After a three-year break, the Malta Eurovision Song Contest returned and found Malta‘s act for Eurovision 2022. After a three-day process, Emma Muscat turned out victorious. She will be heading to Turin in May with his/her song “Out of Sight”.

Starting on Thursday night, the 22 competing acts each performed their entry in the epic semi-final show. After a 24-hour voting period, 16 acts were revealed as heading directly to the MESC grand final. San Marino’s Eurovision 2018 star Jessika also won the wildcard to the final with her song “Kaleidoscope”.

Tonight the 17 finalists performed their songs again and faced the vote. In the end, it was Emma Muscat who impressed both the jury and televoters, topping the vote with her song “Out of Sight”.

Aidan came a close second, being the second favourite with both the jury and televoters.

Emma Muscat won’t have far to travel to Eurovision 2022. She is currently based in Italy, having made a name on the talent show Amici di Maria De Filippi and building up a pop career in Italy.

Its nice but just that. Emma has a good voice and nice staging and she does her best. But the song is just there. Its a song perfect for car radio..
But I do think she might have a small chance

Cmon Malta change the song and keep Emma! You’ve done it in the past with Ira Losco in 2016.

Emma is very talented but needs another song, won’t be that difficult to buy a Swedish-penned song, i know desperate but it might work!

Dude, I agree that Out of Sight is forgettable but a Swedish penned song won’t solve Malta’s problems

Still, Miriana Conte’s song (Look What You’ve Done Now) was better by far!

I listened to Emma’s song 3 times in a span of 24 hours and I still don’t remember a thing about it 🙁 Ritmu however was an absolute summertime bop, not to mention the beautiful language… I’m mourning the loss. The vibe reminded me of Luca Hänni in 2019 (I mean this in the best possible way because I love it), it could have been a top 5. No wonder Malta fell down in the odds after this night

I don’t think it would have made a big difference even if they had. Achille Lauro is actually a really big star and will almost surely get 12 pts from the Italian televote if he qualifies but almost nobody actually knows who Emma Muscat is here. Even my best friend who is obsessed with Amici di Maria de Filippi had to go look up her picture when I told her she was representing Malta because she couldn’t remember who she was.

Really a reapeat of what they did 2017, when they let their one chance at trying in their own language fail, due to them probably still believing in the myth that Maltese will always give them last place. (Despite that just being bad luck 2 years in a row during the 1970s.)

I think hand on heart, Malta is probably super ashamed over the way they speak and will NEVER EVER send a song in the Maltese language.

If Ritmu had won last night I would have voted for it in May, I think it sounded exotic (BTW I’m not Maltese) whereas Out of Sight is instantly forgettable. We need more language diversity in ESC, it makes for a more interesting contest. Last year we had a song in Italian win, 5 years ago Portuguese. Language shouldn’t be a barrier to doing well.

Difference is that Italian is a big language that most people have heard. So they can send in native language. Most other European languages are really small however and basically only heard in the country of said language. Even Luxemburg back in the day sent songs in French.

This song is okay, but to me it just feels a bit too vanilla. Emma is great, her voice is strong, but this song does nothing for me. It kind of feels like track 11 on an album. To me, If it came on the radio, I’d probably change the station, and if nothing better was on, I’d come back to it. I think Malta may be the shock NQ this year.

Because the juries are in love with Malta the last few years, but this year I don’t think Malta can count on that. Btw, I loved Chameleon a few years ago, it was my #1, so I am not bashing Malta.. I just feel this year will be an NQ for them.

Heard the song yesterday and I don’t even remember it…bad sign. If I could vote, I would have voted for Aidan. No votes for Emma, sorry. Very basic & generic song, good voice though.
I wanted to dance on ”ritmu” a beautiful bop on Maltese language.

Well, at least she’ll get claps from Italian crowd and she’ll go to the country that she knows. It really depends on how they execute the song in Eurovision, so far this is not bound to impress, it might reach the finals, but it will be forgotten among other entries, that said, good luck to her, maybe she’ll use her vocals and lyricism to make it slightly more memorable. I haven’t watched a full show so I can’t compare it to what alternatives there are, but definitely, it’s low-key, but I wouldn’t write it off completely.

I can’t say I’m disappointed despite the jury vote being quite fishy (I’m gutted for Aidan, hoping he tries again soon), Emma did deliver and owned the stage like a pro.
Now, I just hope Malta (or her team) gets her a better song or revamps Out of Sight at the very least.
I mean, her entry isn’t bad and she actually brought it to life at the stage, but her SF is full of ballads and songs in English, so it could get lost among the crowd if nothing’s done about it.

Don’t start with the “change the song” rubbish again. The Maltese people were robbed, literally, before by Ira Losco when she changed her song which was voted for by the Maltese public. Each vote cost’s money so yes it was robbery. So don’t start suggesting this rubbish again. Out of sight was paid for so that’s the song that should represent Malta.

What a relief Aidan didn’t win. Running joke in Malta be copies all his songs from other people is embarrassing. The fact that people were rooting for someone who can’t sing live and has not an once of creativity where he lifts the song from other people I cannot understand. Well done Emma.

Surely that cannot be right. The song and artist was chosen, not just the singer. Of course the song can be modified but the essence of the song must remain. If not, then why don’t countries just pick an artist and announce the song much later ???
