Roxen has represented her country in 2020 and 2021, we are in 2022, so don’t live in the past guys, and don’t start to compare the acts of 2021 with those… Read more »
If you don’t want to wade through all 46 songs in full, just watch this recap: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lX8JF5xBUL4
I feel bad I incentived you to do a playlist with the Romanian songs, but I couldn’t imagine TVR would release all the entries just a couple of days later!
To be fair, they actually made a playlist of all the songs too, so I don’t have to do it https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxO8-C91Lp904771aYwWhyZkEKQ1rl8qa
ARIS – “Do Svidaniya” pre-chorus sounds really familiar to another song. I can hum it in my head but I can’t think of the title.
Promises by Sam Smith & Calvin Harris. I said it before
Yeah, that is exactly it! The only lyric I could remember is when the female vocalist sings “Tonight.” It was bothering me all day after I left this comment.
At least it’s a break from Fuego or Euphoria (perish the thought)
Very bad national selection. If you haven’t listened to the songs I only recommend you to listen to ARIS – Do Svidaniya and E-an-na – Malere as those songs are only songs which have potential and which sound catchy.
Top of the Rainbow starts and I just… was that just a remixed version of Into the Hall of the Mountain King? Is that allowed?
I think pre 1900s music is allowed because it’s in the public domain and can’t be copyrighted
Well that is an interesting question actually. Like Azaad says, Into the Hall of the Mountain King is probably in the public domain, so according to copyright laws that would be allowed. However, I think that Eurovision rules state that a song must be completely original. Go_A had to change SHUM as well since it was originally partly based on a Ukrainian folk melody, which most likely was not copyrighted either. Sampling is also allowed in music (if you pay for it), but not in Eurovision.
I think you can have folk/classical melodies in there if it’s sufficiently transformed enough. Part of 1944 was based on a Crimean Tatar lullaby but because Jamala modified it it was deemed sufficiently transformed so as to not violate the rules.
