Melodifestivalen 2022 is now in full swing. The second heat took place in Stockholm’s Avicii Arena and there was a bit of everything. Seven performers staked their claim for a spot in the final, and there was even a bit of “Rena rama ding dong” too.

In the end, Liamoo and John Lundvik advanced directly to the final, joining Cornelia Jakobs and Robin Bengtsson from last week.

Furthermore, two artists secured a spot in the semi-final on 5 March, which serves as a second chance round. Those spots went to Alvaro Estrella and Tone Sekelius.

Melodifestivalen 2022: Heat 2 winners

Liamoo with “Bluffin”

If there’s one thing for certain, Liamoo was not bluffing — he had all the right cards. Putting together a slick performance, Liamoo opened the show and set the bar high. In the end, he was announced as an automatic qualifier through the first round of voting.

John Lundvik with “Änglavakt”

Following the second round of voting, Melodifestivalen 2019 winner John Lundvik secured his spot in the grand final. In our first look at the updated semi-final voting presentation, John received the maximum 12 points from all voting age groups except 3-9 year olds to book his place in the final.

Melodifestivalen 2022: Heat 2 results

The voting format of Melodifestivalen has changed this year. Following an initial round of voting, Liamoo was announced as the first act to qualify for the final.

After a second round of voting, John Lundvik joined him in the final.

Alvaro Estrella and Tone Sekelius moved through to the semi-final, receiving a second chance to fight for a place in the final.

It’s the end of the line for Niello & Lisa Ajax, Samira Manners and Browsing Collection, who won’t be progressing any further.

What do you think of the results? Did your favourite qualify? Let us know in the comments below.

I would be very happy if Sweden sends Liamoo’s absolute banger to Eurovision considering I have suspicions that Semi 2 will be a bit more ballad heavy and this song is just a joy to listen to and he is a very talented performer. But I’ll have to wait and see if he stays my favourite through the melfest songs to come.

yeah but it’s a Fantastic generic pop song. Those should be allowed xD But also there’s still a fair chance that someone in heats 3 or 4 will win me over instead. He’s the only one that has stood out to me so far. I like Cornelia, but her song didn’t stick in my mind the way Bluffin has.

I can’t stop listening to My Way. Such a lovely, lively song and I think Tone Sekelius did a great job with the vocals last night. It won’t win Melodifestivalen 2022, but I do hope it goes to the Final. Very catchy. Agree Sweden is relying heavily on backing vocals , but I guess this is the new norm and what they want is what they get. Liamoo and Tone had the best songs last night. I am also not keen on this new voting system. Who is to ensure a vote is authentic and accurate for a 7 year… Read more »

Sorry, but the new voting system is terrible! It takes away all suspense. I’m afraid that all the fourth placements don’t have a chanche to get through to the final…

Either change it back in 2023 or right away, before the 3rd Deltavling.

To be honest i’m happy with the four qualifiers, everyone did their best, but the voting ruins it all in my opinion.

(Tone and Liamoo were my favorites after seeing everyone perform)

I really think Sweden are running out of ideas now. Bluffin staging looks like dance you off. And john lundviks song is way too dated and flat. They need a new team. It’s always the same artists year on year too.

My thoughts on the first two semis of Melfest 2022 (buckle-up!): So far, the best song is, hands down, Cornelia’s Hold Me Closer. It might be something different from Sweden. It still looks and sounds very professional, but has a really vulnerable touch Sweden often misses to connect. Liamoo and John have best songs from the second semi, so them going DTF is both expected and deserving. The first semi, Cornelia aside, is a surprisingly even field for me. Considering how loved Robin is, I’m not surprised he made it through. I think it’s actually a good song, but I… Read more »

Liamoo had clearly the best pack of the semi, so his qualification was very deserved. With John Lundvik, I do like his song, but would have been sixth in the semi if it was sung by an unknown artist, so I’m not that convinced. Álvaro was much much better than expected and deserves a ticket in the finals. Tone Sekelius, I didn’t really enjoy it, so I don’t think she should have reached the semi. I really enjoyed the three non- qualifiers as well, so sad we won’t be seeing them further in the competition.

Melfest did a very clever thing with the presenting tonight. (I cannot elaborate, but I noticed the difference: well done producers and crew.) Congrats to Liamoo and John Lundvik. What an incredible live vocal performance from John – he single-handedly turned a slow plodding song into a triumph! There was not one note wrong; I am in awe of him, truly. I have always liked Liamoo, and Alvaro and Tone both had solid performances too. Bluffin’ is such a club banger
and Liamoo really sold it by himself (which wasn’t easy at all with this kind of songs and performances)
I just wish they could involve the crowd somehow with the performance because it has a big energy but Liamoo was great selling it and most of the perfomers would probably failed in that.

Im starting to think that it’s not Melfest that’s gotten worse—it’s that other national finals have gotten better. I thought Samira really had the audience in her hand and then the next 2 minutes she just repeated these same lyrics over and over. That song needed another verse for sure. Liked LIAMOO and Alvaro but respect Jon’s performance. I really was shocked how My Way did—I couldn’t even understand half the lyrics—she must be a huge star in Sweden.

Sorry, but she isnt a huge star here. She is an influencer but that means that its mostly young People who know about her… Im also surprised (not my kind of song) but Melodifestivalen and swedish media have done a huge thing about the fact the she is the first transgender-person to ever compete in Sweden. I actually thought this was Liamoo’s best song so far. Nothing too special, but polished and it deserved to qualify. John Lundvik was also quite nice but it really does sound like ‘hoe het danst’… He performed it well. I thought this was one of Alvaro’s best songs too but I’m glad it didn’t go direct to final. LIAMOO deserves qualifying, but what I would like to see qualifying should have been either Samira Manners, Browsing Collection or the Niello-Lisa duet.
*in Samira’s song “I Want to be Loved”, I am weirdly feeling some vibes of “Behöver inte dig idag”. what a beautiful, simple guitar-led ballad. as she has British root, I hope that BBC will one year consider picking her in the future.
*Browsing Collection is underrated. some parts of their song reminds me of Royal Blood.
*Niello-Lisa would have been great for a semifinal slot.

Didnt robin do that too. It’s a race to play into Swedes hearts for extra votes with “who’s the best daddy”. LIAMOO also has a baby. Is Jon married? We just saw the kids and no wife. Are Jon, Robin and LIAMOO all single fathers? Not judging—just genuinely curious.

Completely. This new voting is a bit of a mess. Now you have semi 1 qualifiers moving on without the benefit of the app age break down. Semi 2, we spent 10 minutes of Jon getting all the glory with lots of 12 points while LIAMOO got some flowers and was ushered away.

The restrictions were lifted just this week, and just a month ago this semi was still planned to be held in Gothenburg. So the tickets hasn’t been out for very long, and since all semis are in Stockholm, I guess the demand is just a bit more spread out with all the six weeks being in the same city.
