Ukraine’s Vidbir 2022: Reported Artists
Wellboy
Perhaps the hottest name on the list is Wellboy. He scored one of the largest local hits of 2021 with “Husy” (“Geese”). Wellboy had been rumoured for some time and according to MUZVAR, he is indeed in the mix. It is likely that the former X Factor participant will bring another original piece to contest. His current music style combines countryside kitsch with rap and alternative pop.
Alina Pash
Alina Pash — another hot name — will definitely bring some flair to the contest. The Carpathian-born “Bitanga” hitmaker has been high on fan wishlists for several years. Alongside Wellboy, Alina Pash was one of the young Ukrainian artists to appear on the Tina Karol collaboration album Молода кров (Young blood). Alina recently released the single “Івана Купала”, which is 2:25 minutes long.
Michael Soul
Vidbir 2022 will potentially get a guest from Belarus as Michael Soul has entered the selection. The Belarusian singer has worked from Kyiv since 2021. Eurovision fans might remember him from his attempts to represent his country of birth. In 2019, he was a local fan favourite with the Vlad Freimann-produced (that’s Vlad from VAL) song “Humanize”, but eventually came fourth. He has previously sang as a backing vocalist for NAVIBAND at the contest in 2017.
Cloudless
Cloudless participated in Vidbir 2020 with “Drown Me Down”, narrowly missing out on a place in the final.
Eria
Meanwhile, Eurovision enthusiast ERIA has not been silent about her song. She has submitted “Mavka”, which she recently teased in a folk-style video. In 2018, she participated in the national final under the pseudonym VILNA with “Forest Song”.
Sofia Ivanko
MUZVAR has also reported that Junior Eurovision 2019 star Sofia Ivanko has sent in an entry. According to the music blog, TikTok star and Junior Eurovision 2015 entrant Anna Trincher had rejected the possibility of sending in an entry after having been invited by Suspilne.
SOWA
Young singer SOWA, whose name means “owl”, is an upcoming artist from Ukraine who is set to release her first album this Spring. In 2021, she collaborated with Eurovision 2018 star Mélovin on the single “Таємний знак”.
Uliana Royce
Mariupol-born influencer and singer Uliana Royce started her musical career in 2018. In 2020, she was among the laurates of YUNA Junior, one of the most prestigious award for young Ukrainian pop talent.
ROXOLANA
Former Holos krainy star ROXOLANA is signed to the Mamamusic label. Although she has yet to break through to the mainstream, ROXOLANA has collaborated with the likes of KAZKA and Nina Matvienko.
Who would you like to see participate in Ukraine’s new Vidbir and see represent the country at Eurovision 2022 in Turin? Let us know in the comments down below!
The summation period is over and 284 entries have been submitted. Well, the broadcaster now has two weeks to narrow that down to just eight or 10 entrants By January 24, so good luck
Ingret, Laud and Kalush (Ihor from Go_A is member of this band btw) confirmed their participation today
even Kalush? omg~
If Alina Pash will bring something like her Bosokarnya, I am all for it. https://youtu.be/lFFCbN49jG0
ULIANA ROYCE would be the best option and I am from Ukraine. No scandals, interesting music style (inspired by k-pop btw), Ukrainian language. Too bad there are no videos here. Alina Pash has a great music as well, but politics would not get her far. A lof of new names here
While I have no doubt we could get a talented lineup, I am a little concerned that the broadcaster is only giving itself two weeks (the deadline is January 10th and the artist announcement is on the 24th) to really sort through all the submissions and do the extra legwork of background checks to make sure they weed out contestants that have performed in Russia after the Crimean invasion in 2014. The last time Vidbir was held, the submission process ran from October 16 through December 25, 2019, and the selected artists were announced on January 20, about a month… Read more »
It’s so bad that Trincher rejected to submit an entry to Vidbir! I hope she’ll do so in the future! 😀
dunno~ she’s too young and inexperienced 4 me.
I want Kazka
they already said they will return next year in Vidbir
Oleksandra is not a good vocalist live and the backing trios who do a lot of their bridges are much better live. However, since the backing singers aren’t considered part of Kazka officially I’d feel uncomfortable about them not being credited as part of the act despite the fact that they’d do a lot of the heavy lifting at Eurovision.
Kazka have some great songs but Oleksandra’s voice lacks power. She has good pitch and diction but production frequently overpowers her live vocals.
there are not that good live
Laud, Eria, Alina Pash, Claudless, Wellboy, Roxlana and Michael Soul artists I most interested in for now, can’t wait to hear their entries
Would like to clarify, “Holos krainy”, which ROXOLANA took part in, is Ukrainian version of The Voice, probably the most popular singing competition in the country. However she didn’t go too far there and left during the knockouts
I want to see and hear Eria …..her teaser sounds promissing.
It wouldn’t be Vidbir without a bunch of ALL CAPS names, right? Joke aside, very excited about it, Ukraine has one of my favorite national selections. Alina and Wellboy sound interesting and Eria had one of my favorite entries a few years ago.
I hope Eria will present something worthy to send from one of the most exciting Eurovision nations ?
STOP DA CAP~ (lol)
Some very good singers and known names but it is sad that Anna Trincher rejected the invitation …..because she would be a real highlight. Whatever ….that lineup sounds good.
Wellboy and Alina Pash sounds very interesting…
i am so excited for alina pash, i’ve listened to her music for years
Sophia Ivanko is great. I have very high hopes for her entry!!
the song she submitted is already released on her YouTubechannel, its called ‘Casino ‘ and it’s kinda strange I would say
casino is exactly what people who don’t like eurovision think eurovision is like
it is great actually
Wellboy seems really cool, I wouldn’t mind seeing him at Vidbir.
thankfully, it seems like the broadcaster/format change didn’t turn off the talents of ukraine from participating. they’ve come a looong way since their messy, scandal-ridden early 2010s selections.
The fact that Ukraine have managed a 100% qualification rate despite how messy their broadcaster can be about handling participation is honestly something to be applauded. It’s chaotic but always good.
chaotic? u mean ICONIC? ;P
That’s a miracle that Ukraine has maintained 100% qualification rate when there could’ve been times they could have pick the wrong song. Let’s hope that this streak does not break this year.
that field will be cut to 8 if my infos are right – that means, that a lot of good acts from this list can not participate.
for the go_a (&krut) ethnic pop way standing eria and alina pash – i would prefer this way but ukraine is the ukraine…
there will 10 finalists, it’s what our brodcaster said
Suspilne said 10 finalists will be selected
sounds better, but ukraine should let the cat out of the bag soon.
the teaser from eria gives the impression that she is in but maybe not?
hmmm
There is few a very interesting names, im very curious about Sowa, Alina Pash, Michael Soul and Laud songs
Omg! Cloudless is come back yes! hello Yuri 😉
Alina Pash, Eria Michael Soul, Roxolana and Laud I love to see them in lineup
And where is Tayanna, and here is total silence, not after I heard about her potential participation and how she gave points at Eurovision, so be it, on the official list of participants I keep my fingers crossed for a good song in Ukrainian
as I heard she haven’t confirmed her participation yet like others artists, but before in few interviews she said she wants to come back to Vidbir and go to Eurovision, so there is still hope
She confirmed that she was invited to take part but eventually rejected, so maybe next year 🙂
the list looks very promising, also Laud is probably will participate too, I can’t wait to hear Alina’ and Wellboy’ entries I think one of them will win Vidbir, though it could be a surprise winner
there must be a very strong competition
Wellboy and Pash seem like the only serious contenders right now, but that can change.
Dude, it’s Ukraine. Don’t underestimate them
