Oh it’s ’bout to get lit in Serbia. On March 2 and 3 Serbia’s “A Song for Eurovision 22” kicks off in Belgrade. And now fans can sink their teeth into the 36 songs in contention for Turin.
Among the 36 competing acts are iconic Serbian performers Aleksandar Vuksanović (aka Aca Lukas) with “Oskar”, Ana Stanić with “Put bez povratka”, Goca Tražan with “Fitilj” and the DJ Gramophonedzie who has “Počinjem da ludim”.
The contest also includes “Molitva” backing singer Sanja Bogosavljević who will sing “Priđi mi” (Approach Me), and ex Moje 3 member Sara Jo. She will sing “Muškarčina/Zabranjeno voće”, which tantalisingly translates as “Manly Man/Forbidden Fruit”.
Like recent editions of Beovizija, Song for Eurovision ‘22 will involve two semi-finals and a grand final. The live shows will be held on consecutive nights from 3 March to 5 March.

Just listened to all songs finally and theres about 10 standouts and my favorite at the moment is Marija Miki? – “Ljubav me inspiriše”.
Sara Jo is freaking amazing. She is rocking that 9/8 beat and adding dark mystery with her sexy voice. Loving it. Great production on that track.
Second take on the selection – It’s still on a middling side as a whole, but some songs have grew on me. I love how RTS gave a platform to many artists to show their songs, even if there is a lot of uncompetitive stuff in here. However, if someone was happy for discovering these songs, it was worth it. Most of it is of low impact for me personally, and I find some songs to have awful lyrics. But that might just be me. Acts I find most competitive, for the reason of composition, hook, writing, or staging potential,… Read more »
Zorja
Honestly, who can top Hu-Hu-Hu-Hurricane ?! This year’s songs are…meh!
Love Dusan Svilar. Is the song any good? No one seems to be talking about Tijana coming back. No banger this year. Give me a powerful Balkan ballad. Any such songs around I can listen to?
For me it’s gonna be between Angellina, Zorja and Sara. Origami is good and catchy, the production is on point, the drop is sick, but it’s gonna need a great stagging to stand out. Zorja is the balkan balade i always need, if they manage to boost the production it’s gonna be great with a good staging. Muskarcina is probably the one with the biggest potential but also the one that needs the most work to reach that potential. They need to elevate the dynamic, bring an epic moment that would allow the song to shine. It’s already different and… Read more »
I’m not that hyped about the song selections. I guess I had to high expectations but on a second and third listening the only potential has Sara Jo so far. It has some “taken by a stranger meets siren song” vibe. with a great staging (and she is all about the show) this could surprise not only in serbias selection but also in Turin. Not fangirling, but this has my support.
Am I the only one who finds those ethnic voices in Zorja’s song super loud? Anyway, I like Vasco’s song the most, I already have it on my replay. I prefer Angellina over Zorja, but both songs would do well at Eurovision.
My vote goes to KONSTRAKTA… supersubversive, almost trolling, cynical, critical over superficial obsession with how we look and about celebs (it starts with “What is the secret of Megan Markle’s beautiful hair…”)… and quite avantgarde in general… on the other hand, Zorja is a beautiful, sincere song… we will see…
I need to say only one song impressed me – Zorja – should win! Serbia used to have stronger selection. Do not want to be rude, Its nice to have Serbian lang here but people hated Melodifestivalen – and now after listening Songs from Serbia, Malta or Romania – i can not see better quality than in Sweden – but i still wishing good luck to artists. Zorja has the best song here.
Thanks for – 😉
I was so confused by the complaints about Sara Jo’s lyrics until I realized that people had mistranslated ‘carsija’ as market instead of town centre/square. William’s comments finally make sense. To paraphrase and buid upon Deca Sa Stepenica’s translation/explanation: This is not a song about being on a look out for a man. I even read a few comments criticizing her for singing about going to the market with an intention to get/buy herself a man… The people from her town are accusing her of witchcraft because she seduced ‘Muskarcina’ (macho or alpha male in Serbian) but for all she… Read more »
This, thank you!! To me, this song sounds exactly as it is describing some more historical or conservative context, where an extravagant/different woman is almost compared to a witchcraft. It’s a taboo to be one or to be with one. The town is gossiping (and she doesn’t care). To me, the ‘macho man’ also sounds like she’s being ironic. The guy wants her, wants the ‘forbidden fruit’, but he doesn’t want to make it public because of ‘what will people think’. So she teases him ‘wow that’s my macho guy’. He is macho when he is taking her to Eden… Read more »
Are you saying that lyrically this song plays with elements of “folklore” and “old Serbian literature”, which gives the “historical reference?” Can you be more explicit with what parts of the lyrics have elements of folklore, and than the old Serbian literature? Not sure about that. However, I do think the song has potential. I’ve listened to it this morning once again, and it sounded better than yesterday (guess I was overwhelmed by so many songs.) One of the things that came to my mind is that I wish that the culmination of the song lasts longer. Also, the part… Read more »
The song is not a clear reference to anything, but indeed elements are used. From the folklore, the witchcraft is very prominent. Even today, in small villages, it is sometimes believed that certain women cast spell on men or use witchcraft. It is not uncommon for the village to gossip about that when some relationship is unconventional (and especially if the woman is the unconventional one). And for the literature. Serbian literature of 19th and early 20th century actually explores quite heavily the topic of feminism. Especially the relation of A Woman and The Society. There are a few really… Read more »
I understood the lyrics, but I found the usage of ”muškarcina” awkward to begin with. It used to be a brag term for self-proclaimed ”alpha males” in the past, but nowadays, you only hear it ironically. Thus, I found it off that she either unironically brags about having ”an alpha” all for herself, or alternatively, mocks the guy she simultaneously wants to seduce. Either way, it felt ”cheap”. However, with the historic / traditional context in mind, it makes sense a lot more. If this is about a woman owning her status as a local seductress, while pushing her lover… Read more »

Where is Jelena Karleusa when you need her???
Boris Subotic, Angellina, Zorja, Sara Jo and Lift are my favorites !!
I wouldn’t mind seeing one of these people win!
.
Maybe the comments here prepared me for worst and the fact I don’t understand the lyrics made me more lenient, but I don’t think this selection is that bad. Though 36 is clearly too much, especially since just a handful of them do something different to separate from the pack.
Zorja’s “Zorja” (probably the first time I’ve listened to a song named with its own performer’s name) and Marija Mikic’s “Ljubav me inspirise” are my favorites so far. According to the translation provided by escfan, the first has decent lyrics, hopefully the same applies to the 2nd.
“Zorja’s “Zorja” (probably the first time I’ve listened to a song named with its own performer’s name)” You are forgetting Alabama Watchdog. I guess it’s a self-defense mechanism that blocked it from your memory. 😉
I guess you’re right and my brain was defending myself haha In any case, it’s quite rare. I wonder if Zorja’s “Zorja” will be a track on her album “Zorja”.
It is always like that with RTS, they offer chance for small artists to represent themselves to wider audience, accent is not so much on competition. There are few favourites which are popular and focus is on them, but it is early to say anything know before live performances.
This makes sense. I’ve noticed that most lyric videos had basically a similar amount of views, but a few of them had 4, 5 times more, in Sara Jo’s case, 10 times more views. It’s good that less known artists have an opportunity to show their music in TV. My only question is if with a little less songs (let’s say 24, having 2 semis with 12 contestants), the attention they would get would be much bigger, even if less artists would benefit from it. In any case, this was not like the Romanian selection, where more than a half… Read more »
A huge part of my overall dissatisfaction with this selection goes on cringe lyrical content (I mean, someone made me think twice on Sara Jo, but some of the others are indeffensible), and the fact that I often don’t like this popular Balkan blend of pop and turbofolk. I agree, though, that they all sound more professionally made than many of the Romanian ones (I think that over half might be an overestimation, but around a quarter at least sound demo-ish). Serbian entries all sound like songs released on a radio / some kind of studio platform.
I won’t dare revisiting the Romanian selection to count them, but the amount of half-baked demos there was huge. My point is that it wasn’t a fun activity to listen to the songs from there (there were, of course, enough exceptions to provide a reasonably sized national final), while with the Serbian ones it was pleasant to do it, even if most songs got lost in the background of the other things I was doing, for being so similar in style and level. By the way, based on the reactions here it seems “Origami” is another song that can win,… Read more »
I wouldn’t say that Origami’s lyrics are its strongest trait. The song is fully, unappologetically about s.e.x., and uses some, let’s say unusual metaphors to do it. The repeated chorus is: ”bend my body, bend origami”. One of the lyrics is: ”and we are terrible and gamorous”. Some rhyming feels out of nowhere. 🙂 It could be fun, but I feel like even Sugar used more sophisticated vocabular to describe the deed (there, I said it). 😉
PS. But some songs are much worse than that. Origami at least feels honest and forward in what it goes for.
Based on your description, they can have a lot of fun in terms of staging then. Especially if Angellina can be as flexible as Chanel to “bend like an origami”. 😀
The cool part is definitely that all three main favorites (Muškarcina, Zorja, Origami) can have visually memorable performances and stagings if done right. Since the date of this selection is rather late, I’ll probably be able to watch the transmission in the full.
Every year we see so much hate towards Serbia and other Balkan countries and low places on betting odds but almost every year Serbia qualifies even with low points from jury especially with ethno vibe songs. Like every year Serbia is going to qualify for the Grand Final this year for sure and either with Sara, Zorja or Angellina can reach decent place. Eurovision fandom is small and these comments are just disrespectful and can not change the mind of 180M auditorium in Europe and Australia. Serbia, good luck.
I don’t understand why Albania and Macedonia are so low at odds, especially Ronela is great.
Ronela is low because Albania’s record with English revamps is weak to be charitable, and Sekret will be bilingual in Turin.
Albania is low no matter if it’s in english or in albanian.
Why so much negativity?
Hater’s frustrations.
The way y’all were hyping Tanxuquieras because they sang a traditional song but now when Zorja sings the most ethnic balkan ballad I’ve ever heard from Serbia, yall in the comment section dont like it haha! The jokes write themselves! Zorja for Serbia 2022!!!
Shoutout to William and Cinan who appreciate the song and understand its potential!
Just because she sings ethnic song it doesn’t mean it’s good. Tanxu had an AMAZING song. Zorja’s song is not as good. What’s your point here?
Just because you don’t like it, doesn’t mean its not good lol! The song is actual probably Serbias best song in a while!
Great point.
If you think this is Serbia’s best then you’re clueless. Check out Serbian music, they’re mega power in Ex-Yu music wise. They have great music industry.
Tedd I am literally from the Balkans, I listened to Serbian music every day growing up and even today, so I know what their music is like, and when I said Serbias best – I meant out of their Eurovision songs, not in general!
Agree. The only good thing about that song is “ethnic singing bits” at the beginning and in the chorus, remove that and what’s left? A mediocre song.
Sara Jo is the best.
Im sorry but Zorja, Goca and Sara Jo are the best!
I like Marija Miki? – “Ljubav me inspiriše” (Love Inspires Me)
I like most Bojana Maškovi? – “Dama
Gramophonedzie did not disappoint
So many songs and nothing interesting?? How??
My choice would be Boris Subotic: Vrati mi – a powerful Balkan ballad that gives me goosebumps.
I felt like Srdan maybe had something that staging could possibly salvage? I’m not really sure I see anything that makes the final.
Disappointing selection, not gonna lie.
I am absolutely loving Hey Mr Tambour…., I mean Hey Mr DJ
Zorja’s song is literally the only one worth listening to.
Sara Jo’s song is pure trash, lyrically and musically, just like most of the others. The remaining ones are snooze fest.
Sara’s song has potential, but it needs a MASSIVE clean-up and some captivating staging. It sounds like an epic song wanting to break through, but it never really does. But hey, Hurricane revamped their song like twice between release and the actual NF, so she might still change things around.
What Sara’s song needs is a MASSIVE lyrical clean-up. Instrumentally, it’s actually interesting. It’s not your typical pop or folk entry of local market, and props for that. If I didn’t understand the lyrics, I’d probably like it.
Yeah! I actually liked the beat but the lyrics need a redo, it can have a nice buildup that way
Lyrics are great ?
I meant without question mark, lyrics are great 😀
The lyrics are good. What’s the issue?
Zoe Kida for the win. Amazing finale of the song, would pick up so many jury votes with that voice and music.
It could end up 10-15 in the finals. All other songs would be most 15-25 in the final or nq.
Marija Mikic will probably be chosen. A Balkan ballad is part of the ritual of Eurovision.
Nice song.
Angellina is the best choice
Konstrakta – In Corpore Sano, only this song could help us <3
For me it shows that thé girls of Hurricane are probably the best artist of Serbia. There are really good songs (as always in Serbia) but for me this is not Hurricane’s level. I hope they will come back to represent Serbia again.
Three of them are literally one of the worst and cheapest artists. lol
Anyone with any tiny bit of musical education knows that.
As a foreigner I really love their songs. It’s such a clubsong style that we don’t have a lot un western countries. It’s not because you see three girls dancing on a dynamic song so it means that the song is bad… Society must evolute, the world isn’t about ballad and little pop… Music is much more than that, you can have an amazing song even if it doesn’t deliver a strong message. We all have different taste and I understand that, but Hurricane girls are for me really talented ! They always produce great music and I’m glad Eurovision… Read more »
I like it when some people become overconfident and think they’re actually smart. If you were educated, you would have not written this comment in such a way. In addition, you probably lack basic music education as the things you are saying just do not make sense. However, thank you for making me laugh.
Just trying to give a intelligent answer. We’re here to debate and share our opinions respectfully. Sorry for not having that “amazing musical education”. But I guess if Hurricane was that bad, the girls wouldn’t have finished in the top 15, they would have ended up in the bottom 10… Anyway, we all have different music taste but no need to be disrespectful and haughty.
Hurricane are great, but not the best artists in Serbia, it’s funny how they were hated last year and now they are the best artists in Serbia lol
Actually there are better artists than RTS allows to compete (or ones who choose or want to compete at the selection for Eurovision), as RTS usually only allows those they have a relationship with, including many of the same singers and acts that have competed before.
Since you like the more energetic songs you’d probably like this new one by
MC Stojan and Breskvica It is several times better than any of the 36 current songs competing:

My ears are bleeding.
Albanians frustrations
Take some pills grandpa, hate is not good for health.
Some of y’all are lucky you don’t understand the lyrics to some of the songs, cause if you did… XD
are we talking about sara’s song or… XD
Sara Jo is the only one with complete and ready production.
Coby is on the best producers in the Balkans, great talent.
Yikes, I honestly didn’t like any of them
Zorja top 5 material
Lol no
Probably biggest downgrade from all National Selections this year. 36 songs and absolutely nothing to offer. Extremely underwhelming and boring. Nothing that stands out. I don’t know which of these songs couldn’t even qualify. This year contest must be super weak to see Serbia in the Final again. 🙁
So many songs, and yet, only few are potential qualifiers.. Angelina sounds exactly like Hurricane and I don’t really want another song from Serbia like that…
My favourite so far is Zoe Kida ? The song really brings out goosebumps and with decent staging it has a really nice chance to be in top 5. Girl singing sounds like she has real power in her voice..
And about Zorja.. There was so much hype about her and to be honest I was expecting way more. The song is just messy at best, great voice though, but it isn’t nowhere enough.
Zorja , Angellina or Sara Jo for Serbia’22 ?
These songs are great when you’re in Serbia, sitting in one of their kafanas, drinking rakia, but that’s about it. 0 eurovision potential.
I’m sorry
Any reason for saying sorry when you’re not?
Expert for eurovision potential, these songs are not for kafanas lol
A lot of the lyrical content from this selection gives the lower quarter of MESC a run for its money. 😉
As always, if you want direct translation from your favorites / those you are most curious about, I’m offering my services.
So far, I like the songs of Zorja, Igor, Boris, and Dušan the most. Zorja’s feels special, and I can understand the Nina Kraljic comparisons. I still have about ten songs to go through, and this is perhaps only my first impression.
Brate, I would pay you not to translate those sound trash. I hope Dora gives us higher quality after the car crashes in Serbia and Macedonia.
I also hope that Dora is better. Sadly, I’m not impressed by the Serbian selection as a whole, even if there are a few solid songs. The percenatge is not big, though. There are some good artists in Dora, but then again, a few good ones didn’t being their A-game in PzE either. Hopefully, HRT has learned something since last year’s selection was an upgrade over the previous two.
Can you tell me what Marija Mikic’s song is about, Colin? Judging by the title, I guess it’s self-explanatory that it’s a love song, but are the lyrics fine?
Ljubav me inspiriše (Love inspires me) Love inspires me Love leads me forward But don’t forget You are not mine anymore You have nothing to do with that Where I go, where I spend my nights Or with whom Let me go, because I just… Let me go forever Why does my happieness bother you now? Why is my happiness now on your expense? If the fate of our love was up to you You wouldn’t have left me X2 Let me go, because I just… Let me go forever Chorus repeat This is not one of the songs whose… Read more »
Thank you, Colin 🙂 It turns out the lyrics go in the opposite direction of the title, so it was good that I asked. They’re quite relatable and I like the song even more right now.
Sara Jo’s song has potential to look fire on stage and Angellina is just great like always. Love all of her songs, but don’t know how it will look on stage.
Aca Lukas is disappointing and also I hope he doesn’t win, because I don’t want a genocide denier competing at ESC.
I second that 100%
The censuses show that ethnic Serbs were the ones genocided and ethnically cleansed the most. The media-backed victims now have the most ethnically cleansed cities, states and territories; they actually GAINED percentage of population during the wars. Media is also mainly counting combatants who died in the fighting as “genocide” victims.
I’m getting worried about this year’s Eurovision…
Agree
We say that every year, patience my friend, patience…
36 songs and almost no diversity at all? WHY!! Such boring songs that lack quality material that makes it a certain winner!
I wish France has something good for us, or even Germany. Anyone heard anything good news from them?
About France, we are still waiting for the line-up to be revealed “soon” but there are already some indiscretions based on fan’s investigation as everything about the 2022 NF seems to be kept top secret. Songs from various emerging artists like SOA, Saam often are quoted as well as other more familiar personnalities like La Zarra or Juliette Zenati and from a past FTV talent show called “The Artist”. But at this point, these are just speculations and we are still waiting for a confirmation of this (hopefully this week but not sure) and also we will know at the… Read more »
Ah great! I was wondering what is happening with France.
Thanks for this info 🙂
Germany will announce the (probably) 6 artists on this thursday at 11am. Some rumours said that Emily Roberts and Malik Harris are among the participants. Also it’s very likely that the Eskimo Callboys will be one of the artists with their song pump it. Let’s wait and see the results in 36hours 🙂
German acts for Eurovision will be revealed on Thursday, if there won’t be any leaks.
Um.. okay well these were somewhat less impactful that I had thought. Nice ones in the mix, but very few. I think there is a certain winner coming from here!
That’s the usual strategy from RTS. For 30 of those 36 songs nobody expect them to have any chance. But RTS sees this as a nice opportunity for small artists to get their few minutes on TV, which is ok. Usually their work is super low budget and therefor not the best quality.
For me, it’s ok, maybe not the best national selection, but it’s ok.
For me the problem is that there are 36 songs, and I can’t control my thoughts and opinions nicely :’D
