From around 20 acts initially, Austria has slowly been whittling its Eurovision 2022 internal selection down to four, then three, and now two. Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung is reporting that duo ANGER and DJ LUM!X are the final two acts in the running to represent the country in Turin this May.

The report comes after Austria’s Eurovision scout, Eberhard Forcher, gave descriptive teasers of the then four remaining acts in the country’s Eurovision 2022 internal selection whilst speaking to wiwibloggs in November 2021.

How well do these acts match the teasers? Almost perfectly!

ANGER and LUM!X in the running to represent Austria at Eurovision 2022

ANGER are a a duo comprised of Nora Pider und Julian Angerer. They originally come from Brixen in South Tyrol, Italy, and have known each other since they were teenagers. The duo now live in Vienna and released their debut album Heart / Break in 2019. ANGER won the FM4 Award at the Amadeus Austrian Music Awards in 2020.

This all matches up pretty well with the first act Eberhard Forcher teased to wiwibloggs in November:

“An electronic duo with origins in southern Tyrol” that lives in Vienna. They have  a “very distinctive sound.”

ANGER’s proposed song for Eurovision 2022 is reported to be titled “Das Meer” (“The Sea”).

LUM!X, full name Luca Michlmayr, is only 20 years old, but the young DJ has already achieved a lot. His songs have racked up over 1 billion streams, making him one of the fastest-rising stars in the dance and electronic scene. LUM!X’s biggest hit to date is “Monster”, which has already been certified 4x platinum and 7x gold.

Again, this corresponds very well to the fourth act Eberhard Forcher described in his interview with wiwibloggs:

A young, male DJ-producer with a young female singer. “This guy is the most successful Austrian DJ act ever” with like 80 million Spotify followers and videos with 180 million YouTube clicks.

The name of the young female singer who would perform with LUM!X hasn’t been revealed. However, their song title is reported to be “Halo”.

The final decision on who will represent Austria at Eurovision 2022 is set to be taken in the near future.

Whoever it ends up being, we know they’ll be performing in the second half of semi-final one on 10 May in Turin.

What do you make of the reports? Do you want to see either ANGER or LUM!X represent Austria at Eurovision 2022? Let us know in the comments below!

No DELADAP? Disappointed.

I don’t want to see another DJ in Eurovision, it’s a confirmed flop as we’ve seen in so many cases before.

Austria should have done an online voting to decide on the entry

I agree that if they’re still undecided, they should hold an online voting session or something, but having a DJ isn’t necessarily a flop

I think we need more news about countries that can actually reach the final such as Azerbaijan, I wonder what amazing they have for us this year?

Interesting choices! I’m glad they’re making an effort. Eberhard seemed quite enthusiastic in the interview, I believe he has good intentions and really cares about Austria’s fate in Eurovision. Personally, I am more excited about ANGER’s entry. And I absolutely love German language, so a song in German would be my dream come true! I am already excited about the fact that Dutch song this year is supposed to be in Dutch. Having German in the competition would be amazing – we need to see more less popular languages! DJs usually don’t do so well in Eurovision – I guess… Read more »

Both have a potential to do greatly at ESC, and I liked what I heard from both acts. For now, ANGER strikes me more and it’d be lovely if they sung in German

I find Anger very off-putting for the moment. Their name, their whole style shouts “Euro-trash”. Maybe their song will change my mind, but for now, I say go with the DJ.

Not feeling either of these options from what I’ve heard, but I’ll hope they’ve brought something stronger.

And in a few days, we will hear the original Eurovision songs they have been assigned to. I have expressed this before that this aspect worries me. What if the songs aren’t good?

he has 10.9 million monthly listeners… the 80 million followers figure is completely made up lmfao it was his total spotify plays at the time. he has since earned a big hit with thunder so the number is way up.

I’m more excited about ANGER, but it will all come down to the song. Judging by the title, ANGER’s song will likely be in German, which is exciting. I might be mistaken, but I think “Woki mit dem Popo” was actually the last fully German song we had at Eurovision, so it’d be nice to have a new one this year.

I quite liked “Elba” btw, so I wouldn’t mind it if they sang in Italian either.

Looking good in both cases for Austria, it’s promising. After being the esc winner 7 years ago, the jury winner 4 years ago, and twice in a row non qualified in the 2 last contests, I feel they want to come back in the game. Watching the Hod interview last year, I understand that it’s hard for him to attract austrian artists in this esc world, but he does a very good job you can say that he is very involved and want to do well, not always the case of all Hods, moreover he is alone he has not… Read more »

I guess that for this year yes, it’s what I’ve understood from his interview, but even if he is not he is the man working hard for Austria in esc, and the man behind everything that is esc related from Austria, so it’s the same.

Eberhard Forcher is “esc-scout” for ORF, he is not HoD and never was.

I’m mostly just curious how LUM!X’s genre can be well translated to the stage. A looooot of DJ’s try and fail, with a few gems like JOWST.

Of these two, ANGER strikes me as the one with more going on potentially. Plus, it’d be a cute kind of homecoming if they went to Italy.
