After a three-year break, the Malta Eurovision Song Contest returned and found Malta‘s act for Eurovision 2022. After a three-day process, Emma Muscat turned out victorious. She will be heading to Turin in May with his/her song “Out of Sight”.
Starting on Thursday night, the 22 competing acts each performed their entry in the epic semi-final show. After a 24-hour voting period, 16 acts were revealed as heading directly to the MESC grand final. San Marino’s Eurovision 2018 star Jessika also won the wildcard to the final with her song “Kaleidoscope”.
Tonight the 17 finalists performed their songs again and faced the vote. In the end, it was Emma Muscat who impressed both the jury and televoters, topping the vote with her song “Out of Sight”.
Aidan came a close second, being the second favourite with both the jury and televoters.
Emma Muscat won’t have far to travel to Eurovision 2022. She is currently based in Italy, having made a name on the talent show Amici di Maria De Filippi and building up a pop career in Italy.

The most likely NUL point of the year, in the SF I mean
lovely song, and listening to other work from Emma, i am becoming quite the fan of her, she is very talented
also her piano cover of a classical piece by Chopin is very nice
Hey Wiwibloggs!!!!!! Thanks for picking my earlier comment & putting it on the Malta reaction video.. I literally died!! Apart from when I married my dreamgirl, there has been no greater day in my life. I love what you all do & I am so glad Wiwibloggs is here. Thanks guys!!
Its nice but just that. Emma has a good voice and nice staging and she does her best. But the song is just there. Its a song perfect for car radio..
But I do think she might have a small chance
Interesting choice. Malta loves to throw their chances down the drain.
I would have loved for Raquel to sing at the eurovision song contest as she seems to be the only act try really hard to go to the eurovision song contest
Cmon Malta change the song and keep Emma! You’ve done it in the past with Ira Losco in 2016.
Emma is very talented but needs another song, won’t be that difficult to buy a Swedish-penned song, i know desperate but it might work!
Dude, I agree that Out of Sight is forgettable but a Swedish penned song won’t solve Malta’s problems
Still, Miriana Conte’s song (Look What You’ve Done Now) was better by far!
But…
I listened to Emma’s song 3 times in a span of 24 hours and I still don’t remember a thing about it 🙁 Ritmu however was an absolute summertime bop, not to mention the beautiful language… I’m mourning the loss. The vibe reminded me of Luca Hänni in 2019 (I mean this in the best possible way because I love it), it could have been a top 5. No wonder Malta fell down in the odds after this night
Aidan’s song was so catchy and staging was kinda cheesy but super fun. Malta how could you let this gem lose??
Italy doesn’t vote in Semi 2.
unfortunate because both San Marino and Malta are competing in sf2
I don’t think it would have made a big difference even if they had. Achille Lauro is actually a really big star and will almost surely get 12 pts from the Italian televote if he qualifies but almost nobody actually knows who Emma Muscat is here. Even my best friend who is obsessed with Amici di Maria de Filippi had to go look up her picture when I told her she was representing Malta because she couldn’t remember who she was.
Good singer, boring song – such a pity!
Wow this year is…. abysmal
So forgettable and bad news children are not allowed in the ESC scene.
Remember Lithuania 2018?
Really a reapeat of what they did 2017, when they let their one chance at trying in their own language fail, due to them probably still believing in the myth that Maltese will always give them last place. (Despite that just being bad luck 2 years in a row during the 1970s.)
I think hand on heart, Malta is probably super ashamed over the way they speak and will NEVER EVER send a song in the Maltese language.
If Ritmu had won last night I would have voted for it in May, I think it sounded exotic (BTW I’m not Maltese) whereas Out of Sight is instantly forgettable. We need more language diversity in ESC, it makes for a more interesting contest. Last year we had a song in Italian win, 5 years ago Portuguese. Language shouldn’t be a barrier to doing well.
Difference is that Italian is a big language that most people have heard. So they can send in native language. Most other European languages are really small however and basically only heard in the country of said language. Even Luxemburg back in the day sent songs in French.
Sweden: Are you challenging me?
Boring
This song is okay, but to me it just feels a bit too vanilla. Emma is great, her voice is strong, but this song does nothing for me. It kind of feels like track 11 on an album. To me, If it came on the radio, I’d probably change the station, and if nothing better was on, I’d come back to it. I think Malta may be the shock NQ this year.
why shock NQ?
Because the juries are in love with Malta the last few years, but this year I don’t think Malta can count on that. Btw, I loved Chameleon a few years ago, it was my #1, so I am not bashing Malta.. I just feel this year will be an NQ for them.
Top-5-Material: Italy
Left-side-of-scoreboard: Lithuania, Poland (Chris-Isaak-Remake), Spain, Norway, Czechia
Right-siders: Estonia, Ireland Croatia
20-26: Malta, Latvia, Slovenia, Moldova, North-Macedonia
NQ: Bulgaria, Israel, Albania
Very good prediction !
Malta and North Macedonia qualifying and Albania not ?
odd prediction. i cannot possibly see croatia qualifying this year and albania is far from a locked NQ this early in the season
There’s no way North Macedonia is qualifying, I’m sorry
Heard the song yesterday and I don’t even remember it…bad sign. If I could vote, I would have voted for Aidan. No votes for Emma, sorry. Very basic & generic song, good voice though.
I wanted to dance on ”ritmu” a beautiful bop on Maltese language.
Malta, what have you done? You did the wrong choice!
I’m going to file this one under the Adele effect. Female Piano ballad. We could be inundated this year.
I wanted Aidan to win to get Maltese in competition. This winning song is out of mind in a second.
Well done Emma! A wonderful song from Malta! One of the best so far! ????

3 seconds after listening I don’t remember the song at all. Just meh. Could be worse I guess.
You only listened 3 seconds
STOP PRETENDING TO BE ME
This is so boring that makes the Bulgarian song sound exciting
Boring
Absolutely forgettable…
Well, at least she’ll get claps from Italian crowd and she’ll go to the country that she knows. It really depends on how they execute the song in Eurovision, so far this is not bound to impress, it might reach the finals, but it will be forgotten among other entries, that said, good luck to her, maybe she’ll use her vocals and lyricism to make it slightly more memorable. I haven’t watched a full show so I can’t compare it to what alternatives there are, but definitely, it’s low-key, but I wouldn’t write it off completely.
Still better than the netta-replica.
I liked Out of Sight from the first, so I’m quite happy with the result. I would have been fine with Aidan as well. But poor Jessika, her song was cute and light-hearted. I kinda liked Electric Indigo, but it was so cringeworthy, sorry.
I am finding it very difficult to find anything nice at all about this song. It is just so forgettable.
Malta going for a more low-key entry this year after the controversy last year regarding how much public money they where spending inflating the odds and buying off you tubers and social media influencers.
The same will happen this year! However, this time Malta’s broadcaster won’t pay. Warner Music Italia will pay instead since Emma is signed to them.
A very decent song, rather old fashioned, but she nails it. Well done, Malta! Sure qualifier! PS: the thing with the girl is touching and shall give extra points
Another loss for Malta. Eurovision is all about stage presence and performances, sadly this lacks everything to be remembered.
People voted Emma Muscat because of her name and not the song itself. Enjoy NQ, Malta.
Her vocals are brilliant, but her song isn’t memorable at all. If this qualifies, it will only be for her singing abilities.
Every country except Slovenia made their best choice. Well done!
slovenia actually made their best choice you’ll see in may
Yeah, on contrary to lots of people, I actually like Slovenia’s entry. Maybe it’s a bit dated, but I enjoy it.
Slovenia made a good choice, but definitely not the best
More like all countries except Malta did their job right.
Really a reapeat of what they did 2017, when they let their one chance at trying in their own language fail, due to them probably still believing in the myth that Maltese will always give them last place.
The best singer won on the night but Malta won’t get through to the final in Turin. Very poor year Malta.
a definite non-qualifier. should have stuck to their Maltese song
What a shocker !!! Anyway i have my doubts about her chances !
I can’t say I’m disappointed despite the jury vote being quite fishy (I’m gutted for Aidan, hoping he tries again soon), Emma did deliver and owned the stage like a pro.
Now, I just hope Malta (or her team) gets her a better song or revamps Out of Sight at the very least.
I mean, her entry isn’t bad and she actually brought it to life at the stage, but her SF is full of ballads and songs in English, so it could get lost among the crowd if nothing’s done about it.
Don’t start with the “change the song” rubbish again. The Maltese people were robbed, literally, before by Ira Losco when she changed her song which was voted for by the Maltese public. Each vote cost’s money so yes it was robbery. So don’t start suggesting this rubbish again. Out of sight was paid for so that’s the song that should represent Malta.
It was never like that! Amber’s song was just revamped and never changed. Only Ira Losco’s song was changed
Thank you Robin for the feedback, I’m still new to the Eurovision bubble and I didn’t have most of the context you kindly mentioned 🙂
Anyways, I hope Emma the best, she’s a terrific singer uwu
Come on now, only half the songs have been chosen.
All the weak entries, like in every year will be weeded out in the semi-finals. the final itself can still be strong……just keep the faith !!
Aidan was robbed
I think it was the most logical pick. She is a great performer. But yeah the song need maybe some oomph to stand out more.
She has a good presence and voice but the song does nothing for me. I lose interest somewhere in the middle of it. She deserved a less mediocre entry. For now this is very borderline.
What a relief Aidan didn’t win. Running joke in Malta be copies all his songs from other people is embarrassing. The fact that people were rooting for someone who can’t sing live and has not an once of creativity where he lifts the song from other people I cannot understand. Well done Emma.
Aidan was so much better. bummer
I’m saddened to see Aidan not making it but I can’t be too mad. Emma really delivered vocally and basically carried what is otherwise a very safe pop song and made it sound like a Billboard gold hit.
With all respects paid – this year is looking extremely weak. Besides, i don’t know, perhaps Albania and Norway nothing stands out. Maybe I’d put Poland there as well.
Too soon to say this year is “weak”. Like every year, a lot of fans keep calling an ongoing Eurovision season so perhaps, we could just wait until May to know if it’s indeed a weak year?
Norway does stand out, but in a very cringe way
You guys say that every year
You guys say that every year
I don’t know. I can already forsee semi 2 will be filled with ballads and this is not among the strong ones. Don’t know if it’s the right choice.
Wow, now that’s a wack choice at it’s finest.
Thiiis tii-iime; I;ll… fiiind; a place i’d ra-ther be. You’ll no lonn-ger see me hiding aaahhh-waayyy; iiin the niiight…
[Yeah okay, you win.]
Can they give her a new song
Yes. They did for Ira Losco.
Surely that cannot be right. The song and artist was chosen, not just the singer. Of course the song can be modified but the essence of the song must remain. If not, then why don’t countries just pick an artist and announce the song much later ???
Totally agree with you Eurofan. Don’t steal the Maltese people’s money again like they did with Ira Losco.
