Dozens of budding singers from around the world did their best at the audiences. But in the end, only 66 acts have made it to the next stage of Una voce per San Marino. Broadcaster SMRTV has announced the names of the emerging artists who have made it to the next stage of San Marino’s new national final Una voce per San Marino.

The list is made up of 60 international artists and six Sammarinese acts. They will compete in the upcoming semi-finals of the emerging artists section.

National final stars feature among semi-finalists

There are no former Eurovision stars on the list, however a few familiar faces from previous national finals have made the cut.

After missing out on the ESCZ 2022, Czech singer Elis Mraz (aka Eliska Mrázová) is looking for a second chance with San Marino. The German singer Sebastian Schmidt also made the list — he is the only returning act from San Marino’s 2018 national final 1IN360.

Another act to have made the list is OXA, the Brazilian-born German singer. OXA came to fame on the German edition of the X Factor, but was also one of the songwriters behind Elena Tsagrinou’s sizzling Eurovision 2021 song “El diablo”. Another X Factor alum is Kurt Cassar, who made it to Judges Houses on the first series of the X Factor Malta.

The Portuguese singer João Paulo (who is performing as a duet with Miguel was part of the Festival da Canção 2017 act Viva La Diva. The popera group won the grand final televote and came very close to being Portugal’s act for Eurovision 2017.

The list of semi-finalists is dominated by acts from neighbouring Italy. The list also includes six acts from San Marino who will compete in their own semi-final.

Among the acts who missed out on the semi-finals were 1IN360 runner-up Sara de Blue, who had auditioned as a duo with the  jazz-pop singer Jack Marsina. Also missing out was the  Italian comedy heavy metal group Nanowar of Steel and the Swedish twin sister singer-songwriters Ylva & Linda.

San Marino’s new national final

The shortlisted Emerging Artists will compete in four semi-finals from 13 to 16 February. The acts will perform a cover of a well known song and present their choice of unreleased song. The top three acts in each semi will progress to the Emerging Artists final.

There’ll also be a second chance contest on 17 February for the acts who finished in fifth to eighth place in each semi. The 15 qualifiers will compete in the Emerging Artists final on 18 February.

From there, the nine qualifying Emerging Artists will compete alongside nine Established Artists in the grand final of Una voce per San Marino on 19 January. The Established Artists won’t have to audition and will be directly invited to compete. In the grand final, acts will perform their potential Eurovision song.

The winner, second and third places will be selected by an expert jury alone.

It’s crazy that the top 3 go into the final and only places 5-8 go into the Second Chance! Those who place 4th lose out!!

And in your article it says the grand final is 19 January but it must surely be 19 Feb?

Heck, beyond just the emphasis on Italian performers, they really seem to be taking pains to ensure that there’s a significant Sammarinese presence. My big gripe with 1in360 was that it felt like a reality show where the prize was going to Eurovision, and San Marino happened to be the country you could go for. It didn’t feel like a national final where you go to Eurovision FOR a country – like, if you compete in Melfest, you specifically want to represent Sweden. It just felt like going for San Marino was arbitrary. They could’ve just as easily said they… Read more »

It’s very interesting that she just turned tail and took “Imma Be” to San Marino with no one batting an eye. No rules against it or anything.

Elena Faggi participated in Sanremo Giovani last year with “Che ne so”. I love that song! I’m looking forward to hear her song. <3

I would like to know who are the established artists and why there is this distinction with the emerging artists? Established according to what?

already established artists will be announced in the next few days. They are called “Big” because they have a musical following I think, maybe someone who has already been to Eurovision too.

It’s better described as “Was invited” and “Applied”. fame isn’t really the qualification here

I have the weirdest gut feeling that one of them will be Miodio. Generally, I feel like they’ve got to have some connection to San Marino (maybe?) and be a little more established than the newcomers, although I believe several of the newcomers also competed in 1in360 (Basti was the only one to make it through). Interestingly, one of the videos Gisele Abramoff posted was her chatting with IROL, who wasn’t listed among the auditioners and strikes me as being a little more established in San Marino. He wasn’t listed in the Sammarinese semi-finalist round…supposing he’s another invited artist?

I hope San Marino consider getting you to read out their jury points this year, you deserve it. Maybe Senhit will start a petition.

DUDE. That is my ONE DREAM. Yes, I would love to be part of a delegation. Yes, I would love to have some level of involvement in how Eurovision was run. But bare minimum, PLEASE let me fly to San Marino just to announce their twelve points. I could die happy.

Gutted for Cassidy Civet and guessing Nanowar of Steel didn’t progress either.

okay but there’s an explaination for this. artists are required to pay for their own stay while in san marino. ofc they accepted as many as possible in an attempt to boost the local economy lmao.

I’ve got a gut feeling that 70% of them will be mediocre at best.

My winner of Moldovan selection in 2018, and a musician I follow since. I’d be happy if he gets to the stage of having his original song in San Marino.

They overcompensate last year with that number of acts. It can’t end well in the end

San Marino have got some special plans this year. Reading the above, it’s harsh if you finish in 4th place – The first three acts go through and 5th to 8th place get a second chance, so really bad luck to finish 4th. And then after perhaps the most convoluted process ever, the finalists get to travel back in time to January to compete in the final – this is gonner be 1 helluva ride!

Never underestimate a small country. They may not have a huge fan base and diaspora to boost their votes but more often than not they have things no other country has. In this case a time travel machine. And that’s more impressive.
