DMGP 2022

March 5. That’s when Denmark will crown the winner of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2022 live from the Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning. The next stop for the winner? Eurovision 2022 in Turin.

Tina Müller and Martin Brygmann have the honour of guiding viewers through the show. But many of those viewers will have already voted multiple times before the show even starts.

This year DR is adding a Melodi Grand Prix app to the mix. Between Monday 28 February and Friday 4 March, people can vote every single day.

Those votes will be combined with votes made during the show to determine the Top 3, which will move on to a super final. The three lucky acts will perform again and the public will decide on the winner.

But you don’t have to wait until then to dig into the tunes. You can listen to the eight hopefuls down below.

Denmark: Eight songs and artists revealed for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2022

Conf3ssions – “Hallelujah”

Lyrics and music by Moh Denebi, Rachel Furner, Jon Nørgaard, Patrick Dalton and Nikolaj Pellegrini

Der Var Engang – “En Skønne Dag”

Lyrics and music by Emma Pi Hedeboe, Rasmus Hedeboe and Claus Reenber

Fuld Effekt – “Rave Med De Hårde Drenge”

Lyrics and music by Alexander Scott Dyrbye, Zachary Rune Dyrbye, Claus Valdorff Thomsen and Kasper Bruhn Nielsen

Josie Elinor & Jack Warren – “Let Me Go”

Lyrics and music by Mikkel Sørensen, Katrine Brixen, Benjamin Rosenbohm and Julie Aagaard

Juncker – “Kommet For At Blive”

Lyrics and music by Christian Juncker

Morten Fillipsen – “Happy Go Lucky”

Lyrics and music by Morten Fillipsen

Patrick Dorgan – “Vinden Suser Ind”

Lyrics and music by Patrick Dorgan, Ole Bjørn Sørensen, Jeppe Kronback and Daniel Scheffmann

REDDI – “The Show”

Lyrics and music by Siggy Savery, Chief1, Ihan Haydar, Remee Jackman and Julia Fabrin

So who is your winner? Do you think any of these songs can qualify from the Semi-Final at Eurovision and make it to the grand final?

Conf3ssions with Hallelujah is my winner but there are also quite a lot of good ones. My other faves are En Skonne Dag (5th place), Happy Go Lucky (4th place), The Show (2nd place) and Rave De Met Harde Drenge (3rd place). Overall not many songs stand out. The best options if they want a qualification are Hallelujah and Rave Med De Harde Drenge. Overall a solid national final but by no means one of the best of the year.

Average line up but I’m really loving REDDI. This is the kind of moody indie rock I could listen outside the bubble. Quality there. Hope they deliver a good show because I think it’s the best option for Denmark in a field of average and bland songs. “Happy Go Lucky” would be my 2nd but I think it will have no impact at all.

I kinda like Hallelujah, Happy Go Lucky and Let Me Go. They don’t really feel original, but they’re fine. I don’t know what to think about Fuld Effekt’s song, it sounds weird. The others don’t really seem interesting. But they’ll grow on me before the competition. I hope so.

Do you think Rave has a chance of winning with Danish televote?
If the live performance is great ofc but seeing how Danes usually vote I don’t know.
It could be something very memorable to send but again we need to see it live first because it could go either way.

I have no idea, but I sure hope so. But then again, I can’t remember the last time my favorite actually won our national contest. The fact that they’ve changed up the voting rules, making it possible to vote every day in the week leading up to the contest may have an impact. Here’s hoping.

It depends on how many younger people are tuning in on night or vote for them in the week. Here i Denmark songs like Rave… falls in a category named “Dakkedak” and are specially popular among younger people.

That’s what I thought. It could really depend with the young vote I guess. If there’s some movement for a change.
And with this new voting system.. who knows. I didn’t know they changed it.
Rave is a real risk but it could be worth of it.

OK, it must be said that on first listen this sounds like a more interesting DMGP than last year, although true to Danish tradition there are few surprising or risky entries here. At least most of them are decently produced and legit songs. The songs of Reddi and Conf3ssions sound like the most interesting and competitive options which could work out well on stage; Full Effekt could be somewhat interesting but will probably take the turn to joke entry when performed. The rest is, well, not terrible but rather forgettable.

Wow what a weak selection in total… But I do like Conf3ssions and also REDDI to some extent. The song by Josie Elinor and Jack Warren isn’t bad either and is already included in this weeks New Mudic Friday Norway playlist so I have a feeling it will win then… It also feels like a Common Linnets type of song and performance. But i prefer as said Conf3ssions and REDDI.

I really don’t want to contribute to the negative reception of Denmark’s national final, but unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy a single song from this year’s selection. Yes, I did write earlier that I appreciated seeing more Danish entries despite not qualifying last year with a Danish song, but that was before I had listened to all 8 songs in full and now it’s more like faint praise. In a way, this is worse than last year’s crop for me because as much as it was lambasted as the “weakest” of the 2021 national finals, I actually liked a couple of… Read more »

Im really frustrated with DR and their selection – they use Chief 1 and Remee like a stamp of quality that “hitmakers” have written/producer entries…
But their entries have never worked at Eurovision, giving Denmark some of their worst placements..
Every entry in the danish selection is generic, ot sounds like discount version of whats in, nothing innovative at all…

I do hope we send “Rave with the tough guys” – at least it Would be something different for Denmark…

I don’t think this much negativity is justified. Yes, there’s not much flavor but at least we’re not tasting 20+ spoiled meals. Hallelujah is perfectly fine. Yes, it’s generic and I don’t like the use of words like hallelujah and amen in songs but it’s cute. I bobbed along and listened to the whole track. We’ve had less original songs in the Final before… It’s catchy and the vocals sound competent. En Skønne Dag Is not my taste but there have been quite a few songs like this that did fairly decently in the contest. The Netherlands would stage the… Read more »

DR (the broadcaster) said that they wanted a line up that mirrors the danish music scene – they did not focus on finding songs with international appeal that could do well at Eurovision. So they basically said that they don’t care about doing well at the contest. It really makes me mad that they are not taking it seriously anymore. This lineup is definitely missing something – and that is well-produced and well-written pop songs with international appeal (something like Mø, Drew Sycamore, Jada and Christopher)- we have lots of these on the radio. So I wouldn’t say this lineup… Read more »

I mean, Portugal also do things their way in recent years to have their entries in FDC be reflective of the domestic market. Doing so doesn’t seem like a bad idea, especially if you’re patient enough to wait for that effort to yield positive results.

Has Denmark changed their head of delegation in the last couple of years? Denmark always had a National final similar to Sweden and Norway in terms of songs and often you’d find Swedish-penned songs that were English-heavy pop tracks, but lately they seem to be going more of the indie route with an even split of Danish songs—it feels closer to Estonia or Portugal in terms of where they moved.

The Head of Delegation, Molly Plank, remains the same, but she has never been making any creative decisions in relation to DMGP and Denmark’s participation in ESC. She’s a production manager, who is mainly responsible for making sure that all aspects of the production are done on time and within the budget.

However, as far as I know, the entire creative team working on the content of the show was replaced a few years ago.

I can agree that this year’s eurovision seems to become a weaker one, but these are bound to happen at times. All countries can’t send out constant bangers, so there will be years where nothing really stands out. But it is kinda unfortunate with how some festivals like Denmark’s is deteriorating in quality, and Sweden hasn’t had a genuinely good Melodifestivalen (imo) since 2017 (although 2020 was decent).
But we still have around 15 more countries whose songs are unknown, so… until all are released, we’ll only have to see.

DR has been struggling for quite a while to come with one competitive tune. 8 fillers it is. Or they simply don’t care anymore. I think in 2013 they really wanted it because Sweden won and hosted so close to them and they were like we can do that too and they did it with a great stage and reportedly very high costs and since then they don’t bother anymore and seem to bother less and less. Seems like they need Sweden to win in order to give a sh*t. And yes, WTF about heart shaped hole? The last good… Read more »
