It’s getting exciting! Sydney based singer songwriter Andrew Lambrou has released his much anticipated entry to Eurovision – Australia Decides 2022, the shockingly-titled “Electrify” this last week.
The highly produced track is Euro house-pop at its finest, and completely on trend with what’s heard across the world today with the likes of MNEK and Joel Corry. It’s only fitting the Australian born Greek-Cypriot Lambrou has channelled a sound familiar in his heritage home continent – even incorporating a Spanish verse throughout. It’s not only Eleni Foureira and Elena Tsagkrinou who can sing in Spanish in Cyprus, it seems. With haunting ethnic sounds, “Electrify” is clearly designed to get people moving in their chairs.
Andrew Lambrou sings “Electrify” at Australia Decides 2022
“Electrify” is written by Andrew Lambrou and Joseph, Nick, and Timm de la Hoyde.
Speaking about the song with our friends at Aussievision Lambrou said:
“When it came to writing ‘Electrify’, I wanted to put together something that within that “Euro-world”, but mixed with “Andrew-world”, you know, Greek Cypriot heritage, and, listening to music from Europe is something [thats] been a real part of my whole life. It’s in my blood, as you can imagine.
‘Electrify’ is about, meeting someone that literally makes you feel electric and makes you feel like this, new wave of emotion is flowing through your body, and that you feel almost like a superhero. You feel invincible, it’s just like that magical spark. It could be with anyone, but you know, I really wanted to bring that to life. And I think the word electrify just stuck out to me and we knew that that had to be the title of the song.”
Andrew joins other entrants, duo Isaiah and Evie Irie, pop newcomer Charley, the fabulous Seann Miley Moore, Perth’s metal quintet Voyager, singer-songwriter Jude York, avant-garde performance artist Sheldon Riley, six-piece girl group G-NAT!ON, powerhouse entertainer PAULINI, Tiktok wildcard Erica Padilla and multi-media artist Jaguar Jonze. Eurovision – Australia Decides 2022 airs on February 26 on SBS.
What do you think of Andrew’s house track? Do you want to see Australia bring the house down in in Turin? Let us know down below!
Don’t know about this one. It’s a very produced sound and I just don’t know if it will work live.
Stop complaining. Its good.
This song sounds ok. Better than the reviews suggest.
Personally, this is already shaping to be one of the worst Eurovision years next to 2011
It’s a solid song but there’s no energy in his vocals and the production isn’t strong enough to carry it. Great for background dance music but no so much for a performative song competition.
Ok I’ve listened to all songs and this song is one of the best songs of the selection. I don’t really get the hype about Voyage and Sheldon. Either Charley or Andrew should go for Australia this year. Charley if they want to compete.
As a Spaniard I don’t know how to feel about this. I mean, the song sounds cool, he has a voice but the Spanish verses really take me out. This song really didn’t need them. The grammar isn’t working right and his pronunciation is not what it should be. Also the lyric video contains a lot mistakes in the way some words are spelt. Spanish is just a burden to the song.
I’m sorry for the native English speakers that have to suffer this in hundreds of songs every year.
Meh… just meh.
Andrew has the strongest voice of all participants and he wasted all that potential on such a bland song. Also, what’s with the random Spanish verse? What a shame.
Electrify is the last thing I would’ve called this. Fine to dance to, but it’s quite nondescript, which is the opposite of what you want in a competition.
It’s like Cyprus 2020, just worse
I might be in a minority, but I really enjoyed Running and still like to bop along to it in the car!
What a pity he hasn’t got better song, he deserves so much more.
its bland. really forgettable and Australia’s doomed if it performs first or second half . boring
Ok the Song maybe is not the best one but he is so hot? i want him on the ESC stage? Well it’s EuroVISION right:)
this is alright, quite nice. probably will fall flat on stage tho
Just horrible.
Ok I think I need to write two separate comments about this 😀
I love a good dance song and this is good. One thing that pleases me is this record could be sourced from anywhere in the world and as such will cut across boundaries. well done
Omg! I saw Andrew and had a mini heart attack thinking it was the artist. I felt so bad for him reading the comments. 😀
This is good club song but doesn’t seem like it works for a competitive festival as we saw with Darude. Weird that he wants to highlight his Greek-Cypriot heritage and then proceeds to throw in Spanish lyrics. Am I missing something?
English is just as foreign, if he can use that…
Well he’s from Australia. So English is expected….and not foreign to him. But you can’t say you want to show off your Greek-Cypriot heritage and proceed to add Spanish to your native language song.
These three minutes felt like an hour.
It’s a kind of radio-song that I really dislike. It goes absolutely nowhere and just background noise. I have no idea how that song is supposed to work on a big stage and keep your attention.
