Latvia are continuing on their path to selecting a representative for Eurovision 2022. The semi-final of their selection show Supernova 2022 has now been completed, with ten of the 17 competing acts making it through to next week’s grand final.

These ten acts were: Citi Zēni, Linda Rušeniece, Elīna Gluzunova, RAUM, Mēs Jūs Mīlam, Miks Galvanovskis, Aminata, Bermudu Divstūris, BUJĀNS and Inspo.

The Supernova 2022 semi-final result was determined by a 50/50 split between the scores of a professional jury and the votes from the public at home.

Eurovision 2015 star Aminata was not present in the studio following a positive Covid-19 test. She performed her entry via video link from home.

Supernova 2022 Semi-Final Qualifiers

Citi Zēni – “Eat Your Salad”

Linda Rušeniece – “Pay My Own Bills”

Elīna Gluzunova – “Es pabiju tur”

RAUM – “Plans”

Mēs Jūs Mīlam – “Rich Itch”

Miks Galvanovskis – “I’m Just a Sinner”

Aminata – “I’m Letting You Go”

Bermudu Divstūris – “Bad”

BUJĀNS – “He, She, You & Me”

Inspo – “A Happy Place”

Supernova 2022 Semi-Final Non-Qualifiers

The Supernova 2022 semi-final was hosted by Ketija Šēnberga and Lauris Reiniks. Lauris represented Latvia at Eurovision in 2003 as part of F.L.Y., singing “Hello From Mars”.

The ten qualifiers will now head to the grand final next Saturday 12 February. There, Latvia will select its representative for Eurovision 2022 in Turin this May.

I’m usually not a big fan of ballads in Eurovision, with a few exceptions. Aminata’s ballad might be such an exception. It made a big impression on me hearing it for the first time. Would like to see her in Turin!

finally, a very good Latvian selection (but it’s going to be like in 2019 where they’re going to choose the worst song)… I’m talking about the Bujans. I hope the jury will shoot them because if they put them forward, we know that the televote will then do its job and they will win and that would be a big mistake!! my favorites are in order: 1. Aminata (very good voice, she can work miracles in Turin I say!!) 2. Citi Zeni (the song is so fun it’s so good!! I think the live is perfect and they meet the… Read more »

And which of the non-qualifiers, in your mind, would have worked the magic and qualified in Eurovision?

There’s just…too many joke acts here.
I mean, I can appreciate a good joke act but this many? And it’s not like there’s an abundance of quality to balance that out. So many of my favourites got eliminated.

Honestly, part of me hopes Aminata wins just because of how AWESOME she was in performing her song from home instead of sending in her music video. What a queen.

Aminata has an amazing voice but her song is such a downgrade from ‘Love Injected’.

So sad to see Mik Dukurs eliminated, I honestly think his voice and his classic rock ballad were more than enough to get him through. There are a lot of irrelevant qualifiers.

On the other hand, I’m glad to see Inspo and RAUM qualifying. Inspo must win this edition!! Pure emotion and nostalgia, she has a very special voice.

And both “A Happy Place” and “Plans” are songs I would listen even if they weren’t related to Eurovision. Something that don’t happen that much tbh…

Bermudu has really interesting voice but the somg didn’t justify it. What a waste.

I though performance was hilarious, considering the trashiness of the lyrics. It almost looked like Classy/Sassy trash and I sort of can’t stop watching it ha

If you enjoy the voices, you’d be surprised to know that both mains singers of the band already represented Latvia in Eurovision once as Musiqq

WOW! What a great show i just watched! TBH I was amazed how great all the songs turned to live performances! Latvia delivered a great variety of styles, a lot of promising newcomers and veterans. BUJANS – my only big NO! Pls Latvia be wise! RICH ICH is my new song du jour 😀

why do people like the salad song?? it’s such a 2000s joke entry, just a big no. now how the song contest is developing towards quality we get songs like that. I am kind of disappointed with this year already.

I am with you on this one. Everyone is trashing ‘Bad’ but at least they just want to get drunk and high and want to be with her tonight. Citi Zeni go straight for p…y/salad

Just for the fact, Bujans won the televoting with more than 16%, while 3 other acts share nearly the same amount of points with about 11% including Citi Zeni. I know what happened in Spain, but I genuinely want jury to tank Bujans in the final. Latvians have lost their mind.

I hope that won’t be the case in the Final. Sejans looked completely lost on the stage. Looked liked he either forgot moves or his trousers were to big and looked completely baffled as to what is going on! If it wouldn’t be for Busulis, it would be a complete disaster.

There is a reason why they brought back the juries (there was no jury vote in 2020) – to make sure BUJANS or Bermudu Divsturis don’t win. Both of those actas are viewer magnets, I bet viewing figures were higher than ever for Supernova.

Aminata, if you’re reading this (one can always hope), please give this song another revamp! It could be sooooo magical. The potential is there and it’s really close but ultimately it falls flat. It needs more ear candy sprinkled throughout and a bigger climax. The last chorus needs a new melodic line. It shouldn’t come back down so fast and it sounds like when you decide to give up on something midway of doing it. I wish I could have been in the studio when they were making this song. It’s incredible but unfinished. You either go for a haunting… Read more »

I agree. Aminata, it has great potential, but not without a solid revamp. It just needs something that takes it put of flatness. The slowness works well in the song, but quite early on it’s just repeat and repeat. Pleeeease – just 2-3 cuts will do it justice.

By the expression in Markus Riva’s face during the qualifiers announcement, I guess he may be over with his Eurovision dream. He was REALLY upset. But the truth is that he didn’t deserved, his song was arguably the least interesting in the competition.

It was a fun show, I feel I made the right choice to stick with this one tonight. We still don’t know how much Aminata can elevate her song on a proper stage (though with the flu and from her living room, she was already impressive), which will keep the mistery about who will win. “Eat Your Salad” was highly entertaining, INSPOO was even lovelier than on the studio version and RAUM and Linda were fun to watch. I believe The COCO’NUTS also deserved to qualify. And then there was Beatrise’s case: great vocals, good song, but the lack of… Read more »

If someone wants to know – Busulis (Bujans) is more popular between local Russians than Markus, that’s why he was so high. Also, Bermudu divsturis songs were played in January antiv*x protests, so they really support them.

This could still be a year with a LOT of returning artists. Aminata stands a good chance of winning this, any number of acts (particularly Elina) could come back for Estonia, Mahmood is a not unlikely comeback for Italy, Ieva is a favorite in Lithuania…normally I’m reluctant to embrace acts coming back versus giving new artists a chance, but they all happen to have very good songs so I’m not complaining if they do.

Elinas new song is indifferent and the staging was awful. Girl deserves much better.

And now watch this comment gettting downvoted, even if she hurt herself in that MESS for a performance lol.

Aminata is incredible, her voice is fantastic but her song is boring with a weak melody that will probably fail to qualify. No televoter is going to pick up the phone for that.
Id prefer her not to go to Turin than see her failing to qualify because shes an incredible artist and 2015 was amazing.

Aminata was fantastic. Performing like that while sick is very impressive. Unfortunately, her song isn’t nearly as strong as her 2015 entry, and I don’t think it would stand out much in Turin. Citi Zeni would absolutely stand out, and I think they would have a pretty great shot at qualifiying if the jury doesn’t completely destroy them (which they quite likely might). If we go for fun, jokey- entries, Eat Your Sallad is far more entertaining than the mess from Moldova. They might get in eachother’s way tho, as they’re both in the same half of the same semi.

So thrilled that RAUM and Inspo made it through. Pop-punk is severely underepresented this season and RAUM does it really well. And Inspo was so dark and lovely, and the last 30 seconds is so unexpected and wonderful.

Patriks had a questionable live and many expected a staging similar to his music video. Instead, he wad just walking by on stage, doing nothing remarkable and his singing was not his best. I understand his NQ.
On the other hand Elina was classy, the only song in Latvian on the selection, and backed by a well known composer. It had all on her favour (even though she was one of the least voted when the pre-results came in).
There’s still hope to send something remarkable from Latvia!
