Melodifestivalen 2022 is now in full swing. The second heat took place in Stockholm’s Avicii Arena and there was a bit of everything. Seven performers staked their claim for a spot in the final, and there was even a bit of “Rena rama ding dong” too.
In the end, Liamoo and John Lundvik advanced directly to the final, joining Cornelia Jakobs and Robin Bengtsson from last week.
Furthermore, two artists secured a spot in the semi-final on 5 March, which serves as a second chance round. Those spots went to Alvaro Estrella and Tone Sekelius.
Melodifestivalen 2022: Heat 2 winners
Liamoo with “Bluffin”
If there’s one thing for certain, Liamoo was not bluffing — he had all the right cards. Putting together a slick performance, Liamoo opened the show and set the bar high. In the end, he was announced as an automatic qualifier through the first round of voting.
John Lundvik with “Änglavakt”
Following the second round of voting, Melodifestivalen 2019 winner John Lundvik secured his spot in the grand final. In our first look at the updated semi-final voting presentation, John received the maximum 12 points from all voting age groups except 3-9 year olds to book his place in the final.
Melodifestivalen 2022: Heat 2 results
The voting format of Melodifestivalen has changed this year. Following an initial round of voting, Liamoo was announced as the first act to qualify for the final.
After a second round of voting, John Lundvik joined him in the final.
Alvaro Estrella and Tone Sekelius moved through to the semi-final, receiving a second chance to fight for a place in the final.
It’s the end of the line for Niello & Lisa Ajax, Samira Manners and Browsing Collection, who won’t be progressing any further.
What do you think of the results? Did your favourite qualify? Let us know in the comments below.
I would be very happy if Sweden sends Liamoo’s absolute banger to Eurovision considering I have suspicions that Semi 2 will be a bit more ballad heavy and this song is just a joy to listen to and he is a very talented performer. But I’ll have to wait and see if he stays my favourite through the melfest songs to come.
No please. We dont want another generic pop song to win. Sweden need some new one.
yeah but it’s a Fantastic generic pop song. Those should be allowed xD But also there’s still a fair chance that someone in heats 3 or 4 will win me over instead. He’s the only one that has stood out to me so far. I like Cornelia, but her song didn’t stick in my mind the way Bluffin has.
Im really hoping Anna and Klara have songs to get this Melo a good final show!
SF2 turned out to be a bit better than SF1 imo, though the song I like the most so far is Cornelia’s Hold Me Closer
Wtf Gjon? With song? :O … c’mon cause Gjon was unique lol
At this point Its between – Liamoo and Cornelia (Cazzi, Anders, Klara might chalenge tho)
Liamoo + Torino #iscomimg
And if Cornelia wins? Cornelino?
Yeah #Corino haha
I can’t stop listening to My Way. Such a lovely, lively song and I think Tone Sekelius did a great job with the vocals last night. It won’t win Melodifestivalen 2022, but I do hope it goes to the Final. Very catchy. Agree Sweden is relying heavily on backing vocals , but I guess this is the new norm and what they want is what they get. Liamoo and Tone had the best songs last night. I am also not keen on this new voting system. Who is to ensure a vote is authentic and accurate for a 7 year… Read more »
Sorry, but the new voting system is terrible! It takes away all suspense. I’m afraid that all the fourth placements don’t have a chanche to get through to the final…
Either change it back in 2023 or right away, before the 3rd Deltavling.
To be honest i’m happy with the four qualifiers, everyone did their best, but the voting ruins it all in my opinion.
(Tone and Liamoo were my favorites after seeing everyone perform)
Agreed
I had goosebumps during Tone’s performance. She looked fierce and her confidence on stage was so empowering.
John Lundvik wearing those ragy clothes was just another way of the same stuff these people throw on everyone “SLAVE SLAVE SLAVE”, such a dull move to gain votes!
I really think Sweden are running out of ideas now. Bluffin staging looks like dance you off. And john lundviks song is way too dated and flat. They need a new team. It’s always the same artists year on year too.
How the f**k does it look like dance you off? Are you blind or something?
If you are going to have an argument about bad staging at least take better examples otherwise they just comes off as dumb to be honest.
All i thought about Liammo was dance you off and Alvaro Estrella’s reminded me of Tamtas staging which was by SJB
My thoughts on the first two semis of Melfest 2022 (buckle-up!): So far, the best song is, hands down, Cornelia’s Hold Me Closer. It might be something different from Sweden. It still looks and sounds very professional, but has a really vulnerable touch Sweden often misses to connect. Liamoo and John have best songs from the second semi, so them going DTF is both expected and deserving. The first semi, Cornelia aside, is a surprisingly even field for me. Considering how loved Robin is, I’m not surprised he made it through. I think it’s actually a good song, but I… Read more »
Liamoo had clearly the best pack of the semi, so his qualification was very deserved. With John Lundvik, I do like his song, but would have been sixth in the semi if it was sung by an unknown artist, so I’m not that convinced. Álvaro was much much better than expected and deserves a ticket in the finals. Tone Sekelius, I didn’t really enjoy it, so I don’t think she should have reached the semi. I really enjoyed the three non- qualifiers as well, so sad we won’t be seeing them further in the competition.
just noticed that only males qualified (considering the fact that tone is biologically male)
This comment is just so unnecessary. Why be so rude if you really don’t have to comment and be hurtful?
Tone is a woman. Obviously. And her name is spelt with a capital T, just like all names.
Up voting this, since it’s true!
Liamoo and John Lundvik (in that order) were also my top two in this semi, so I’m happy they got through.
Didn’t vibe with Tone so I’m a little surprised there, but congrats for getting through.
My gosh!
Liamoo song sounds so much like many Alok songs. Its like a copy of Party On My Own! Take a listen…
Melfest did a very clever thing with the presenting tonight. (I cannot elaborate, but I noticed the difference: well done producers and crew.) Congrats to Liamoo and John Lundvik. What an incredible live vocal performance from John – he single-handedly turned a slow plodding song into a triumph! There was not one note wrong; I am in awe of him, truly. I have always liked Liamoo, and Alvaro and Tone both had solid performances too. As you can probably tell, I enjoyed Week 2 a lot more overall than Week 1, but I still love that performance from Week 1… Read more »
“As you can probably tell, I enjoyed Week 2 a lot more overall than Week 1, but I still love that performance from Week 1 (Cornelia Jacobs) the best so far.” Same! 🙂
The person With the worst vocals won the semi final
Bluffin’ is such a club banger
and Liamoo really sold it by himself (which wasn’t easy at all with this kind of songs and performances)
I just wish they could involve the crowd somehow with the performance because it has a big energy but Liamoo was great selling it and most of the perfomers would probably failed in that.
Samira shouldve at least qualified for the semi-final instead of Alvaro
Sadly I thought the song “I Want to be Loved” was one minute of content spread out into three minutes. Yes to Samira, but no to the song. (Sorry)
Ok i kind of agree with u that the song was a little bit boring and repetitive, but to me Samira herself sold it. I hope she comes back another year with a song that can convince the swedish people more bc shes really talented. And i also think there is some quality in her compared to Alvaro -_-
Im starting to think that it’s not Melfest that’s gotten worse—it’s that other national finals have gotten better. I thought Samira really had the audience in her hand and then the next 2 minutes she just repeated these same lyrics over and over. That song needed another verse for sure. Liked LIAMOO and Alvaro but respect Jon’s performance. I really was shocked how My Way did—I couldn’t even understand half the lyrics—she must be a huge star in Sweden.
Sorry, but she isnt a huge star here. She is an influencer but that means that its mostly young People who know about her… Im also surprised (not my kind of song) but Melodifestivalen and swedish media have done a huge thing about the fact the she is the first transgender-person to ever compete in Sweden. Maybe thats the reason why she got through…Swededish audience often becomes political.. / a swede
I vote for Tone because i like her song
So did I!
https://youtu.be/7zwK5fDUOY4 This one is for John.
Liamoo, definitely gonna be my favourite this year if he wins. Improve the staging a little and the potential is there to grab everyones votes. So good
Can I just say that I thought Browsing Collection were awesome. I’m sad for them that they didn’t get through but happy their song is now added to my playlist!
They were awesome. I hope the BBC calls them if the UK internal selection deal falls through. 😛
Sarah Down Finer is coming
I actually thought this was Liamoo’s best song so far. Nothing too special, but polished and it deserved to qualify. John Lundvik was also quite nice but it really does sound like ‘hoe het danst’… He performed it well. I thought this was one of Alvaro’s best songs too but I’m glad it didn’t go direct to final. I didn’t like the last song, the singer was pretty and I guess the song was meaningful to her but it sounded dated and boring. I understand why it got through though. I wanted to like the punk song but it missed… Read more »
I think the new format takes some of the surprise away from the final. We already know that Liamoo beat John and that Cornelia beat Robin in the vote.
Bishara would have won over John Lundvik in 2019 in heat 4!
LIAMOO deserves qualifying, but what I would like to see qualifying should have been either Samira Manners, Browsing Collection or the Niello-Lisa duet.
*in Samira’s song “I Want to be Loved”, I am weirdly feeling some vibes of “Behöver inte dig idag”. what a beautiful, simple guitar-led ballad. as she has British root, I hope that BBC will one year consider picking her in the future.
*Browsing Collection is underrated. some parts of their song reminds me of Royal Blood.
*Niello-Lisa would have been great for a semifinal slot.
As a swede, Liamoo, no question about it. I love the song and performance. He was the only one tonight who delivered. But John Lundvik brought up his kids to the stage like he already won the melfest. WTF? The guy really loves the spotlight.
Didnt robin do that too. It’s a race to play into Swedes hearts for extra votes with “who’s the best daddy”. LIAMOO also has a baby. Is Jon married? We just saw the kids and no wife. Are Jon, Robin and LIAMOO all single fathers? Not judging—just genuinely curious.
I missed that but hey, no shade on Robin Bengtsson but last week was all about Cornelia. The difference with Robin Bengtsson and John Lundvik is that the swedish people never had Robins back, but they have been faaaar up in Johns ass. 🙂 Thats why he have the hubris I guess.
Hehe, are you genuinely interested? I dont know about Liamoo but John are not single, neither are Robin. But Robin are not together with the baby momma.
Who cares if he’s married? The partner is independent and can speak for themselves.
Neither of them are single. Liam and John are together with their kid’s mothers. Robin separated from his son’s mother many years ago, but he has a new girlfriend now.
YES THIS!! I can’t put my finger on what annoys me so much about him (John) but you explained it really well!
Yes! And we all remember the look in his face during the eurovision final when he realized that he was beaten by the netherlands. 😀
Classic Eurovision meme!!!
Absolutely, as a swede it can be provocative to say but Arcade was the deserved winner that year. 🙂 But I hope we step up someday, havent been happy with our option since 2015.
I hope the winner is not from here.
I didn’t like liamoo performance. It was boring a bit.
Samira should have gone to second chance at least.
So, I went into this heat blind, so to speak (that is, I never checked out the previews or snippets this week). Here is a rundown of my thoughts. 1) Liamoo – It was the first song this semi, and the moment I heard it I knew he was guaranteed to go to the finals. I also recognized the work of Dino Medanhodzic in the son and damn can the man produce wonders! Well deserved and probably my personal favourite song from Liamoo in melo. 2) John Lundvik – hearing this song, I knew for a fact it would be… Read more »
I’m not sure about the new results reveal. It’s like John Lundvik got all the glory, with Liamoo, the actual winner, almost forgotten.
Honestly I also have mixed feelings about it. I thought it was a good idea in theory. Seeing it playing out now though, it is a bit anticlimactic in situations like these (where the qualifiers become fairly obvious when halfway through the voting results for the various age groups).
Completely. This new voting is a bit of a mess. Now you have semi 1 qualifiers moving on without the benefit of the app age break down. Semi 2, we spent 10 minutes of Jon getting all the glory with lots of 12 points while LIAMOO got some flowers and was ushered away.
Indeed, it was very one-sided. As much as I like to watch John cheering himself, it gets a bit awkward after doing it six times in a row. 😀
Totally agree, Liamoo won the votes yesterdays but John Lundvik acted like a winner of miss universe.
Once again, such a weak year. I would love to see a song in Swedish winning although the missed opportunity was last year with the amazing klara klingström- behöver inte dig idag
sad to see samira go
Doesn’t matter what anyone else do, we’re gonna send Cornelia.
I hope so, she has that wow factor. But let’s see if Anders Bagge an Klara Hammarström really are a threat to that..
Bagge maybe..i think Klara will end up like Hanna.
You guys were so sure you were going to send Dotter in 2020 but look at what happened in the end. I’m not so sure about Swedes’ taste.
It was not that clear big of a buzz around Dotter in Sweden tho..i have to go back to Loreeen to find an entry that was recived like Cornelias. The only one that can beat her is Bagge but i dont think that will happen.
Sigh again with Dotter.
The only hype she had was from international fans. In Sweden she had no hype, no one thought she would win. Cornelia is different in that she has the Loreen effect, even media think she is the winner
I’d hold out until at least the end of the semis. The fandom was so sure about Dotter winning 2 years ago and well, Dotterdam never happened.
Bluffin is this years bulletproof, don’t know if shares the fate also?
Again with Dotter, sigh..
The only hype Dotter had was from international fans. In Sweden no one thought she would win and she had no hype whatsoever. Cornelia is different In that she actually is hyped, its the Loreen level of hype. Even media and press think she is the winner
If it was newcomers who sang their songs, they would never have qualified. Due to the bad app voting, the most famous NAMES almost always qualified (but there are some exceptions of course) The voting system before 2015 was so much better
Cornelia won the last semifinal as someone that most likely was completely unknown to everyone voting. So I don’t think that’s true.
I know and thats why i wrote that there are some exceptions every year. And she is one of them
A reminder that Cornelia won without the context of know how she performed across age groups in the app. She might’ve not been the first qualifier if app voting had worked.
Seriously disrespectful to Browsing collection. We need more variety in mello tbh
At this point I’m convinced Alvaro Estrella doesn’t speak a word of Spanish. Those lyrics…
Joy Deb and Jimmy “Joker” wrote his song together with him. And the host joked about him coming from Soèntùna, ie. he’s from Stockholm and that Latin stuff is just very Swedish
I actually thought Lundvik deserved it. He is a great performer and he lifted up a song that probably wouldnt work otherwise. Plus if you understand Swedish it was a very hearfelt performance. But the heat last week was much stronger
His lyrics was more or less Shirley Clamps but in Swedish
I agree, John is a fantastic singer and, while the song itself is sort of ok, he can truly lift up the music and provide an incredible performance.
If you’re gonna copy someone you better make sure your execution is superior. Sorry Liamoo, Benjamin did it better.
First time hearing Bluffin is a much better song than Dance You off, which was soo boring.
I was talking about the staging. Thought it was obvious. The poses, the moves, the camera angles, the controlling the lights with your hand… Watch them side by side and tell me it wasn’t inspired.
Impossible to come up something orginal without taking some influences these days. Still it’s all about the song.
Rena rama ding dong remix best this evening
agreed! It was brilliant!!
Liamoo is my favourite from this semi, but I still think Cornelia is the best choise so far.
agree
UGH! Hate John Lundvik! he can take a s”t on stage and go through anyways, so annoying! Tone should’ve been in the finals or Alvaro
Well I only thought that Samira would qualify for Semi 5 over Tone, so 5/7 for me (perfect score 😉 )
But none of these songs felt like winner material anyways so this was a whatever week for me.
can someone tell me why the arena was so empty tonight? I was so happy to see all the people today because I thought Sweden lifted all the regulations..
The restrictions were lifted just this week, and just a month ago this semi was still planned to be held in Gothenburg. So the tickets hasn’t been out for very long, and since all semis are in Stockholm, I guess the demand is just a bit more spread out with all the six weeks being in the same city. I reckon the only time we could expect a full arena is the final.
People here in Stockholm aren’t the biggest mello fans. Also now that the restrictions are lifted I’m sure people wanna go put and party instead of being at mello. The finale is probably the only time there will be a full arena.
The Swedes must be suckers of latin music because Alvaro Estrella keeps qualifying every year with those bland, cheap and cheesy copies of songs that trended years ago. So unoriginal and dull. Each year he brings a worse song but he still manages to make it through… It’s almost embarrassing.
In 2014, he didnt qualified to the finale or andra chansen
I feel like he’s chosen just for the sake of Latin representation but he doesn’t even speak Spanish (judging by his pronunciation and lyrics). At least he could take inspiration from the likes of Reik or Danny Ocean just to vary xd
He does speak Spanish. I’ve seen interviews with him on Spanish media. He has a Chilean accent.
Possibly unpopular opinion: I don’t like John Lundvik at all and I never quite believe his emotional displays. His music has zero depth. Alvaro’s trash music is way more authentic.
100% agree
No unpopular opinion at all. The lyrics he sang was cringe. The song he won with 2019 was the perfect elevator music, my opinion and I am from Sweden.
That’s not unpopular. People online really seem to dislike John Lundvik by now and it’s actually saying that you liked him that will get you the downvotes.
Tbh I think his emotional displays are quite exaggerated. He has a great voice, but I don’t like any of his songs and that seems to be the consensus both in Sweden and abroad.
Abroad? Maybe, although if you think this site somehow represents anything you would be wrong..
In Sweden? No, not so much. He is still liked here and especially since voicing Simba he is ever so popular. He even is a radio host now…
Liamoo was ok. John really moved me, the song may not be hardhitting, but it is incredibly beautiful and his voice is just heavenly.
What a pity those votes… I only agree on the fact that LIAMOO was the best but Sweden will need something better to score in Turin.
i was a bit dissapointed when i saw alvaro qualifying over samira
although i liked it i didnt have many hopes that it Tror du att jag bryr mig ould go through
completely predictable, sweden will never change
Sweden in a nutshell
Sweden in a nutshell? Gush, I think we are quite unpredictable frankly.
The eastern europe alwayse sends the hot girls in short skirts. No one criticize them for that? There you have the predictable thing.
And neither will Albania.. Or Italy. Or France. So whats the point again?
Exactly, like do people expect the audience to change their taste every year? It’s still the same people voting. Therefore the results will be similar. It’s not that wierd.
It’s been said before – this is a Swedish TV show. 100% televote. The results will always be right and fair. Can’t argue democracy
Actually France has changed a lot since 2020. They used to be one of the cringiest Big 5 countries not too long ago.
Lisa Angell, Amir, Alma, Madame Monsieur, Bilal were cringe ?
Yeah, let’s pretend Tom Leeb and Moustache didn’t happen
Not sure about that. You probably belive Liamoo will win – a male pop show. But i really think sweden will choose Cornelia this year. Let’s see.
