One is a Eurovision alum reaching a top ten placing at Eurovision in 2017. The other is a punk-pop newcomer destined to make her mark on the Australian music scene. Today, Isaiah Firebrace and Evie Irie have released their duet and entry for Australia Decides 2022, titled “When I’m With You”.

“When I’m With You” is a collaboration journey between the pair, from what started as a chance encounter in a music studio. Blending Evie’s edgy tones with Isaiah’s smooth dulcet vocals, the song combines pop, punk, and rap fairly flawlessly. With both Isaiah and Evie enjoying a chance to bond, the pair have used their new-found friendship to not only explore their musicality, most recently jumping out of a plane to celebrate the upcoming release of the song. Talk about taking a promotional tour to the next level!

Evie said about the process: “When Isaiah and his team asked me to do Eurovision with this random wonderful song called, When I’m With You, that we had such a great time writing together, I was seriously shook. I never EVER thought I’d have the chance to play at Eurovision and I just can’t say no to Isaiah.”

The duo wrote the song together alongside song producer and songwriter Taka Perry.

Speaking about the song, both said:

“We are super stoked that “When I’m With You” is out today!!! We have been waiting to release this song for almost a year now and it’s surreal that people are finally going to hear it after all this time. Neither one of us could have imagined that a random day in the studio together would turn into the chance to go all the way to Italy for Eurovision 2022, and would take us on this wild journey together.”

Isaiah and Evie Irie join other entrants, pop newcomer Charley, the fabulous Seann Miley Moore, Perth’s metal quintet Voyager, singer-songwriter Jude York, avant-garde performance artist Sheldon Riley, six-piece girl group  G-NAT!ON, charismatic pop star Andrew Lambrou, powerhouse entertainer PAULINI, Tiktok wildcard Erica Padilla and multi-media artist Jaguar Jonze. Eurovision – Australia Decides 2022 airs on February 26 on SBS.

The first half of the song is pretty bad, the second half is quite OK.

The instrumentation of the first verse is rubbish, else the song is good. But as someone wrote before, this would fit perfectly into every radio rotation, but not necessarily to the ESC.

The song is rubbish, but since when Isaiah is so hot? That haircut in 2017 really did him dirty.

I didn’t expect that.I expected more… But it’s not bad, very radio friendly, but I can’t see it at ESC.

Very ok song – with a potential to come alive when performed live.

I “like” the song, its very commercial, but commercial doesn’t always equate to eurovision bait.

Gutted, I thought Isaiah would have had a better song. I liked his last couple singles.

Sounds like something from 2000s. Not as good as some people think.
