Following a year off, Moldova’s Eurovision selection is back, now called Selecția Națională. A 30 strong longlist dropped late on Monday evening. And, despite the presence of Eurovision veterans Zdob și Zdub, everyone was talking just one name — Misscatylove. Yet, by Tuesday morning the mysterious newcomer was out of the running.
Moldova’s Selecția Națională 2022 longlist
Moldovan broadcaster TRM published all the longlisted entries on the eurovision.md portal. Zdob și Zdub are easily the biggest names on the list. They represented the country in both 2005 and 2011, finishing sixth and 12th respectively. Other familiar national final names include LEMONIQUE, Maxim Zavidia and Dianna Rotaru.

Live auditions will take place before a jury on Saturday 29 January. The broadcaster will assess whether all entries meet contest requirements before then. Once the auditions have wrapped, the powers that be will determine whether a national final will be held or not. If they opt not to have a standalone final, the winner of the auditions will represent Moldova at Eurovision 2022.
Who is Misscatylove?
The original longlist quickly went from 30 to 29, as Misscatylove was removed from the official portal within hours of the songs being uploaded. In that brief time, the eccentric performer had grabbed a lot of attention with their unusual post-avantgarde sound.
Some speculated that the broadcaster may have disqualified “Intro” due to its apparent lack of vocals. To quote Natalia Gordienko’s “Sugar”, the song possessed a certain “crazy energy”. In fact, most won’t hear anything except static when they hit play. However, those with a keen ear claim that there are some vocals present, albeit they are extremely, extremely, extremely, extremely distorted. Listen to the clip below and judge for yourself.
On Misscatylove’s Discord server, the non-binary artist says that they withdrew for personal reasons, adding that they would not be able to travel from Manchester to the auditions in time. Misscatylove has later added that they are working on a song for the 2023 selection, titled “Outro”. The song will feature the line “your love is fading away like an outro of a song”, and will include lyrics in Romanian, as confirmed by the singer themself.
TRM has not commented at the time of writing.

Nooooo!!! ‘Intro’ is such a good song. That was BY FAR the best song in this national selection. It’s way too good to end up in an iceberg on the r/Eurovision subreddit and not on the big stage in Torino smh. If it was up to me, I’d just cancel the whole thing and internally select Natalia the Meme Queen again for some more shooga shooga.

I quite like the noise in intro. But dont there have to be some vocals to be accepted for Eurovision? I have yet to listen to the rest, but I can imagine the quality based on the amount of Swedish songwriters. I think I’d prefer the intro noise. No dream team pls.

Misscatylove’s entry was way too avant-garde for the Eurovision stage. ‘INTRO’ is a song made for the alt-techno underground nightclubs of Berlin, not for Eurovision.
I’m sure we’ll see much more of Misscatylove in the future. Her determination to skip Junior Eurovision and go straight to Eurovision shows her courage and determination. I’ve never witnessed such raw artistry from such a young artist before!

Well … now that I’ve listened to the song, I’m devastated. I never thought a mixture of Zdob si Zdub and balkan brass folklore could possibly bore me, but it did. Hopefully they’ll revamp it in time and infuse it with a little more rock or punk.
Lot of familiar faces in here – hopefully some have improved their live performances from previous years/efforts. If TRM are expecting the act to finance it all themselves im expecting it to be Zdob is Zdub as can’t sense “The dream team” in any of these songs and not sure the others have the finance to do it?

I don’t understand why there was so much enthusiasm for the one who retired (misscatylove) because personally, I don’t like this song at all and it’s really too weird of a song. There is much better in this selection I believe!! I can’t wait to see the live streams, to see those who will make it and who will be serious for the victory!!

A couple of takes from what is already my fave NF this season XD Miss Catylove’s entry is so bizarre, and I’m honestly sad she won’t get to troll TRM at the auditions. WHO let that song enter the selection?! It’s really, REALLY funny. I absolutely despise Zdob si Zdub’s entry, and I HATE the fact that it actually has quite a big chance to win because the song is quite popular in the region, and this is a super-weak selection. Katy Rain Lele my opinion very good song ,a potencjaln represent Moldova in Turin it is surprising that Romania rejected such a good song.
I’m just absolutely distraught that we just lost the best song of the national final season. I was already thinking of Chisinau 2023. Thankfully, I have no doubt that “Outro” will slay Selectia Nationala next year. Post-avantgarde belongs in Eurovision!

Last time we went to Baku it was with a terrible, cheesy song and a middle school play kind of staging. So when it comes to “going to Baku” its probably a matter of how much money does Baku willing to spend to win. Nothing to do with the artist or the song.
Azerbaijan could spend 0 dollars and misscatylove would still win with a total of 998 points or above
