Germany 12 Points

Hallo Deutschland! Germany’s new national final Germany 12 Points takes place on March 4. The result will be determined by the public alone. But before the show hits the airwaves, it’s time to listen to the songs and meet the artists.

Germany 12 Points Participants

Emily Roberts — “Soap”

A singer-songwriter from Hamburg, Emily recently toured with James Blunt. In 2019, her cover of “Bitter Sweet Symphony” with DJ duo Gamper & Dadoni went gold in both Germany and Austria, spending 13 weeks on the German charts.

Eros Atomus — “Alive”

Singer-songwriter Eros has a unique worldview: He has dual citizenship from Denmark and Switzerland. He says his personal style has been influenced by his travels around the world, as he’s lived in the US, China and The Netherlands. In 2018 he participated in The Voice of Germany and finished fourth in the final.

Felicia Lu — “Anxiety”

We’re not saying Bye, Felicia — we’re sending a big hello. Eurovision fans should be familiar with the “Anxiety” singer. She participated the Germany’s national selection Unser Song 2017, but was eliminated in the first round. Born in 1995, she grew up near the Austrian border and now lives in Vienna where she works as a songwriter for herself and others.

Maël & Jonas — “I Swear to God”

Similar to Junior Eurovision star Pauline, this duo hail from Koblenz. The pair consists of Maël, 25, and Jonas, 19. They have been collaborating on music for three years They reached third place on The Voice of Germany in 2020. Their single “Treat You Right” — released with The Voice coach Nico Santos — has over two million streams on Spotify.

Malik Harris — “Rockstars”

This 24-year-old is ready for the good times to return. A German-American pop singer, rapper and songwriter, he’s already enjoyed positive reviews of his song, which dropped prior to the Germany 12 Points reveal.

Nico Suave & Team Liebe — “Hallo Welt”

It’s been four years, but we finally have another song in German. Nico Suave is a German rapper who hails from Menden, Sauerland. Through the song — which translates as “Hello World” — he and Team Liebe (EMY, NKSN and Buket) hope to encourage people to create space in their heads for positivity and to feel more connected with one another.” This is all about good vibes:

All these people who despise Germany’s Eurovision experience are basically terrorists.

Im sorry Germany, but only Alive and Rockstars impress me

Mael & Jonas are my favourites. I just love the beat of the song and it sounds current. If they win that would be my favourite German song since 2018 (except 2020), so that’s something at least. I don’t think they would get 0 points in televoting unless their live vocals are bad.

“Germany. I am sorry. Zero Points.”
Seriously though, oof.

“Anxiety” is the best song for me but it’s still a bottom-three Eurovision effort unless something unexpected happens.

I’m sure whoever wins Germany’s selection will slay in Turin.

Are you saying you personally like these songs or you objectively see any of them getting a better result than I Don’t Feel Hate, Sister, Ghost, and Black Smoke?

Well, I kind of like all of them but most are just pleasant. We know how it could end. At this moment I see just two songs that could avoid a bottom 5 ending. Those two are: “Rockstars” and “I swear to God”.

Rockstars and Anxiety are the only entries with possibilities of not ending up dead last in Turin, but all entries here are dreadful, I liked none

Why aren’t any well-known artists or bands applying for the ESC to represent Germany? Answer: because they are sorted (like EC) out anyway and no name people are taken with mediocre song material.

The question here is who has the potential to not get 0. I suggest Rockstars. The others in between of 24 songs are a guarantee for bottom 3

If I had to choose, Rockstars would be my favourite.

But Germany needs to be realistic and accept that they’re highly unlikely to get out the bottom 5 with these mediocre songs

For me I swear to God is the best but I would be happy with Anxiety or Rockstars winning too.

I would also like to start a petition that Eskimo Callboy is internally selected next year, please.

I’m a little surprised that in a country of over 83M people, they couldn’t find more than 6 acts to compete. It makes it even more incomprehensible why Eskimo Callboy couldn’t participate. Smh.

Anyway, out of this bunch, I have to go with Felicia Lu.

They found them, they just discarded them because the miserable people in charge of NDR don’t want Germany to win

I wish “none of them” would be an option.
All of these are quite bland, uninspired, generic…
Just nothing special.

Wish there was at least something with a soul, something like Michael Schulte, something that wouldnt feel this plastic, cookie cutter.

I wonder if anyone would notice if one song is picked over the other….As I said earlier, they all sound the same.

Who should win ‘Germany 12 Points’ and sing at Eurovision? Perhaps it should just be whoever has the most resilience for getting Germany 0 points. But I don’t want to be unkind or do a disservice to these acts who have put themselves forward. I’d say Emily, Eros and Maël & Jonas all have qualities to work with but the songs they’ve put forward don’t, it’s all quite simple and derivative material. Felicia, Malik, and Nico Suave & Team Liebe are certainly a league above, in that they actually have something to say in the songs they’ve written on topics… Read more »

I think it depends on how realistic the artists who win are about their own chances. If they know, they probably can have fun. If not, the voting part will be a rude awakening.

Listening to Marko and Mia Dimsic on repeat btw. I hope Croatia makes one of the right choices, I wish them a top 10 with one of those two lovely songs. Quite excited about their NF now. As for Germany, I sincerely wish NDR zero points total and that NF zero success.

Whilst it is true they did get considered this year, I think it’s Germany’s version of the infamous TISM petition when it was announced Australia would join ESC (and also our petition for RPDR stars or Ireland’s for my Lovely Horse, but Callboy, who are indeed considering their long-established name, due to its cultural insensitivity, are the most like TISM, in terms of music and being culturally incorrect – the TISM vocalist used the H word in his stage name and they had songs like Defecate on My Face and Everyone Else has had more Sex than me, hence why… Read more »
